Photo Monday -people at work. This is my favourite char koey teow stall. It is located in Aulong, a small village in Taiping and is the best in all of Taiping now. The koey teow (flat noodles) is fried with prawns, bean sprout and Chinese chives in dark soya sauce. Egg (duck egg is preferred because when fried it tastes better than chicken egg) and cockles are optional. The skill of the cook is very important. Given the same ingredients, no two cooks can produce the same char koey teow. That is why when we take the koey teow run by two sisters who take turns to fry, we always hope that it is the older sister who fry our koey teow because hers is slightly better. Then there was this stall that we used to frequent about 30 years ago run by a chap by the name of Ah Kow. His char koey teow can be either excellent or lousy depending on his mood! Great picture. Is that an American Tourist in sloppy attire. (of course they call it "casual". By the way, I am an American and do not like how sloppy my fellow countrymen have become. Thanks Lee for sharing. Lu Hi Lulu, No, he is local. We hardly see any Americans in Taiping much less Aulong. Yes, we dress casually here on unofficial occasions like having breakfast and it's because of the heat and humidity. In the big cities like Kuala Lumpur, there are a few who even coat and tie. I have never tried that dish Lee. I do enjoy oriental cooking. It sounds really good, though. Your photograph is very nice and lets us see a part of the world that we would not normally encounter. Thank you mitee. I don't think Photo Monday is a competition. It is more of photo sharing (and a bit of our lives too). That is what makes it interesting. Ha, ha MsEd, Char koey teow is only fried noodles but it us very popular here. Do you know that apart from many towns fighting over who has the best char koey teow, Malaysia and Singapore are both claiming to have invented it. I am sure you can find char koey teow in a Malaysia it Singaporean restaurant BUT it will not taste as good.  Lee Live today as if it is your last For tomorrow will soon be in the past

Yes, Sl, This scene is familiar in all the towns, small and big, in South East Asia. Life has improved a lot for all of us with giant malls and tall buildings springing up all over but this aspect of it should be maintained to remind us of the past and our struggles. Great Photo. Reminds me of the food vendors in Mexico. All of the colonias (neighborhoods) have several. Often various vendors come and set up temporary places on a day to day basis. Kind of fun becasue other than the regulars you never know what you might find. Spiritwoman ^i^

Hi Mary Ann, Is there a dragon motif on the jar? Those jars are rare now even over here and are sought after as decoration. Pickled duck eggs are still common though are liked for their yolk which is more oily and tasty. Lee Live today as if it is your last For tomorrow will soon be in the past
