I challenge anyone who claims to be an American Jul 4, 2006 2:01 am

to check out our administrations plan to merge us with Mexico and Canada. If you like being an American and would like to preserve our country for our children, please pay attention to the direction our country is headed. Google 'international super highway' and NASCO. Look at the pretty map. Check out the board members. Read about their plans to make us more competitive (that translates as OUR wages must become low like Mexico's and Chinas to compete). Rest assured that congress and these fat cats will keep their high salaries tho.

Remember when the superior court ruled a while back to allow our homes to be taken for development by private enterprise? It didn't make sense at the time, did it? Now, do you see why they did it?

Did you know there is a Mexican flag flying with the American flag at the fair in San Diego, Ca?
Did you know that illegal aliens can get false social security numbers and drivers licenses and with these false documents they can register to VOTE! In OUR elections?

If you did not know this before, you know it now. If you do not stop and research these things, please don't call yourself an American. Call yourself something else. Americans are a dying breed. Our parents and forefathers would NEVER let America go into the toilet for corporate profit.

If you are an American, you MUST call your congressmen and the president and tell them to enforce the laws we have on illegal immigration and to stop the super highway and the selling out of the average American.

And have a happy 4th of July, and many more after this one.

Thank you for letting me rant. I'm crying because we had such a good counrty for the average man. That's why everyone wanted to come here. But we are becoming like a 3rd world. If you don't live in California, you may not know what is happening here. But you better stop it before YOUR state is overrun with law breaking people.

What is our destiny? Jun 26, 2006 11:07 am

I know, everyone is too busy. But all Americans should look at the North American Security and Prosperity Partnership. It is sugar-coated on the government websites. But it translates into, no borders with Mexico and Canada, the outsourcing of our jobs, the competitive part they write about translates into lower wages for the American worker. The security they mention is b.s. Prosperity will be for the wealthy. Our average American citizen will become like Mexico's average citizen, and we will not be part of the exclusive partnership mentioned, we are the masses that will be exploited.

Thank Mr Bush for doing what many of our enemies wanted to do.

If you are not familiar with this No. America Super Corridor, please look it up and give us your opinion.
Great idea it will move cheap goods from Asia
NO! Mexicans will drive THEIR trucks instead of our teamsters
NO! Mexicos ports will receive shipments instead of our long shoremen
NO! This will allow more illegals & drugs to enter our country
NO! Because their trucks will not have smog/safety checks
Great idea. Bush's insiders will make a ton of $$$$
Yes, anything Bush does is good for American's!!!
Oh My God, Your joking??? This can't be happening

Before rock 'n roll, there were cowboy songs. Jan 30, 2006 8:00 pm

I bought the c.d. "Singin' In The Saddle", songs of the American cowboy. These songs were popular when I was in grade school. Who would'da thought I listen to this c.d. almost every day while I'm puttering around the house.
My favorites are Tex Ritter singing Take Me Back to My Boots & Saddle, Roy Rogers singing Rock Me to Sleep in My Saddle, and the Sons of the Pioneers singing There's a Round-Up in the Sky.

The music is so simple and pure.

My daughter ask me how it was that we remained virgins until marriage. I told her that the movies used to END with a kiss. Today's movie might start out with a couple in bed and then one will ask the other what their name is after the "act". I do believe we were a more virtuous nation back then--for the most part, anyway.

Before t.v.Mama brought a piano into our living room. Jan 29, 2006 6:56 am

Our family led a simple life. Daddy made just enough money to provide the basics. We lived in a tiny house on 3 acres, with a garden, so we ate well, and Mama sewed our clothing. She would make dresses out of feed sacks for the 3 girls on a treadle sewing machine, when we were small. I remember walking over to a neighbor's house and collecting the feed sacks with Mama once. That was what she knew from her growing up in Fla. But we lived an hour away from L.A. in Calif.

When I was a little girl, there was a hubbub about getting a piano. I didn't understand it all, but low and behold (something my father would say), Mama found an upright listed in the newspaper, and they bought it. Used, I believe. It was placed in our tiny living room.
We did not have a t.v. We got one of those when I was 10 years old.

Mother then proceeded to attempt to teach us to play the piano. She wrote the letters on the piano keys with black crayon. My older sister was an easier student than I, according to Mama. So she excelled. I had a slightly rebellious nature that came out at the keyboard, as well as some other places. But I did learn to play a little piano, in spite of myself.

As a result of Mama's teaching, my sister and I could harmonize in grade school. When we walked home from school we liked to sing in harmony. A particular favorite song was called "The Cowboy and the Lady". Once, a woman named Mrs. Rogers told us that she so enjoyed hearing us singing as we walked home. After hearing that, we always sang a little louder as we passed by Mrs. Rogers’s house.

At the end of a long day, I'm sure, when mother had the four kids (one brother) tucked in bed, she would sit down to play and sing at the piano on nights when my father was working. A couple of times I got out of bed and went to her crying and would say to her: "I don't want you to die". I now wonder what she must have thought of this. I don't know why I did this--perhaps because there was occasional fighting between my parents.

When we grew into our teens, we moved to another little bit larger house The piano was given its place in the living room. The t.v. went into my father’s bedroom. We spent many hours at that piano. Sister playing and singing soprano, me alto, and Mother tenor. Sister received opera lessons and was very accomplished. We used to sing duets in church, and also performed in operettas and so on.

I am now 61 years old and I realize what a wonderful gift mother brought into our home. The gift of music. I also realize that my father tried to give us a better childhood than he had. His mother abandoned him in a box under the kitchen table. And he was raised by a father that was an older man who drank too much. I realize that my parents did the best they could.

I just finished reading Peace Like a River by Leif Enger. If you love words, he really knows how to put them together in the most unusual way. This book has received a lot of praise. One review from Publishers Weekly: "This is a stunning debut novel, one that sneaks up on you like a whisper and warms you like a quilt in a North Dakota winter, a novel about faith, miracles and family that is, ultimately, miraculous"

WE ARE MOST ALIVE WHEN FOLLOWING OUR PASSION Jan 4, 2006 11:48 am

I bought my 10-year-old grandson a keyboard for Christmas. And then I paid for lessons. Last night was his first. I called to see how it went. He said: "It was GREAT!!!!". I ask him to share with me what he learned. I could not believe how much he absorbed about beats, keys, flats, sharps, etc.,

I compare myself with him. He is a rising star, a sponge, easy to learn. I feel myself declining. I'm so GRATEFUL to watch my grandchildren and not focus on myself!

God has worked everything out. If we stay in tune with his plan, life is rich. I encourage you and myself to spend some time using our talents, for that is when we are most alive and happy.

This is the title of a book I checked out of the library about a 13 year-old girl. It won an award. I thought my granddaughter would like it. But she was not interested.

I LOVED this book. It took me back to my 13th year. The girl has a neighbor named Mrs Cadaver. I thought: "What an unusual name". Then I discovered the book is full of humor, drama, and innocence. I recommend it for a return to innocence.

What books would you suggest, and why.
