Yep, they sure are..... although the ones my gramma, mom, and I had years ago were all metal with no grips to them.
Isn't is amazing how we often think about folks we know online, even though we have never met in person, when we are just going through our day?
Bacon, you say? MMMMmmmm, I love bacon..... but I hate frying it. That's why I love to eat breakfast out at a buffet.

mrsdinty has three pairs that look like that but are all metal with a metal ring that slides up and down the handle. If you remember glass Evenflo baby bottles she also has a pair of those tongs that you used to take the bottles out of the boiling water.

I have a pair that belonged to the Grateful Dead's chef. I was never a Dead-Head, but I met their former chef, who owned a huge tour-bus that was fitted out like a 4-star kitchen. When I met him he was working on a Chautauqua Tour and I was managing the property where they camped.....that was almost 30 years ago and I still use it. The performers were some of the most interesting characters I have ever met. They included the Brothers Karamazov and a guy who was a leading Physicist who spent his summers blowing complex soap bubbles, including square ones......he explained it to me once, something about the intersection of a cluster.....It's the closest I ever came to running away with the circus............

The night before they pulled out, we had a campfire on the bluffs looking out on a calm Pacific, with live music and dancing children, and the chef cooked dinner on the campfire including fresh oysters from the beach below...........The next morning when I showed up for work, they were already gone.....All the trailers and trucks and the huge portable stage.....nothing left but a trampled meadow, the ghost-voices of children and parents practising their lines, shouting them across the meadow while they picked wild-flowers for the show.......and the kitchen tongs sitting on one of the big flat rocks that surround the campfire.

How come I don't have anything like that? I use a wooden spatula for bacon, have to with the teflon pan.

ET, you never know when I will still be up.... heck, I never know! But I usually check on eBay and take a quick walk through the blogs and face book before shutting down the computer before I go to bed. Occasionally that might be around 10, but often as late as 1 or 2 in the morning.
I like your idea of frying up the bacon and then freezing it, just have the mess once.

I have some of those tongs for removing baby bottles from the boiling water. In fact, those are the only kind I have now.

I use a fork when cooking bacon. Prongs look more practical

I had a pair of prongs that are used for barbecuing. They were too big. I bought a new set and they are silicone. It takes getting used to them. I watch them on cooking shows using these prongs and they make it looks so easy. Earthy I am like you when it comes to bacon. On Shrove Tuesday I bought 250 grams or whatever it was and used half of it to have with my potato pancakes. A week or so later I cooked the rest of the bacon and added it to a corn/potato chowder that I made.
