Some time ago, I posted a blog regarding the behavior of a female who moved in with a guy whose wife was confined to a nursing home and eventually died after an eleven year confinement. The female live-in announced in public - a super club lounge - how outrageous it was for the guy's kids to spend a whopping (yeah, right) $30.00 to have their mother's hair done by her private hairdresser for her wake. She stated, "For Chr***'s sake! What the h*** difference does it make what she looks like NOW?" She continued to bad-mouth loudly about how RUDELY the guy's grown sons/daughters treated her, that they had the "unmitigated gall" to call the house to let her know she was not to be so brazen as to attend their mother's funeral with their father.
I announced in my blog how this woman's behavior disgusted me, and especially delivered at the time it was delivered - the very day of the funeral - and under the influence. She waited in a bar for the guy to join her when he could "shake those blank blank brats of his" after the funeral. I was appalled, as were many others. That was six months ago.
Last Friday, this woman announced her engagement and wedding plans, "a private affair by special invitation only." (If she only knew the buzz that announcement sent out!) She also announced she was going to show "those kids" just what they would get when their father passes. (She already refers to his house as 'my house,' not even 'our house')
My question is this: Would any man in his right mind marry a woman that rivals his own flesh and blood in this manner????
Personally, I think he needs a brain transplant!!

Civilizing influence

I have come to believe that a man left to his own resources for too long lacks the civilizing influence a woman can lend, though I better NOT say that categorically! Too many become totally self-absorbed, rude and crude, and the damage becomes irreparable, too much for a woman to take on.
To the right mix, I believe there is a balancing effect. Irwin Shaw wrote:
The best man has somewhat of the softness of a woman; the best woman, somewhat of the strength of a man.
That quote is not verbatim, but close, and it captures the essence.

Inspired by Stillwatertoo, ie, $3000.00

This posting is in response to Spotheaussie's blog inquiring about what one would do if they were given $3000.00. I want Stillwater to find it.
My posting to Spotaussie:
I'd follow Stillwater's lead .... put the money in reserve for a bit and give it some thought.
I have a friend who is awaiting trial and settlement on a medical mal-practice suit. She is convinced she will receive mega bucks as a result of her ordeal. Her lawyer will get his 40% take, which is a given. She has announced all of the things she intends to buy with the money - the list of which grows daily - and NONE of them are practical. Many are of a personal "reconstruction" nature, and another, some swanky car with a ticket on it of approximately $65,000.00. (She already drives a brand new car, still owned by the bank - a convertible that she never drives with the top down because it messes her hair.)
My friend is a very soft-hearted person, and I love her to death - especially since she has told me I can still be her friend when she gets her awaited settlement. However, she is a woman that tells me in her next life she wants to be a movie star!!! I tell HER I will be a man with a pickup truck and lots of tools. She says I better be a hunk because she is going to be in high demand! I say I will probably find some cute, little waitress that works at a truck stop and be quite content that she saves her tips in a big glass jar. rofl
My silly point here is this. Some people have practical spending habits while others will spend with no thought of a soon-to-arrive ZERO balance .... the amount of money is of no relevance, really.
I'll probably buy a 6 mth CD with that $3000.00, and then renew it with the interest intact. Thanks for considering me, Stillwater. I intend to make you proud.

I entered a blog today that I thought might, for at least a brief period of time, land on the front page. No such luck. I thought it worthy of perusal. Please look back to see Mark Twain's "War Prayer". I understand, now, the problem with short term notice as evidenced by recent blogs and submissions.

'A War Prayer' ... Mark Twain

This 'prayer' bears repeating. It's quoted with a few deletions but with the message intact as cited in Twain's most brutal satire:
'O Lord our Father, our young patriots, idols of our hearts, go forth to battle - be Thou near them! With them, in spirit, we also go forth from the sweet peace of our beloved firesides to smite the foe. O Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; ... help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of the unoffending widows with unavailing grief; ... We ask it, in the spirit of love, of HIM Who is the Source of Love, and Who is ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen.'

Though it's already old, I just caught up with a post contributed by chatter Bob regarding a party's dealings with a credit card company after the death of a family member. Very funny, by the way!
It brought to mind a recent experience I had with having to use 411 long distance directory assistance to track down a new establishment in town that was not yet posted in the current directory. The establishment had changed hands/names three times in recent years.
When I gave the operator the current name of the establishment, her response was, "How are you spelling that?" I gave her the spelling. "Sorry, Ma'am, but there is such listing." Hummmmmm.
I asked the operator to check the previous name of the establishment. "Sorry, Ma'am, no such listing." Hummmmmm .... that's strange.
After a bit of thought, I recollected the name of the establishment even previous to the last one. The operator's response was, "Sorry, Ma'am, but you are allowed only two requests. You'll have to hang up and dial again."
WHAT??? I was still seeking SERVICE. All I wanted to do was to make a dinner reservation for Valentine's Day!
For that bit of "service," I was charged $1.41 on my next phone bill!! I did not feel I had received any 'service'.
FYI:
Since that time, I have become aware of 1-800-FREE-411, a service provided absolutely free of charge. I don't know where I've been, but another chatter informed me she'd been using the service for the past couple of years. GREAT! Now you tell me.
I've had occasion to test it. It works .... on home phones as well as cell phones.

Man chooses Mate

An offering from my brother .... I just have to run this by again.
A man wanted to get married. He was having trouble choosing among three likely candidates. He gives each woman a present of $5,000 and watches to see what they do with the money.
The first does a total make over. She goes to a fancy beauty salon gets her hair done, new make up and buys several new outfits and dresses up very nicely for the man. She tells him that she has done this to be more attractive for him because she loves him so much.
The man was impressed.
The second goes shopping to buy the man gifts. She gets him a new set of golf clubs, some new gizmos for his computer, and some expensive clothes. As she presents these gifts, she tells him that she has spent all the money on him because she loves him so much.
Again, the man is impressed.
The third invests the money in the stock market. She earns several times the $5,000. She gives him back his $5,000 and reinvests the remainder in a joint account. She tells him that she wants to save for their future because she loves him so much.
Obviously, the man was impressed.
The man thought for a long time about what each woman had done with the money he'd given her.
Then, he married the one with the biggest boobs. Men are like that, you know.
There is more money being spent on breast implants and Viagra today than on Alzheimer's research. This means that by 2040, there should be a large elderly population with perky boobs and huge erections and absolutely no recollection of what to do with them.
