Nothing to Wine About

At least not yet, but this rescued grapevine is showing off this year.

We were short on great posts today, so you can settle for a grape post.

We raised grapes many years ago, but we didn't make wine. I was lucky to get a big enough crop to make jelly because the kids would eat then as fast as they ripened. Ahhhh, those were the good old days.
My neighbor does make wine, of various kinds. He also raises bees. Joe and I used honey, but for some reason, I didn't care for the neighbor's. It was probably the best for us though, because it was definitely local honey! It has a lighter color and flavor, so when they give me some, I pass it on to my kids.

We have a grape arbor out back and it looks now like it will produce well BUT we have a lot of birds and they attack them so we try to keep an eye on them.

Lol. I doubt I will make wine, buy it yes. The juice box gang is growing, so grapes will go as fast as they ripen.

Once upon a time long ago at age 9, a friend and I decided to become wine makers. LOL

We bought some grape juice----- placed it in a large crock--- added some yeast and hid it in an old barn.

We watched it for several days. A green mold formed over the top.----- We decided that was good fermentation necessary to become wine. LOL

Several days later we decided the wine must be ready and we would become wine tasters of our product. LOL

We strained the mold off by pouring our wine through a cloth----- filled two glasses and prepared to enjoy! -------- But FIRST we had to light up some dried wild grapevine that we heard was great to smoke.!

Our experiment was a total failure. ------- burnt tongue and lips.------ Our wine tasted so horrible it is indescribable. LOL

End of story. LOL

But I still have a picture of the old barn------ Our wine making hideout!!!
