Show me the money

I surmise that we all did chores at home, like take out the trash, do dishes and things like that and received an allowance. But do you remember what your first paying job was?

I delivered news papers. What I liked about it....the money. What I did not like about it....It took me away from hanging out with the other , it was heavy (especially when the Calgary Stamped was on and the paper had the Stamped special section added to the paper), cold in the winter and had to be delivered during summer holidays. Other than that, I got money. Much to my chagrin I also learned the value of savings or putting away for a rainy day.

Inquiring minds want to know, what was your first paying job?

Thanks for all your input folks. Just shows that we learned work ethics at an early age.

My girls started babysitting at 12, later they had jobs at K-mart.
My son started flyers at age 10.

Laughing here. Kids are happy when they earn some money.

At 12 I baby sat with some kids around the corner. Seems like I made very little money but money I earned. I was proud of that.

When I was 13 the elerly lady across the street had had a heart attack and her son that lived with her hired me to sit with her during the day while he worked. Occasionally I would start their supper. I remember cooking tongue one time but when offered to eat some I declined.

Lordy, I just realized that elderly lady was 65.....arrrggghhh, I am 73 and I hope not elderly yet

I once read that elderly is someone 10 years older than you.

Our local Grocery store owner asked me to deliver groceries for him when I was ten years old. I told him I had never had a bike and hadn't learned to ride one. He brought out the delivery bike with the basket on front and told me to take it home with me and learn to ride. I did what he said and kept that job until I was nearly 15 years old.

Alfie...

Those were the days of trust Alfie. Today if the shop keeper were to give a ten year old a bike the kid would probably sell it.
