Last week

Last week I danced. Doesn't sound like anything out of the ordinary for a dance teacher, right? It's true .. as an instructor I dance almost every day but this was different.

When it comes to social dancing there are many ways to enjoy it and in my thirty plus years in the industry it has always been a pleasure to get out there on the dance floor regardless of the type of music or the skill of my dance partner. But if I may digress and take a quick walk down memory lane, my favorite experiences happened about twenty years ago when I studied and practiced regularly with the same partner. I looked forward to each and every session. I loved the feeling of accomplishment and can't deny that the positive feedback on our dancing was a motivating factor. When he moved away it felt as if my whole world collapsed and in the twenty years since, I haven't found a way to be at peace with the void. Yes, I dance almost every day. No, there has never been any comparison to the level, precision, and exhilaration of those days long ago.

Until last week. It was an average sort of day, running a monthly dance party. A new guest walked in, greeted me, and then worked his way around the floor dancing with various partners. I was impressed as I looked on. He seemed quite accomplished. Then he took me up on my offer to “save me a dance” and I felt as if I had just stepped into a time capsule. I relived the precision, joy, partnership, and level of challenge that I felt so many years ago.

The dance party ended and I knew this feeling of exhilaration would be short lived. Living in a vacation destination you get used to the idea of people entering and exiting your life in two-week blocks of time. This would be no different.

But at least I can be happy that ….

Last week I danced.

A day without dance is .... just kidding. I have no idea!

This is what happens when you extract a still image from a video and then crop the heck out of it! Yeah, that's me ballgown and all dancing in a showcase a very long time ago!

It is a great feeling and more enjoyable to dance with someone who you have great chemistry. Years ago, I tried to extract still images from my GoPro action camera, but was never happy with the quality of the images. So now I spend the time setting up the camera for stills, then switch to video. .

WHAT A LOVELY EXPERIENCE. I SINCERELY HOPE IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN SOON. I NEVER ENJOYED SOCIAL DANCING BUT DID ENJOY SOME EAST-EUROPEAN FOLK DANCING EONS AGO.

What a wonderful, sweet time that must have been.
Your post brought back memories of a time in my childhood when the 5th-8th grades had a monthly dance sponsored by some of the parents who wanted us to have something special. One of my classmate's girlfriend did not like to dance fast songs, so he always asked me and he was a great dancer (for our age) who studied and new a lot of moves. He would teach me and we danced very well together. His girlfriend claimed all the slow songs, but I was never without a partner because in our small school, we knew everyone, so there was no shyness of being among strangers.

Lovely post, Pearls. Too bad it was such a short lived experience, but oh so good while it lasted. Well you never know what's around the next corner.

That's a smart idea to take the still shots and then switch to video!

Thanks Rocket! I even tried a type of dance with him that I hadn't danced in 20 years. He's a great leader!

It sounds so nice to be part of a small school where classmates were friendly! Those dances must have been really fun!

Thanks Maudie. A longer term partnership of that level would be ideal. Like you said, you never know!

I was single for 8 years and sworn to remain that way.
I became acquainted with members of a dance group that met 3 times per week.
One night the prettiest lady and best dancer in the group asked me to dance.
She would not let go of my arm, so we danced to every tune until they turned out the lights. LOL
Then we danced to my truck radio on the parking lot (practicing the 3 step ). LOL
Silly people were honking their horns as they left. LOL

I completely forgot about swearing to remain single. She is now my better half.
Party On!

Dancing with the right partner is the ultimate experience.

That is such a nice story! It is wonderful to hear stories about dancefloor romance!

By watching our shadows while dancing on the parking lot made it easy to know when perfectly in sync together and with the music.

I had a juke box in one of my offices with mirrors around the walls at floor level. LOL
Looking at movement from waist down in mirrors made for perfect sync to the music.

Is it true ?????
Many ladies told me that most guys have TWO left feet? LOL

So many people worry about having two left feet. Often, though, once they're shown how to dance they gain some confidence and the "two left feet" worry goes away.
