I guess the study of political geography is a constantly ongoing activity. I watched the opening ceremonies with friends, and we all commented on the same thing. I thought I was a person who keeps up with world affairs, but I missed hearing about the formation of a number of the newer countries. Couldn't even place some of them by continent, I'm sorry to say.

Now I don't feel so bad, karin! I thought same. I groaned when Canada walked into the stadium. What nincompoop designed their team uniform? Those baggy beige pants - reminded me of the plus sizes at WalMart.

Worse yet - they changed the names and often borders of those countries we did know. Guess as long as we can still figure out what country we are in, manage to communicate some how, and don't starve to death or end up in jail we're OK. Spiritwoman ^i^

Really amazing when you think of it. During the last 2 decades alone; when communism fell in the USSR about 15 new countries formed. Yugoslavia alone broke into 4 republics, two USA colonies became independent, several new countries in Africa etc. It's no wonder schools are pushing computer literacy. School text publishers can't keep up and not such a bad thing for those of us who help finance school expenses for grandkids.
