SPACE

In life, we create problems in relationship and interaction when we do not allow our loved ones the space that they need for their own flights of fancy, activity and choices. That is my reason for choice of this tit le SPACE for my blogs.

Best wishes to all.

This story dates back to the years when Princess Margaret was still having her affair with Peter Townsend and Prince Charles and Princess Anne were quite young.

The conversation that took place when their third sibling was to be born is reproduced :

Anne - Do you know that the Queen is going to have a baby ?

Charles - How do you know ?

Anne - She told me.

Charles - How does she know ?

Anne thought for a while and said, "She must have read it in the papers."

Not to be outdone, the smart Prince Charles retorted, "MI 5 must have told her."

MY DAILY WISH

My daily wish is that we may
See good in those who pass our way;

Find in each a worthy trait
That we shall gladly cultivate;

See in each one passing by
The better things that beautify---

A softly spoken word of cheer,
A kindly face, a smile sincere.

I pray each day that we may view
The things that warm one's heart anew;

The kindly deed that can't be bought ---
That only from good are wrought,

A burden lightened here and there,
A brother lifted from despair,

The aged ones freed from distress;
The lame, the sick, brought happiness.

Grant that before each sun has set
We'll witness deeds we can't forget;

A soothing hand to one in pain,
A sacrifice for love - not gain;

A word to ease the troubled mind
Of one whom fate has dealt unkind.

So, friend, my wish is that we may
See good in all who pass our way.

The Images of our mothers at different stages of our life:

4 YEARS OF AGE ~ My Mommy can do anything!

8 YEARS OF AGE ~ My Mom knows a lot! A whole lot!

12 YEARS OF AGE ~ My Mother doesn't really know quite everything.

14 YEARS OF AGE ~ Naturally, Mother doesn't know that, either.

16 YEARS OF AGE ~ Mother? She's hopelessly old-fashioned.

18 YEARS OF AGE ~ That old woman? She's way out of date!

25 YEARS OF AGE ~ Well, she might know a little bit about it.

35 YEARS OF AGE ~ Before we decide, let's get Mom's opinion!

45 YEARS OF AGE ~ Wonder what Mom would have thought about it?

65 YEARS OF AGE ~ I sure wish I could talk it over with Mom...

My best wishes to all mothers and mothers to be on the MOTHERS' DAY.

I was sitting on a bench
while in a nearby mall,
When I noticed a young mother
with two who were small.

The youngest one was whining,
"Pick me up," I heard him beg
but the mother's face grew angry
as the clung to her leg.

"Don't hang on to me," she shouted
as she pushed his hands away,
I wish I'd had the courage
to go up to her and say...

"The time will come too quickly
when those little arms that tug,
Won't ask for you to hold them
or won't freely give a hug.

"The day will sneak up subtly
just as it did with me,
When you can't recall the last time
that your sat on your knee.

"Like those sacred, pre-dawn feedings
when we cherished time alone
Our babies grow and leave behind
those special times we've known.

"So when your comes to you
with a book that you can share,
Or asks that you would tuck him in
and help him say his prayer...

"When he comes to sit and chat
or would like to take a walk,
Before you answer that you can't
`cause there's no time to talk.

"Remember what all parents learn
so many times too late,
That years go by too quickly
and that childhood doesn't wait.

"Take every opportunity,
if one should slip away
Reach hard to get it back again,
don't wait another day."

I watched that mother walk away
her followed near,
I hope she'll pick them up
before her chances disappear...

Whenever your are out of control, you can take comfort from the thought that even God's omnipotence did not extend to God's . After creating heaven and earth, God created Adam & Eve.

And the first thing He said to them was, "Don't!"

"Don't what?" Adam replied.

"Don't eat the forbidden fruit," God said.

"Forbidden fruit? We got forbidden fruit?
Hey, Eve! We got forbidden fruit!"

"No way!"

"Yes way!"

"Don't eat that fruit!" said God.

"Why?"

"Because I'm your Creator and I said so!" said God.

A few minutes later God saw the having a forbidden fruit break and was angry.

"Didn't I tell you not to eat that fruit?" God asked.

"Uh huh," Adam replied.

"Then why did you?"

