Idle no more movement aimed at the wrong people. I am angry with myself that I have a limited knowledge of 1st Nation Treaty People as well as 1st Nation People who have no status. One thing I do know is that Treaties cover direct descendents of the original treaty signer's. I am angry that the 1st Nation Treaty People of Canada have to protest against poor housing, bad water, bad health, poor education and a myriad of other items that are common rights to all people. I am angry that it is not directed at the right people who are responsible for their plight. They blame the Government of Canada for all their problems instead of their own Band Chiefs and Counselors who are also to blame. These are the people who are responsible for how the Treaty Annuity Income is all allocated. How the acts, laws and regulations of a reservation are made and enforced. They object to Government interference on how they run their Reservations. Each Band receives millions of dollars in Treaty Annuities transfer payments every year. Not all Treaties have the same agreements with the Government. Some Chiefs and Counselors (not all) also receive a personal salary/wage. I am angry with one Chief in particular who receives a salary in the $300,000 range, lives in a comfortable home, while her tribe lives in squalid conditions. She is the problem for the Run down leaky homes with no heat, poor water, poverty, etc and blames only the Government of Canada for the problems. When asked to account for the use of the treaty money an account of where it all went could not be given. This is not how it should be. Could they have trained people how to repair the homes? I am angry that all the Chief's could not join themselves into a united body and come to an agreement with each other to work out their major problems before they attacked the Government of Canada How can they govern their people if they cant govern themselves. |

Dinty...you aren't the only one who is angry. I'm royally pizzed at the Canadian government that began, and has perpetuated this whole dang Treaty business in the first place. The First Nations people are a conquered people, but not by us...it was our forefathers who did it, and nothing happened to the people of today, it was their forefathers who were conquered by our forefathers. Today's First Nations people have not been conquered so why treat them so differently. We owe them NOTHING! It's time to end this whole Treat Annuity business and start treating the First Nations people like what they are.....CANADIANS!!! The rest of us do not get compensation from the government that we haven't earned, no do we have special rights and privileges that the First Nations feel entitled to. Perhaps if the treaties were a thing of the past along with the reservations and annuities etc., and all First Nations people were assimilated into today's society, they would be better off. They are not 'special'... they are not 'deprived'... but they are being segregated and it is a disgrace to all Canadians. They need to be living, working, and being educated within today's society. They should by all means retain their 'culture' - that is unique to their race, but not at the expense of the rest of the Canadian people. It's time to make the First Nations people CANADIANS first, last and always, and no better or worse than the rest of us!!!!!

Interesting insight about Native North Americans and tribal governance they use. Not sure what any national government can do tho, unless they ban their rights to their own governing systems. Sounds like you're right. I don't think the Canadian government. is to blame. GBU, Gavin GREETINGS EARTHLINGS! I COME IN PEACE! TAKE ME TO YOUR LEADER. Klatu, baraba nicto.
