Finding spititual BLISS in the Bahamas at the straw market! Feb 6, 2007 1:51 pm
513 Views
We were in the Bahamas in January. Stayed at the Atlantis on Paradise Island. The ocean was BEAUTIFUL. White sand as fine as face powder. Blue water and gentle breezes. I watched T.V. in amazement when they talked about snow in Malibu, Ca. while we were there in Paradise.

One of the most unforgetable and wonderful experiences I had was walking through the straw market one afternoon. This is a make-shift structure about the size of a football field or two (I don't know about these things), covered with blue tarpolians. There were rows and rows of tiny booths where the poor sold t-shirts and local-made crafts. Somewhere under this massive tent, they were holding a prayer meeting. I never saw the ladies, but we could all hear them singing: "Ohh, I want to see Jesus, look upon his face..." I had to fight back the tears. It was so BEAUTIFUL. Some of the vendors (a lot of elderly women missing teeth) were singing along, and I even sang a few words. I have wanted to hold this memory in my heart and mind as long as possible. There is nothing as wonderful as blacks singing a spritual. Here in the midst of poverty there were riches. I left the Bahamas feeling peaceful. I really enjoyed watching the well-dressed, friendly, spiritual, blacks. This is THEIR land, and they do it proud!

Why did I do the blog on flushing/not flushing toilet paper? Jan 2, 2007 11:36 am

I was in Greece in the 70's. We used t.p. and flushed with abandon! When we were there in 2005, things had changed. There was no flushing t.p. in Pirea.

I use Greece as a marker for where America is heading. In the 70's people there told me they could not afford to keep their homes warm in the winter. I now see that happening here 30 years later. There are more people competing for utiliities, so the corporations get to charge more.

In Greece the fishing industry is in trouble. That is the case world wide. In the 70's the government shut off the water during the day because there was a shortgage. Will that happen here, in Calif??

I think most people are smart enough (when they become aware) to figure out that we need to asses the conditions of our planet and reverse the growth. Unfortunately, governments and large corporations have no heart or soul for quality of life and they are not going to figure out the obvious. If we want our grandchildren to enjoy wild fish, meat that is not cloned, water that is not recycled, and clean air, it is up to US to address the issue on many fronts. Thank you for reading all the way to here. Have a nice day, and please start talking about this issue. We are old enough to remember when there was open space instead of asphalt all around us.

What does a GUARDIAN ANGEL have to do with a RAT?? Dec 29, 2006 2:14 pm

I had a Christmas rat in my house. Never before and I hope never again. This was very stressful, sharing my home with a rat. It took me a few 'altered' bananas to come to the conclusion that 'something' was in my house.

The bottom line is: I ask my angels to help. The thought of trapping a rat was stressful. The thought of one dying behind my dishwasher was stressful. I set out a couple of traps. Thursday morning I got up and the trap had sprung, there were drops of blood around the trap--but no rat.

My stress continued until later that morning my daughter called out. "Mom, there's a rat that walked beside me out to the yard". I could not be sure that this was 'the' rat. But last night I left out some banana and it was undisturbed this morning.

How thankful I am that my angel and God heard my prayer of distress. It appears that we were able to see the rat (she said it was cute). I'm glad it did not die behind my appliances. If we had not seen it, we would wonder forever what happened.

Thank you my angels and God!!

That moon looked like a quarter slice of lemon. It was a wonderful surprise. The sky towards Los Angeles was darker than ususal. I guess that's because a lot of businesses were not running all their lights. The sky looked so peaceful with that quiet moon smiling down on us. I was grateful not to be missing anyone, past lover, family or friend. Everyone, here or in heaven, is where they are supposed to be. It felt good to be content. So much of my life has been missing something or someone! I felt so close to God in that moment.

Help! I have 2 uninvited 'guests' for the holidays!!! Dec 24, 2006 10:53 am

The first is a rat. He has been munching on my bananas. Now that I know what those noises are that I've heard, I am trying to get rid of him. I put out some poison last night with the banana. I have cleared all fruit out of the dining area. Does anyone have any suggestions?

The second is a major cold. Nuts! I'm trying everything to get over it a.s.a.p.

Everyone has troubles. It's part of the human condition. But MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE, anyway!

I was thinking: What if I keel over while jogging? Who would know my identity? Dec 20, 2006 2:07 pm

Today I came up with the solution, should I ever drop while exercising away from home. I made a photocopy of my health insurance card. It has my name, the hospital, and my ID number. I put it in my CD belt that I wear while exercising.
The hospital has my phone number and address. I don't want to carry too much information. I might add my phone number.

I have 'arrived'. I saw myself as an old woman. I was sitting in a comfortable chair in the corner. Just happy to observe the young people who came into my life. They were beautiful, full of energy, and I felt so greatful to have met them. I was liking my life. In my dream last night!

She thought he was messing around with his secretary, so this is what my M-I-L did: Dec 4, 2006 6:42 am

30 years ago when my daughter was 10 years old, she went to Greece to stay with her Yayaa and Papoo (Grandma & Grandpa) for the summer. Yayaa had been a striking beauty in her youth, but she had gained weight and the years had taken their toll. Papoo was vice president of a large organization. I did not know about the following story until a couple of years ago when my daughter told me what happened.

When my daugher visited Papoo's office, his secretary gave her an expensive piece of jewelry. I don't know if this triggered Yayaa's suspicions, or if it was just another piece of evidence in an on-going saga.

At any rate, Yayaa dealt with the problem by going--every day--to Papoo's work and camping out there to observe the 'couple'. This went on for awhile. Yayaa's girlfriend spoke up at one point and said it was not good for my daughter to set in the office day after day. She should be outside playing.

I don't know how the whole thing ended. I do know that my mother-in-law passed away in her early fifties of lukemia. That might have been a year after this incident. I guess she was not a complex woman. She dealt with the problem in the most direct and simple way. I giggle at the thought of her sitting there watching them. How awkward must that have been for the two of them?

How would you like to spend 3 months on a Greek island? Dec 2, 2006 1:09 pm

We were out to lunch when my husband brought up the topic. He is concerned about the money angle.

As soon as he said it I started thinking: 1. How will I manage to run my small business? We discussed me taking data on the computer with us, and using e-mails and faxes.

2. Housekeeping. Will we have to buy linens, pots and pans for me to cook? What about an iron? They don't use clothes dryers as far as I've seen. What if I have to wash clothes by hand? Maybe there won't be a washing machine. Most likely there will be no dishwasher. Will there even be a broom? (: ???

My husband continued on suggesting that we try to exchange our place in Baja for some place Greece for 3 months. He then looked at me and said: "You'll learn how to live without so many clothes. You have too many clothes".

We finished our lunch, but something was not setting right. The next morning before getting out of bed, I realized he had this vision of idle time spent on the island. I had in my mind how to do all the work involved without my modern conveniences (they don't have microwaves). And I realized that if I wore one outfit and took another, that he might consider that overdoing it. So I played back to him what I heard. I was dealing with the "sh[i!1l]t list" He laughed and said he got my point. I told him a month might be long enough for me, but he could stay longer if he wished.

What did you think of the Batchelor in Rome outcome? Nov 28, 2006 5:01 pm

I think he picked the right girl. I sure felt sorry for Sadie, being rejected. And what in the world was Lorenzo thinking when he said to her "I prefer to give the ring to someone else?"
I thought that was the cruelest way to say it. Over all, he sure seemed to anguish about hurting Sadie, and I believe he just didn't realize how biting his words were. It must have been the most stressful moment when he said it. He seems like a wonderful prince and I wish them well.