"I dunno," Eve answered.

"She started it!" Adam said.

"Did not!"

"Did so!"

"Did not!!"

There is reassurance in this story. If you have persistently and lovingly tried to give your wisdom and they haven't taken it, don't be hard on yourself. If God had trouble handling , what makes you think it would be a piece of cake for you?

Have a beautiful day and the week.

BUILDING BRIDGES

I have always fancied myself as a great peace-maker despite my occasionally violent nature. There was an incident about 15 years ago when I was in an unforeseen, unnecessary and unsavoury war with a neighbour whose parents had been very friendly with my parents. Reason for the war was a rather 'expansionist' demeanour that his wife displayed while I was usually away on my duty station wherever my work took me in India.

We were now involved in litigation following that 'expansion'; a thrashing was given to my caretaker and a handyman at my home and their families. The violent facet of me was about to take charge. I had decided that impotency of law must be corrected by the viagra of brawn.

My neighbour's elder sister - I had grown up calling her Didi (means sister in HIndi and elder sister in Nepali) - sent me a letter with a beautiful message BUILDING BRIDGES and sent one to her brother too. Yesterday, I saw this message appear at an inspirational site on the internet.

I am reproducing it for your reading pleasure.

BUILDING BRIDGES

Once upon a time two brothers who lived on adjoining farms fell into conflict. It was the first serious rift in 40 years of farming side by side, sharing machinery, and trading labor and goods as needed without a hitch.

Then the long collaboration fell apart. It began with a small misunderstanding and it grew into a major difference, and finally it exploded into an exchange of bitter words followed by weeks of silence.

One morning there was a knock on John's door. He opened it to find a man with a carpenter's toolbox.

"I'm looking for a few days work" he said. "Perhaps you would have a few small jobs here and there. Could I help you?"

"Yes," said the older brother. "I do have a job for you. Look across the creek at that farm. That's my neighbor, in fact, it's my younger brother. Last week there was a meadow between us and he took his bulldozer to the river levee and now there is a creek between us. Well, he may have done this to spite me, but I'll go him one better. See that pile of lumber curing by the barn? I want you to build me a fence -- an 8-foot fence -- so I won't need to see his place anymore. Cool him down, anyhow."

The carpenter said, "I think I understand the situation. Show me the nails and the post-hole digger and I'll be able to do a job that pleases you."

The older brother had to go to town for supplies, so he helped the carpenter get the materials ready and then he was off for the day.

The carpenter worked hard all that day measuring, sawing, nailing. About sunset when the farmer returned, the carpenter had just finished his job.

The farmer's eyes opened wide, his jaw dropped. There was no fence there at all. It was a bridge -- a bridge stretching from one side of the creek to the other! A fine piece of work -- handrails and all -- and the neighbor, his younger brother, was coming across, his hand outstretched.

"You are quite a fellow to build this bridge after all I've said and done."

The two brothers stood at each end of the bridge, and then they met in the middle, taking each other's hand. They turned to see the carpenter hoist his toolbox on his shoulder.

"No, wait! Stay a few days. I've a lot of other projects for you," said the older brother.

"I'd love to stay on," the carpenter said, "but, I have many more bridges to build."

THINGS TO REMEMBER

One woman complained to a friend that she couldn't remember anything from one day to the next.

"Let me get this straight," he said. "You can't remember anything from one day to the next? How long has this been going on?"

She said, "How long has what been going on?"

If your memory is not what you would like it to be, it may help to focus on the few things you really need to remember.

Remember that your presence is a present to the world.

Remember that you are a unique and unrepeatable creation.

Remember that your life can be what you want it to be.

Remember to take the days just one at a time.

Remember to count your blessings, not your troubles.

Remember that you'll make it through whatever comes along.

Remember that most of the answers you need are within you.

Remember those dreams waiting to be realized.

Remember that decisions are too important to leave to chance.

Remember to always reach for the best that is within you.

Remember that nothing wastes more energy than worry.

Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.

Remember that the longer you carry a grudge, the heavier it gets.

Remember not to take things too seriously.

Remember to laugh.

Remember that a little love goes a long way.

Remember that a lot goes forever.

