The Hunt for New Furniture and short people The time has come to purchase new living room furniture and it all comes down to two major anthropometrics measurements, Bum to Knee length and seated height. It seems that the majority of furniture is made for what the industry considers the average person 5ft 6in to 6ft 2in. In this height range the bum to knee length (seat area) is greater than 22in but less that 26.5 and the seated height is 33.5 to 38.8in. What I need is a seat area around 20in and back height of 32in. The back height is not as critical as the seat area. If the seat is to long, then my legs will bend over the front of the seat pulling the body forward and leaving a gap between the lower back and the seat back. Very uncomfortable. Add padding and I tend to slide out of the chair. Oh well, now it is off to the stores and a lot of sitting in furniture seats. As a bonus, it would be nice to find one that lets me sit comfortable AND let my feet touch the floor. |

It works the same for people larger than standard sized as well. My husband was 6'6". We used to go to the car show annually to "try on" the new models so w would know what to look for if we needed to replace a car quickly. As for furniture - definitely LazyBoy. They have a variety of sizes. We used to have his and hers recliners to accommodate our different size needs. . Spiritwoman ^i^
