well I am happy with the results of my hard work...

My Tomatoes are great.. these heirloom one's are great tasting and very big. the smallest of which is well over the 1 pound. I selected Three varieties that are great.. A big White, A Big German Green, and A Brandywine Red.
They have performed extremely well.

I have a couple of other Types that are looking to be great ones as well..

The problem is that I am picking about 5 pounds of tomatoes' a day at the moment and well I can only eat so many..

I might have to see if I can make some pickles or something. And this would be a great challenge as I am not the best cook.

Well it has started to rain here which is great news for me..

I have been busy for the last couple of months getting ready my veggie garden...

in the past I have had a little one, but now have let it grow to a reasonable size. about 25m by 8m with a shade cover to keep the hot summer sun at bay

I am trying to grow them organically if I can and have found some good old varieties of vegies that I used to have when I was younger

food these days dose not seem to be like it was when I was a . tomatoes seem to be tasteless and of a small size.. I wonder what happened to the good old varieties that weighed a couple of pounds or more.

why oh why do the big companies control so much of the food production in the world.

we only get hat they say we can have.. thank goodness for those people who dedicate themselves to keeping our food biodiversity going and keeping our old heirloom foods alive and strong.

well Xmas has come and gone, and so has the New Year

and yet i still dont seem to be getting anywhere. It is like as if everytime you start to get ahead, you find out that you are right back where you started.

We Have been having a bit of hot weather and it has taken its toll, a couple of bush fires got close but no damage to us.. thank goodness.

the last couple of years we have been luck here with the fire seasons. but we have always done our hazard reductions to make sure.

The lucky buggers on the coast not far from here have been getting rain. and yet we go with out... Isn't mother nature a wonder.

it is amazing in our country that we can have floods one place, bush fires in another, heat and cold. and all other types of weather.

well at least there is a cool change on its way. and hopfully some rain.

Christmas

Well Christmas is nearly here again, and it nearly is another year.

How time dose fly. it only seems to be a few weeks ago that it was 2011 and now we are at the end of 2012.

I have noticed over the years that it is getting more complicated to enjoy christmas as the things that the younger ones want are getting more complicated. I remember getting a fishing rod and some gear for christmas when i was a , and yet i was happy and contented.
But now you cant have fun without an I-thing (iphone, ipad, i something) or some type of computer game so you dont have to go outside and enjoy the fresh air and sun. Then the games are all just shoot and murder everyone. My freinds boys have one that all it is shoot everyone, steal cars and run from the cops and then get rewared for getting away, what are we teaching these
And we wonder why our next generation is slightly confused and a little had to teach morals to. as they think it is ok to behave like this.

any way enought about my thoughts
i would like to wish everyone well and a great christmas.
and thankyou for all the nice coments i have received.
untill next time

RAIN & WEEDS

well the weather here has taken a turn for the best a little rain has fell.

the grass is greening up for the cows and the garden is comming to life. Including those dam weeds.

Is there any way to get on top of the weeds other than digging, they seem to grow quicker than the rest of my garden.

Why is it that you can grow your own food and it seems to taste better than anything you can buy in the shops. Tomatoes these days are like tastless and hard with no substance. Yet the old tomatoes that my family have growen for years are full of flavour and and grow big enough to at least cover a sandwich.

I think that as a people we have done may things to stuff things up. Like our food, i was reading an article the other day and it was saying that the modern breeds of fruit and vegies have not got the nutrition, and in some cases they have nothing of value left. Yet the older varities that were grown fithy years ago, in some cases have three times the nutrition of the newer varities.

Aint progress grand, we have now buggered up our food source to the extent that it dose nothing for us. and with genetic enginering we have Tomatoes with the Genetic material of a Fish. Yes thats right a FISH, and yet we have been having these food thrust upon us for years.

I beleive that there sould be more groups that look after our Heritage foods and keep the old styles going for future generations. And besides they actually taste better.

All the best till next time. BYE.

been thinking about doing one of these blogs for a while now and yet never seem to get the up and go to do it

here on the farm has been a little hectic of late due to the dry weather, we at the stage where i have to water the animals everyday as they are drinking so much, and trying to to keep the garden going is fun as well.

but we all must not give it up as life must go on.
