The Naked King

Andersen's famous tale "The Emperor's New Clothes" was written many years ago. The story is about a king who parades around naked, believing he is wearing an invisible cloak. None of the king's subjects dare to say that he is moving around naked until a cries, "But he isn't wearing anything at all."

The poem posted below is a reworking of this famous tale by the Bengali poet Nirendranath Chakraborty. The original version of the poem is in Bengali.
The poem wonders where the is:

The concluding lines of the Bengali poem introduce a new political dimension to the story by seeking the . This shift is remarkable. It reflects the majority of our people's alliance with the ruling elite.

Everyone sees that the king is naked, yet
Everyone is clapping.
Everyone is shouting; shabash, shabash!
Some have prejudice, some have fear.
Some have mortgaged their intelligence to others.
Some are connoisseurs, some are
Mercy-seeker, deceiver.
One thinks that the royal robes appear very delicate, in the eyes
Even though nothing is there, still he has,
At least it's not impossible to have some.

Everyone knows the story.
But inside that story
Just a compliment
Cowardly, scheming or stupid.
There was no stubbornness.
There was also a .
A truthful, simple, courageous .

The king of stories has come down to the public road of reality.
Again, the applause is rising
Freezing
A crowd of stalkers.
But I can't see the
Anywhere in the crowd today

Where has the gone? has
Anyone stashed him anywhere,
In a secret mountain cave?
Or, has he fallen asleep
Playing with soil-grass-stone
At any distant silent river shore,
Or beneath the shadow of a tree.
Go, wherever he may be
Find him.
Let him come once in front of this naked king and
Stand fearlessly.
Let him come and raise his voice above this applause
And ask:
King, where are your clothes?

IT IS USUALLY THE YOUNG ONES WHO REBEL AGAINST TYRANTS. SOME AT THE COST OF THEIR LIFE. THERE ARE QUITE A FEW PLACES ON THIS PLANET THAT COULD USE A FEW HONEST KIDS JUST NOW.

I don't know any naked kings, but the reality is that young people don't understand cause and effect. ... They see something that troubles them, and want it changed, without an understanding of the origin of the troubling circumstance.

Baby Boomers are often reviled by today's youth, yet Baby Boomers were the commune-dwelling, flower-power, give-peace-a-chance youth of the 60s. ... What happened? ... Reality! ... Life experience taught that both success and failure are often the result of choices made, and that bad people will continue to misbehave until they are forced to change their ways.

Children could sure teach some adults a thing or two, that's for sure.

Archie, you said correctly that the young ones usually rebel against the tyrants. It has happened more than once in my country. This time, even the kids in school uniforms joined the uprising. A compiled list of casualties from the student-led mass movement between July 17 and August 5 has so far revealed over 17,000 cases of fatalities, according to a report published in The Daily Star. The death toll between July 17 and August 5 is believed to have reached 1,000. We are waiting for the final report from the committee formed by the interim government in this respect. Take care, dear friend. Stay safe always.

Yes, my friend Rocketship, you are right. The spirited youths with a sense of justice are amazing! I have seen them fight against injustices many times in my homeland too. This time it surpassed everything that I have seen so far. I hope you are well. Take care, my friend.

True, dear friend Maudie. I learn every day from my three granddaughters who live far away from me. It is always nice to hear from you. Take Care of yourself. Be safe.

I appreciate your comments on my blog. "The Naked King" is the English translation of the Bengali poem "Ulongo Raja" by Nirendranath Chakraborty. The poem is a reworking of the famous tale "The Emperor's New Clothes" and introduces a new political dimension by focusing on the child. It serves as a metaphor for today’s world, emphasizing the need for someone who speaks the truth unconditionally. I identify with the silent majority and am not from the “Baby Boomer” generation. While I agree with your views on the “Baby Boomer” generation, I also admire Generation Z for their ability to stand up against tyranny. They are akin to the child in the poem, bravely speaking the truth regardless of the circumstances. Let's not be like ignorant citizens who are unable to speak the truth. Instead, let's strive to be like the child in the poem, fearlessly speaking the truth under any circumstances. Take Care. Be safe.

That’s true in politics as well. Many can see that the Emperor has no clothes but are afraid to say so. They are sheep in a crowd of many. Often times it takes someone with courage, someone not easily swayed to stand up and point out that the Emperor is indeed, quite naked.
