My Neighbor Harry's Nightmare Harry is 87 and his wife is 81. They have been married over 30 years. His wife had a by a previous marriage who was 60 years old. Harry wasn't particularly fond of him and apparently had good reason. The suffered a fatal heart attack last month. Harry and his wife traveled to Idaho were the was operating a hotel to attend to the funeral arrangements. Shortly after their return, Harry learned that his wife, without his knowledge, took out two credit cards and added her to the accounts. She also opened a P.O. box in her name, where the statements were send without Harry's knowledge. To date, Harry has received statements which indicate that the had charged $40,000 on the cards. Now, my question is, since the did not have funds to cover these charges, is Harry responsible for payment, and how does he maintain a loving relationship with a wife who went behind his back? |

Hi Tom, though it's probably a solution, I don't think that he would divorce her! Hi Coney, no surprise... he's very upset and has taken her name off of all their joint accounts and also the deed to their home! She's so upset that she broke out in shingles! He's so mad at her son for using her that he cannot share in her grief. It's so sad!

Harry is stuck!!! Sorry to say. The only way he is going to get out of those debts is to perhaps get a lawyer that handles both bankruptcy and divorce. Idaho is a 50/50 state. He really need legal counsel for this. Is very sad, because money is the cause of many divorces in one way or another.

California is a community property state and I really don't think he achieved anything by having her sign off on the house but I'd probably made him feel better!
