Welcome to Week 24: Tour of Cape Cod – X Week! Featuring: X-Shaped Fronds, Xenagogy, Xmas, Xenodocheionology, XOXO X-SHAPED FRONDS On “S-week” when I was on my way to photograph Saint's Landing I was thinking ahead to the remaining weeks of this photography project and wondering how I'd ever find subjects for the upcoming less commonly used letters. I arrived at the landing and on my way from the parking lot to the beach this formation of fronds caught my eye. So pretty against the glow of the sunrise, and so unexpected! XENAGOGY The term “xenagogy” may be rare but the guidebooks it describes are everywhere on Cape! Want a local's opinion of the guidebooks? I think they're a great convenience but not a total substitute for the visitors' own research. If you were to rely solely on the guidebook, you'd find great restaurants, bars, shopping, excursions, and accommodations, but you'd miss many places such as the peaceful, scenic town landings and the “mom and pop” businesses that don't advertise in the guidebook. XMAS I know it's early, but my cat and I would like to wish everyone who celebrates a very merry Xmas 2021. This is his 2020 Xmas portrait. XENODOCHEIONOLOGY According to Merriam-Webster it's “the lore of hotels and inns”. This book covers that and more including ill-fated sea voyages, legendary miscreants, and even the disappearance of Billingsgate Island. XOXO I made three separate trips to the beach to capture this image! Funny story … My first attempt was ok but I thought I could do better. On my second attempt the tide kept washing away the letters before I could snap the photo. I wondered why. Then it dawned on me that it mattered greatly whether the tide was coming in or going out! The third time was a charm: “Hugs and kisses from Pearls”. (Yes, that messy writing under the X's and O's is my handle, “Pearls”. Writing in the sand is harder than you'd imagine!) Hmmm .. the photo of my cat disappeared from my post! I just edited the post to add it back in and with any luck the cat will not run away again. lol A day without dance is .... just kidding. I have no idea!