Remember that happiness is more often found in giving than getting.

Remember that life's treasures are people, not things.

Remember that miracles can still happen.

"May I go now?" the almost completed, eager mother asked.
"Not yet. There are essential parts and finishing touches to be added," her Maker replied.

"I look pretty good to me," she said, peering into the crystal pool at her feet.

"True, you're looking better all the time. But bear with me."

"What does a mother have to do, God, besides wash, feed, and clothe little bodies?"

God only smiled and continued working.

"What are you doing now?" the curious mother-to-be questioned.

"Tightening your anger valve. If this doesn't work, everyone is in trouble."

She watched as He reached for the container marked patience.

"And what do I need patience for?" she asked as He poured in quite a supply.

"After a week you will know, my ."

"And whatever could that be?"

"This is your bypass mechanism. It enables a mother to operate efficiently for long periods of time without compliments from her ."

"I'm sure I won't need that."

"I'm sure you will."

Then God reached for a bundle labeled insulation against loud noises.

"You can skip that," she told him. "I don't mind a little noise."

"That's nice," He said.

Seeing all the energy He was preparing to give her, she shifted uneasily from one foot to the other. "I wouldn't need all that energy in a million years."

"Little you know. You will use all of this and be begging for more before long."

"I didn't know there was so much involved in being a mother. You're not just putting me on, are you?"

"No, little mother."

With much apprehension, "Are you sure I can handle the job?"

"Quite sure...with help. I'm always available when you need me."

"I'm glad to know that. What could I possible need all these for?"

"A certain amount of pain, so that you will be fully equipped to sympathize with and minister to the needs of your when they feel pain; tears, so that you will be able to cry with them when they are hurt; and laughter to blend with theirs for happy times."

The mother-in-waiting fidgeted while God attached yes and no buttons.

"Wouldn't it be nicer just to say yes to my all the time?"

"Definitely not. Good mothers need to say no--and often. Say it with kindness and they will respect you for it."

"Have you equipped me with this thing called kindness, Lord?"

"I have indeed."

"And what about respect? Do I have to respect my ?"

"Absolutely."

The anxious mother tried to be patient as God installed a question answered, advice giver, get along without sleep, and a pretender not to notice.

"I know I wouldn't use one of those!" she said, as God came toward her with a let-go lever.

"Sure you will, though it's hard. This is a vital piece of equipment. Until this little lever is released, your will not have room to grow properly, make their own decisions, or develop their own personalities."

"I guess that is important."

God stood back a few steps to appraise His work, then reached for a coat of love and wrapped it around her. "Wear this at all times, and you'll be a good mother."

I hope you woke up this morning
with a big smile on your face...

I hope the sun is shining just for you
and the birds are singing their very best songs...

I hope your coffee is hot and tastes just right
and the cats are purring contentedly,
and the mailman waves a cheery hello
and there are no bills in the mailbox...

I hope that your day is filled with lovely surprises
and friends call you up just to say "Hi"...

I hope you feel on top of the world
with a spring in your step all day...

I hope just everything goes your way ...

I hope everything is well with your world,
a place for everything and everything in its place...

I hope you can enjoy all you do
and you are complimented on the way you look
and you can laugh and talk and share
to your heart's content...

I hope you have all you wish for yourself
and those dear to you,
and all your dreams come true...

At the end of the day
I wish you a perfect moon shining just for you,
a snug and cozy bed with the softest of pillows
and I hope you sleep like a lamb
with a smile on your face...

I hope you have a perfect end to the perfect day
and I hope that every day is just as wonderful
in its own way...

I hope your day is ...
Filled with love.

Yesterday I met a stranger...
Today this stranger is my friend.

Had I not taken the time to say Hello,
or return a smile,
or shake a hand,
or listen,
I would not have known this person.

Yesterday would have turned into today
and our chance meeting would be gone.

Yesterday I hugged someone very dear to me.

Today they are gone...

...... and tomorrow may not bring them back.

Wouldn't it be nice if we all knew
tomorrow would be here?

But this is not to be,
so take the time TODAY

....... to give a hug,
..... a smile,
... and say "I LOVE YOU."

Have a beautiful week.

Best wishes to all.
