Those were the days , my friend....Oh yes, those were the days.

Some memorabilia from SFF bashes in Florida, many years ago....

We made many friends at those events...many have left the earth, but not our memories.

I was surprised when I saw this on FB. I was not aware you guys have been getting together all these years. I wish there was a section or group on this site where events could be announced. I am glad you posted here.

Definitely those were the days! When Joe and I met in SFF during 2004, it was already going strong with full chat rooms at all hours of the day or night, and friends meeting friends at small meet and greets, and the annual Florida bash and later the annual bash in Nashville. They were at different times, so there was a big bash every 6 months, and other smaller ones scattered all over the USA. I even remember when several members went to Australia to meet up with friends there.
It was a wonderful site back then.... yes, it had some quarrels and drawbacks, but overall, it was a blessing to several of us who met our mates, and to everyone who wanted to meet friends, both online and in person if possible.
Joe and I were also part of a couple other smaller groups on MSN that had their own private chat rooms and annual get togethers, so we met hundreds of folks throughout the years, and many of them became friends.
I still keep in touch with many of them on the "other" site, so I am grateful for that.

Back before computers was CB's. My handle was Starlight. They all have called me Star back in the 70's. And Candy was a nickname from childhood and up
We used to have "coffee breaks" and how we met

Koffla, these bashes and meet and greets were not sanctioned by SFF and they wanted nothing to do with them or their announcements. In fact, I was banned for making an announcement of one of them in Biloxi. When I called and talked to them, I was told that such events are not sanctioned by SFF and in fact, no mention of meeting or prices of anything could be put in the blogs or the chatrooms. Then, I was told I could not have my name back, but I could make a new profile with a slight variation of my name and they would approve it. (We know now, don't we, that they are not nearly as strict with accounts? )
The get togethers were organized by individuals who put in a lot of time and some of their own money to do it. People traveled from all over the world to meet with other SFF folks.
