I would describe myself as fitting that John Lennon phrase: Life is what happens while you are making other plans. Since things havent turned out the way I imagined they would when I was 20, Ive had to make some interesting choices late in the game, and I view life as an on-going adventure in which one does the best one can with the resources available.
I am a teacher by training, but am not currently teaching. I am working in a local retail/service center in Sitka. I am originally from the Boston area, and moved to Alaska about 10 years ago. Now that I have traveled extensively while working as a Purser on cruise ships, I know that I like Alaska so much that I wouldnt want to live anywhere else.
I take lifes responsibilities and my work seriously, and I think I have finally learned not to take myself too seriously! I think its important to keep a healthy perspective, so I enjoy a good laugh, whether from a joke or from lifes little ironies or from a good movie. When Im not working, I enjoy long walks, long talks, all kinds of dancing, arts & crafts projects (especially pottery), reading, baking, and music. I love houseplants and flowers, which are nice to look at, but they arent as good at keeping up their end of a conversation as I might like them to be.
My Ideal Person
I hope to find that special man to share my full and rewarding life with. Not someone perfect, because I am far from perfect myself, but a best friend, a lover, a partner someone who understands that a genuinely caring relationship based on trust, respect and communication takes a lot of work to be successful. A man who shares my belief that learning is a lifelong adventure, and who appreciates a good laugh! If you also think that kindness and the ability to have a reasonable disagreement are at least as important as good coffee and cuddling, that is a plus. Well, OK, maybe I am looking for perfection after all!
