Upon his retirement, my "closest thing" and I are planning a road trip from central Wisconsin to Taos, New Mexico, in February, 2010, eight months from now. We will be traveling through Iowa, Nebraska and Colorado. I want to know whom we might meet en route. Tell me NOW so we can make connections, OK? Sooooooooooooo, we're planners! LOL (This is assuming we haven't killed each other in the meantime. LO

HOURS on my knees!!

I planted this weekend, even though the weather forecast was not conducive. Again, the weatherman collected his salary for being dead wrong. He threatened a freeze two nights in a row. It didn't happen.
I spent about six hours on my knees mixing compost, fertilizer and potting soil to enrich my garden bed, not to mention digging up the sod that had encroached upon the space I wanted to look very tidy. I had to lug those heavy bags of compost, fertilizer and potting soil from the trunk of my car to the site. That alone, was back-breaking labor!!
I potted some parsley and basil in large terra cotta pots because I don't have enough garden space to place them in the ground. Besides, I deal with lots of shade, and in pots I can move them to the sun.
I also potted a beautiful, big coleus in a large, decorative container to place beside my steps and some impatiens in a wooden flower box I'd found at a garage sale for a buck and a half! Perfect!!
When everything was said and done, I sat on my steps and surveyed my labor's reward. This was the best part .... except to note I still have spaces to fill to ensure my garden is lush and full THIS summer. Some the perennials I planted will be a while in getting established.
This was my Sunday ...........
I deserved that bloody Mary my friend treated me to at day's end, dontcha think? YEAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!

You wanted my opinion .........
It was certainly heavy-duty. Artistically done, in many ways. BUT, there were huge gaps in the unfolding for me.
How was it the man came to live in the house with his deceased friend's wife???? This part was a bit too contrived to be believable.
The woman really gave the man no cause to love her, yet he did. Was it pay-back on his part? To pay back a friend who was there for HIM when everyone else had given up?
I did not see the reason the kids found the man so readily endearing, so much so that he was a ready replacement for their father. That part was way under-developed in the production.
I didn't like the ending. BUT, I suppose the roses sent were symbolic of love.
The emphasis on MONEY and CONTROL came through.
Other than those few criticisms, it was a good watch.

I went looking for that book at the library today. Guess what??? They have 70 copies and have a waiting list of over 400 people!!!! It must be one terrific book! I added my name to the list and will await an e-mail.
I couldn't even get a copy of "VISTA for Dummies." Been trying for weeks!! Might just buy one through Amazon.
Someone also suggested I watch the movie, "Things Lost in the Fire." I picked up the DVD today and will watch it this weekend. Looking forward to that.

The human species in no exception. Some survive and thrive; some fall prey. Some are dominant; some are weak. Darwin taught us natural selection in the 1800's .........
Sometimes, dealing with bullies can make us stronger, more fit. Sometimes, they will consume their victims.
Do you think "choice" enters in? Or are we doomed to the natural course of thngs??
Just curious.

though, I love it!! I guess I sorta, kinda just take it for granted ... to a point. It's nature's bidding, over which we have no control. SHE is indifferent to US! In the next breath, SHE can devastate us with a tornado, a hail storm, an earthquake. SHE is indifferent .............and leaves us to pick up the pieces, literally OR figuratively.

I am the appointed secretary of our condo association ... much to my chagrin. I HATE those meetings!!! They are a JOKE., but I must do my duty. I call these meetings "dominance by a few large mouths" who command the floor and never know when to shut the f up!!
At our last meeting - and being very much aware of parliamentary procedure - I sat with my hand up to be recognized by the Chairperson to get my figures straight on a "ground's revamping" proposal. Did I EVER get recognized? Nooooooooooooooooo. Rather, I got a hand out from the chair, stating, "One person at a time!!" All I wanted was to get figures straight for the minutes!! Rather the LOUD MOUTHS were permitted to dominate and run away with the show!! I was so exasperated with the whole thing, I felt like walking away!
Gurrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Well, tonight, I wrote a note that I will deliver door to door to all condo occupants stating how much in need we are of a formal indoctrination of PARLIAMENTARY PROCEDURE!!!
Can you feel my frustration???? It's slamming me here in my home place as well as in my work place ... a double whammy. Lord have mercy!!

True story ...........
For several months now, I've been aware of the cutest darn couple you'll ever want to meet. They come to the establishment that my "closest thang" and I frequent. They come to have one cocktail and to dine, to talk and to laugh, and it's easy to detect, to just plain enjoy one another!
This is a couple I would judge to be in their late 70's, maybe even 80. He is an old-fashioned gentleman and very attentive of his lady. He pulls her chair in and out, helps her with her coat, holds doors open, and - if you can imagine it! - he picks up the tab and leaves the tip! When they walk out, he has his arm around her waist.
The lady always appears amused at everything the gentleman says and wears a perpetual smile on that sweet little face. From a distance I can read in that adoring gaze she is forever telling him, "You are my prince," ... without uttering the words. It's been so darn sweet to watch!
This weekend, we all sat in close proximity. When I got up to go to the ladies' room, I had to pass their table. I couldn't resist. I stopped to introduce myself and to tell them I'd been observing them. They were warmly and delightfully receptive. I said, "You two are in love, aren't you?"
The lady beamed and looked demurely at her prince but didn't say anything. The gentleman responded with a huge smile on his face and an emphatic, "Yes!!"
Ahhhhhhhhh, how sweet it is!!
I looked at the lady and said, "Awe, shucks! And I thought I had a chance at stealing him away from you." They were both genuinely amused and laughed in response.
Before I knew it, we were on a first name basis. Barb and Don were open and sharing, a widow and a widower. Sooooooooooo cute!!!
I said, "Now, tell me. Just where did this all begin?"
Don was quick to express with a huge grin, "Well, we met in the green banana section of Copps Food Market."
I said, "Truly? How cool is that?!!"
He further offered, "When I saw her pawing through those green bananas looking for the largest and firmest banana she could lay her hands on, I seized the moment!"
roflmao!!!!
THAT's when I learned it's never too late. There was still fire in that furnace! LOTS of fire!!

Local "Job Fair," a joke.

I just helped tally the results of the "evaluations" people offered after attending a recent Job Fair here in our area of Wisconson.
Demographics were part of the survey/evaluation. The age bracket that covered the largest societal element who are currently unemployed is 41 to 55. I was amazed to discover how many of them hold either college degrees or technical associate degrees!!! YET, lots of the "stimulus money" that has come to the state is targeted for higher learning. Seems the objective is to keep everyone in school - from the cradle to the grave. I'm wondering how they will gain employment after all the schooling is achieved when the ones who already hold degrees cannot find work.
One guy said the title of the workshop, "Job Fair," was a misnomer. By the list of presenters, I agree. Lots of edcuational thrusts but very few actual employers were represented - other than temp agencies that stockpile applications or advise, "Apply on Line."
There were many disappointed participants as evidenced by the last item on the survey which simply read, "Comments." In a nutshell, the vast majority asked, "Where's the work?"
None of this looks promising to ME!!
