I've Been Hacked!

Yesterday morning my called to tell me that he had received an email from me stating that I was stranded in Cyprus and had had my money and credit cards stolen and needed immediately to have him call me and arrange to send me $2500! Apparently, he wasn't the only one to receive this message but everyone on my contact list!

When I went into my email account, everything but incoming emails was in Arabic! I tried to reset the language to English without success. I typed, "How to reset Arabic to English" into "Bing" and was surprised at the number of people who had this happen to them. Several gave explicit instructions on how to reset the language and finally I was able to get back to English.

My advice to everyone would be to make a copy of your contact list, as the culprit somehow transferred my complete list and left me with zilch!

aka, some seniors are getting telephone calls saying their grand children are in jail somewhere an they need to send $2,500 for bail. You are lucky yours is just an e-mail because some of the seniors wired the money. It seems the info. about grand children and family members are obtained from things you post on Twitter, Facebook, and other sites where people post proud photographs and facts about their family. It used to be that proud grand parents posted photos and info. on bulletin boards at restaurants, now with our technology it's accessible world wide. It's a whole lucrative industry. Most people are irrational about their grands and never even question their plea for help. That's why the scammers seem to find this an easy ploy.

Bob - I use but for some reason SFF objected when I referred to it in my original blog!
Karin - I have Norton Internet Security but I don't think they could have intercepted the email.
Knxlady - I immediately changed my email and also my bank passwords
ET - Such a mess!
Coney - Thank you for the money! I've spent it on a trip back to Cyprus!
