About a month ago my nephew got married, you might remember the blog I wrote about that occasion, all those super smart kids with no common sense...well here is gold nugget for you...two of the Dr.-Dr. decided they wanted to get married too, but this wedding was going to be up north in Mendocino (for you non CA'ns, this is just a couple of miles from the Oregon border) so that is about a 1000 miles from SD...I was smart enough not to accept the invite, but my girlfriend, her husband my nephew and his new wife went...They thought it was by the coast but it was 150 miles inland and just as far from the airport, so they rented a car, as they were on their way they called the soon to be married couple if there was something they wanted for them to pick up since they were close to Costco, oh yes, ...would they get breakfast and lunch for 60!!!
Well, they were pretty perplexed, (me, I would have turned around) but being the good people they are they went shopping...They finally arrived at the destinations, it was an old boyscout camp, with some few cabins, and about 20 pitched tents, my girlfriend who is my age was not amused...So they start taking the groceries out of the car "where is the refrigerator?" "Oh, we don't have electricity" I think this is what we used to call a "Hippie-Dippy" wedding, Now here comes the call..."Auntie, do you have a recipe or do you know a way to make scrambled eggs for 60 how much milk do we add, does it matter that it has turned sour???" And here I though my nephew was odd...We had dinner last evening, they are all still recuperating, I could see the smoke coming out of my girlfriend ears...and I...I am still laughing

WELCOME TO MY TABLE

The 4th July, I did not go to see the fire works, I spend the day with my girlfriends, unless you live right by the beach, you can get stuck in traffic for 3-4 hours... I had brunch with my friends Tim and Elliott on Sunday, we were done with the red, white and blue and went with the colors of the south of France....Since I am a caterer I like not only for my food to look and taste good, but for my table to be pretty with fresh flowers and lovely colors...Our special drink (wine glasses) was Absolut Grapefruit Vodka, Campari, pink grape fruit juice and topped with Drambuie....Holy Mother of God, two of those and you are singing...I was singing ...We had smoked salmon omelet, spanish potatoes, small pancakes, and fresh fruit...and another drink....We forgot to drink the coffee.. I shared with them all the adventures I have had with my SFF friends....Hope you all had a great weekend too....

FUNERALS

This girlfriend of mine (more an acquaintance) goes to more funerals that I can count...I told her last week, to know her is to die (I know, not nice, and obviously it didn't go down to well) Anyhow, her mother is in a living facility with 250 other elderly people, all in their late eighties and nineties, so of course the turn-over is fairly often....Somehow my friend feels compelled to attend all the funerals even if hasn't known or meet the person in question briefly...I find this rather strange..It's not for the food (she is as skinny as a rail) she feels that she is comforting the family and representing the retirement home, she does not work or have any affiliation with it...I got down the grapevine that the help at the facility are taking bets if she will show up at the next funeral, usually it's a good bet.... Last night my friend called me and complained that she doesn't sleep very well....Hummmmm I wonder why????

He was sitting by my front door, as I came home a little late a couple of days ago, looking very fine and healthy, was he waiting for me??? I always admired his sleek black and white coat, at this point I had a full view of it's splendor... Pepe Le Pew, stared right into my eyes, ups, I knew I was in trouble, slowly I started stepping backwards, speaking sweet nothings in Danish to him, most properly it was the language he didn't like, the tail lifted and he was moving around, in a moment he was going to take aim, Holy Mother of God, you have never seen anybody move so fast....I keep an eye on him from around the corner, he was in no hurry.... Finally he made his way into the bushes....called the exterminator guy this morning, he can't come until the middle of next week...This evening Pepe left some of his malodorous scent, just to remind me who is the boss....

We meet yesterday in Laguna, I had so much looked forward meeting my fellow SFF, we had blast, Flirty, Tennisbud, Jimimycricket, yours truly and our very generous host, 50Tall... I arrived first (did not want to miss out of any fun) 50 was waiting at the entrance, for you that have not meet him, let me tell you, he cuts quite a picture, tall, handsome, impeccable dressed and so very nice....Soon after TennisBud joined in, he came from playing a couple of sets of tennis, and told us that he had changed his tee shirt so he wouldn't smell (we thank you )then Flirty and Jimeny , maybe it was the other way around, but by that time I had had a couple of Bloody Mary's, so I was feeling no pain...we went to the restaurant to have brunch, 50Tall had a table reserved for us, the view is just amazing, the food wonderful, the conversation and the laughter was flowing...As you can see from the pics Flirty is a wild woman (all in good fun)....We all thank you 50, first for giving us a place to meet, to be so generous to host, pay and entertain this bunch of old folks (just speaking for myself )

AN AFTERNOON WITH EDITH HEAD

Last Sunday I had an enjoyable afternoon at the Coronado Library, Susan Claassen had a Conversation with Edith Head, it was a Q&A performance setting us back to 1981...Let me tell you a little about Edith, we will all nod in recognition: Edith Head was undoubtedly Hollywood's most famous costume designer, or "magician" as she liked to call herself. Her career spanned 58 years of movie making. In those years she dressed almost every major star who shone in the industry and, with her straight-cut bangs, dark glasses and tailored suits as her trademark, became more famous than most of them. Edith Head died in 1981 of a progressive and rare blood disease, two weeks after completing work on her last film, "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" She left her state to Motion Picture and charitable organizations aiding Native American children. she had a close working relationship with Alfred Hitchcock, I still remember Grace Kelly in that wonderful blue dress in "To Catch a Thief" and "The Rear Window"...I believe she dressed stars in more than 1000 movies...Pretty amazing woman!!!!

Actually this is not about marriage, but fund raising...I cater for both the arts and music industry here in SD, among other things, so very seldom do I have the opportunity to be a guest. Yesterday I had such an opportunity for PAWS, it's a two party event, I always cater the first part, and go to the second one.. this is an event that raises money for people with low income that can't afford to take their pets to a Vet. or to feed them properly...It's a hoot, guests bring their animals to this second event, cats, dogs, birds, they have a best dress dog (not one of my favorites, and for what I observed, not one of the dogs either) great bands and good food (not as good as mine )...I thought I would share this pic. the little fellow stayed on the bike for long periods...Have a good laugh..
