Despite have having firearm regulations in Canada, there is always the possibility of mass shootings. In Canada to own a firearm you must have a firearm licence. There are three classes of firearms and firearms licences, none-restricted, restricted and prohibited. A non-restricted licence (PA  is for possession and aquisition of a firearm and ammunition. A non-restricted fire arm is a single shot or semi-automatic long gun. Automatic firearms are prohibited in Canada.You have to have restricted licence to have a hand gun (RPA . The restricted licence alowes you the possession and quisition of single shot, semi-automatic long guns or hand guns and ammunition. There are also certain makes and models of firearms you can not possess.In order to get the PAL or RPAL licence, you must take a Canadian Firearms Safety Course for each class of firearm. A prohibited licence is given to qualified businesses and very rarely to individuals. You must submit a formal application along with the results of your Canadian Fire Arms Safety course, other supporting documents as well as a passport size current photo to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Background checks and investigations are done (the person applying for the licence must also have their spouse/ partner sign that they agree to the application). After a waiting period of minimum of 28 days up to two or three months the PAL or RPAL will arrive and is good for 5 years. If you want to transport your hand gun to a range or repair, etc, you must apply for a firearm transfer and an authorization to transport (ATT) for restricted firearms. There are also Provincial rules and regulations a firearm holder must follow. Ignorance of the law is no excuse.

Unfortunately, there are folks intent on harming others no matter the country they happen to live in.....They will find a way. Fortunately, weapons which can kill a large number of people in a single incident are not readily available in most countries. What a mess~~

Yes, there have been many Maggie, and the worst and most damned was the mass shooting at the Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal Quebec Dec 6 1989 when Marc Lepine shot 28 people killing 14 women, injuring 10 more women and 2 men. He then committed suicide and left a note that blamed feminists for ruining his life. A most sad day and one we should not forget.

No, you and Liszt missed the point.......Liszt says that if you take the Blacks and Hispanics out of the equation, the US has similar statistics as other nations. So what? Aren't Blacks and Hispanics American?.....Other countries could also remove racial groups from "The equation"........I don't see what the racial profile has to do with the high murder rates in the US........Your attempt to count only White Americans in some magical, imaginary equation makes no sense.....and Liszt's pointed defence that it isn't racist only points out that it is.
