" Fascists will always want to take by force what they did not achieve at the ballot box”

Tens of thousands of Bolsonaro supporters living in sponsored camps around the capital, Brasilia, since October and over 100 free buses paid for by Brazilian fascists to take insurrectionists from all over Brazil to storm the capitol building and the supreme court. Sound familiar?[/SIZE4]

The similarities between the two January insurrections are frightening; orchestrated by the right wing media and RWNJ social channels.

Witness this interview by a BBC reporter with Ricardo outside a Brazilian food store in London.

The 67-year-old, originally from Minas Gerais, blamed President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s supporters dressed in yellow and green for what's happened at Brasilia's federal buildings. This is despite evidence that those taking part in yesterday's riots were supporters of ex-President Jair Bolsonaro.

"Bolsonaro is very rude, but he is honest. Brazil made progress (under Bolsanaro) - {spoiler They didn't but Bolsonaro kept saying they did with no evidence to back up his claims}. Lula is ladron [a thief].

We are living under the myth that there is American exceptionalism. When it obvious America is not exceptional.

The sheer conglomeration of hypocrisy and deceit in the world is mind-boggling......and Religion is on top of the list......Religion trains children's minds to accept illogical/fantastical stories as not only truth, but righteous truth......My God......!!!!

At present all I see is the wheels of justice turning very slowly and hardly grinding anything at all.
Perhaps we will all be pleasantly surprised in due course but I will not hold my breath.

A mess which has been 40 years in the making. Let's hope it is much less than 40 years in the undoing but there is a lot of idiocy to unpick first.

There is no comfort in the affirmation that when the US sneezes somewhere else (in this case Brazil) catches a cold.

I recognised the handle straight away bright. Good to see you in blogs. I have been busy lately and in SFF much less frequently.

That is the most disturbing thing. The RWNJ media is now influencing ultra-nationalist groups in several parts of the world - Hungary and the Phillipines spring to mind immediately but many parts of Eastern Europe and even Scandinavia are not immune to their influence.

Whenever anyone is able to influence people to believe without proof and without doing even the minimum of independent thinking/research then you have a recipe for disaster.
This is true of all forms of propaganda, of which evangelical and fundamentalist religiosity are just prime examples.
