Working Together

It's still poring down rain here. Much needed. I continue to stay hunkered down and working on a painting. This is a different one for me - painting reality from a photograph. Even though this means learning new techniques it is going far better than I thought. Will post it when I am done.

As I was working today I reflected on how the artists pallet with all of the colors is like life should be. To get the right effect each color needs many shades. This is achieved by mixing the dark and light tones or adding black or white or even another color. Each color and shades there of contribute to the complete painting. It would not work without each one doing their job and getting along with others. If only........

Then I reflected on what makes the difference. A higher power (in this case me and my paint brush) are telling them where and how to organize themselves. Although most of us believe in a higher power unlike paint on my pallet humans have free will.

Some of the crazy paintings I have seen in galleries in San Francisco, you should be able to get several hundred $$ for what you posted.

If painting were easy we would all be artists, you have to have a good sense of color, depth perception, spatial relation, blah blah. All of which I do not have. Like MsEducator I too am anxious to see your finished piece.

The actual shot of the palette looks very much like a colorful painting. It isn't all about HAVING free will, it is what those humans who have it, do with it.

It only takes a drop of ink to make a million people think. There are many stories.

I guess you could call the pallet a "pre painting"

Mixing colors the get the "just right" shade is something I enjoy, more than I should. I think it reverts back to the childhood freedom of getting your hands into gooey finger paint media.

That is very true. Maybe I'll try just tossing some paints at a canvas and see what I get. Actually it is fun just to do that in one area then crate a whole painting from it.

You'll love this. I have no depth perception. Apparently that is part of the neurological / perceptive deficits I was born with but never having it I learned to functions if I did. I managed to drive an 18 Wheeler without even thinking about it. It may have been even easier for me becasue I simply created lines in my brain about where I wanted the trailer to be and put it in the lines. With painting I also see it as lines and shades which create the illusion of depth.

Funny you put it that way - Sometimes I visualize myself as a paint Nazi as I am in control - sort of. Imagine how God must feel!!!!

I never take my blogs down so they are all there. Why, I don't know. Probably becasue that would be additional work. I figure if SFF needs them gone they will take care of it

No red tones in the photo of the scene other than a muted purple / pink shades of grey for the haze and occasional accent on clouds. It was post sunset so all of those colors are gone. Different for me as most of my work includes lots of reds, pinks, oranges and yellows.

that is what I love about art - you don't have to stay in any lines. Even if you choose to do so you create the lines. Powerful feeling.

I remember Toronto winters. I lived there in the late 60's early 70's. Came out here for a visit in 72 and only returned to Toronto to get my stuff. Too bad the weather is so harsh becasue other than that I loved Toronto and Canada.
