Casino Night at the Oasis

Last night I went to a Casino Night at a neighboring senior center. The price of admission included $100 worth of chips which you could use to gamble or exchange for tickets for a silent auction or gifts.

Having only played bingo and the slots (which weren't available) the three of us decided to try our luck at the crap table. What a ball! The first time I threw the dice, they ended up under the next table. There were a few other mishaps which I won't go into! With the help from the dealers, my friends and I ended with winning $200 between the three of us. Now, we're planning a trip to Las Vegas, hoping for beginner's luck!

AMERICA'S GOT TALENT

Although I've lived in SoCal most of my life, I don't venture into Los Angeles or Hollywood very often, but my neighbor sent in for tickets to America's Got Talent auditions last Wednesday and invited me to join her. Because of morning traffic, it took almost two hours to get into town, which on a light traffic day, would probably take an hour.

When we got to the Dolby Theater, we had to wait in line for over an hour and a rep came by and told us we were on standby! Our first thoughts were all that traffic, parking, and standing in line and we might not get in! Eventually we did and enjoyed the show very much. The streets were crowded with tourists and on spring break and it was a nightmare to navigate. We ended up eating in an Italian restaurant and had very good pizza and Italian beer.

In the pic, Howie has hair. Not so anymore!

My youngest grandson will be graduating from high school in June. Morgan has been involved in a sea cadets program for the past seven years and has always wanted to become a sailor. He automatically qualified for the Nuclear Engineering program having scored a 97 on his Navy Asvab entry exam. I couldn't be a prouder grandma.

My neighbor has several humming bird feeders and usually at dusk she has what appears to be hundreds of humming birds who flock to the feeders. Another neighbor has a lemon tree in bloom, and one night while sitting on her deck, we literally had to duck as they zoomed overhead. Are you an admirer of this beautiful little bird?

I've had the clock for over 40 years. It's a turn of the century German clock and keeps good time and it's one of my favorite things.

The bed is part of a mahogany bedroom set that was manufactured circa 1915. It had a high, wrap-around foot board which my threw out during a house move! I bought the set in an antique shop in Pasadena and was told that it came out of a large estate. What was interesting was that the set also came with a matching twin bed.

I painted the seascape a few years ago and I haven't felt the desire to pick up a brush since! Why? I haven't a clue!
