The Joy of Masks and Covid-19

The only thing more satisfactory than burning the bra in the 1970's was setting fire to the mask in 2021. I loathed those obnoxious masks. I quickly learned how dependent I am on lip reading when folks tried to talk to me while wearing those things. So I stayed home most of the time. Our Quaker Meetings and the 12 Step Meetings were done on zOOm. Amazon delivery became my best friend. My yearly employment at the West Virginia State Fair didn't happenn nor did my October adventures at the Haunted Farm. I eventually got so bored that I started managing the local GOP headquarters. Anyone who knows me knows that I am not the most conservative among the conservative. Many of them of genuinely nice people. I prefer to stay neutral and focus on the issues.

Most of the GOP's were anti-vaccine. I had to be ambulanced to Charleston in 2021 for emergency surgery and had to wear that dumb mask. After leaving the hospital, I opted to get the two required vaccines along with a third booster when I went to Atlanta. Eventually the restrictions were loosened up and the masks became ancient history.

Earlier this month, I went to a Friends General Conference event at Haverford College in Pennsylvania. Covid Testing and an updated vaccine was required. My doctor asked why and I told her, "Well, they are Quakers!" Actually getting an updated covid-19 vaccine is not a bad plan. I live in a senior apartment building among a vulnerable population. I have to confess that I didn't wear the mask that was suggest when travelling on the train to Philadelphia. I didn't wear it at the hostel or the dorm or the workshops. We were tested before going into the conference. I was tested again when there was a positive test. Masks were required at the Plenaries events but I didn't go because I was too busy at Golf Cart Central making sure other people to them.

Hence, I have a package full of masks that have never been used. I did manage to give a few of them away.

I might end up burning those masks that I didn't use.

Unfortunately Covid is still 'alive and spreading'~~ Wise to keep up with the vaccinations!!

I bought some nice-looking masks and I still have them.

In my opinion, Covid probably will become a seasonal virus like the flu, and will never go away.

Those who believe in science will take the vaccine, and those who believe in conspiracies will refuse it. To each their own.

I agree with the masking point you make. I hated them but I wore them as required. I was never more happy than when they went away. I keep up to date on my Covid boosters only because the one time I did have it, it was so bad I never want to experience it again.

IT SOUNDS LIKE THE COVID SITUATION IS WORSE OVER THERE THAN HERE. I HAD VERY SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE VACCINE AND WILL REFUSE WHATEVER NEW ONE THEY INVENT AS LONG AS THEY USE CERTAIN INGREDIENTS. YOU ONLY NEED A MASK IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE THE DISEASE AND I HAVE HEARD OF NO TEST OR VACCINE REQUIREMENTS ANYWHERE.

My co-workers husband manages a nursing home that is quarantined right now due to Covid. We have been telling her anything from make him sleep in the barn to pressure wash him with lysol before kissing him. Covid I'd here to stay, just no longer a popular headline. We do not have a single Covid positive person, but we diligently test anyone with a sniffle.0

If it's not your house, you don't have a constitutional right to go in .................... I like the old stuff " no shirt no shoes no service".
