Love come softly, brush against my heart
Yearning for its closeness, not ever to depart
In God’s Infinite Wisdom, I place my life,
And trust for tomorrow, what be, what might
Whatever path this love may go
It carries with it the willingness,
to let it go
And hope that one day, it will again, brush against my heart ....
To stay forever.

WHY DO I BLOG? Aug 6, 2006 10:30 am
549 Views
When I first started blogging here on SFF I had no idea what benefits I would receive from doing so.

I quickly realized how much I enjoyed it. I have always enjoyed writing and found that blogging on SFF served as a great avenue. I was also still working through a broken heart and writing was very therapeutic.

However, the greatest benefit, and I think maybe the most important reason why I blog now, is the connection with the rest of you.

For those of you who read my blogs, but don't comment, I may go into the chat room, and many times someone will remark that they read and enjoy my blogs. Makes me feel good ~ and I feel like I'm not just a handle on the screen, but that person knows a little bit about me.

Those of you who read and comment. I so appreciate the connection we have. It's like sitting in your living room with a bunch of friends, just sharing and laughing, maybe being a little serious at times. Encouraging and advising. It's good stuff! Not only do you learn a little about me, but I get to learn more about you as well.

There has been some writing recently about cyber friends. Maybe the friendships we form here are not necessarily the true blue, long lasting ones that we experience outside of this cyber world. However, they are real ones, I feel ~ and no matter if they last only a few months, or through the duration of my time here on SFF ~ they are still treasured.

I am blessed.

MY ICE CREAM STORY Aug 4, 2006 2:42 am

I'm having a bout of insomnia ~ so here I am, its 2 o'clock in the morning and I decided maybe if I came on and read some blogs, and maybe wrote something, I'd get sleepy.

Popartist wrote a blog the other day about ice cream. I made a comment about my favorite Ben & Jerry's, but my all time favorite flavor is peppermint candy with a big scoop of hot fudge.

So, I am going to tell you a story about myself that is a little bit embarrassing, but it was a long long time ago. Let me make it perfectly clear, this was during my "sowing oats" years, and I've mellowed out considerably since.

When I was around eighteen/nineteen, I worked as a waitress at a little Mexican restaurant. My friend Vickie also worked there as a cook. During the slower times of the year, the two of us often were the only ones working. Our boss, the owner, lived in a house just in back of the restaurant.

Our customers had a choice of peppermint candy or vanilla ice cream for desert. That's where I discovered chocolate syrup over peppermint candy ice cream.

Our boss and her family decided to go on vacation and asked Vickie to stay at their house to watch over things. We also continued to keep the restaurant open for business while they were gone. One evening after we had closed up, we decided to call a few friends and have a party at the house. Although we were not 21 yet, we had a few friends who were.

I got pretty tipsy that night and began to think about peppermint candy ice cream and chocolate syrup. Grabbing the restaurant keys, I quietly slipped out of the house.

I didn't turn on the lights when I went in because I didn't want to be found out, and I could barely see straight in my condition anyway. However, I made a beeline for the freezer, scooped up some ice cream and then grabbed the chocolate syrup out of the fridge and squirted a generous amount over the ice cream. I then went and sat down at one of the booths ready to dive right into ice cream heaven.

One big delicious spoonful of peppermint candy ice cream smothered with chocolate syrup made its way to my mouth. YEEEECHHHHHHHH! What? This doesn't taste right I felt like I was going to get sick and spit the ice cream out into the dish.

I got up and went back where I could turn on a light and discovered that I had grabbed the ketchup container instead of the chocolate syrup. They were in the same type of container only different colors, and with the lights out, I couldn't tell the difference. In my tipsy condition I didn't even pay attention.

By that time, Vickie had discovered where I was and had come over to see what I was doing. We had a good laugh, and then scooped up another dish of peppermint candy ice cream each, with chocolate syrup of course!

MY INVISIBLE LOVER Aug 3, 2006 6:11 pm

Quietly he moves through my day
Gently caressing my face
His soft lips brushing like a feather
Against mine
I reach out to him
But he isn’t there
With longing for his arms around me
And his voice softly murmuring
Loves sweet song in my ear
My invisible lover.

Laughing Gas Aug 2, 2006 7:55 pm

Today I had an appointment with the dentist. I had a couple of teeth that needed some attention. Through the years, my experience with the dentist have been pretty good, but it didn't start out that way.

I was around nine when I took my first trip to the dentist. Mom was taking my brother in because he had an abcessed tooth. My little brother and I tagged along. While we were sitting in the waiting room we could hear my brother, Fred, moaning and groaning very loud. I was worried for him, because it sounded like the dentist was really hurting him.

My Mother, bless her little soul, decided that as long as we were all there, she would have the dentist take a look at mine and my younger brothers teeth as well. I was petrified. This guy was in there killing Fred, and she was going to send us in there for the same? OHHHHHHHHHH

When it was my turn, I began crying before I even got into the dentist chair. This dentist had no sympathy. He really didn't have any skill whatsoever in soothing this scared little girl. He got very upset with me because I wouldn't quit crying and at one point actually placed his hand over my mouth and nose to get me to shut up.

So, you can see ~ my first experience was not very good at all. His manner with me never did improve and I never did like going in to see him.

Even though all my trips to the dentist as an adult have been far less traumatic, I still carry with me those memories and still experience anxiety when I go.

This new dentis I saw today gave me the option of using laughing gas. I had never had it before, and didn't want the extra expense. However, he doesn't charge for it! So, I thought why not.

What a nice day at the dentist He was good at what he did, and I felt very little of what he was doing in my mouth. They gave me just enough gas that I felt so relaxed, I was even day dreaming at one point and realized I wasn't even paying attention to the drilling going on in my mouth. He had a TV braced on the wall and Regis and Kelly were on. At one point something was said on the show that was funny, and I chuckled some about it ... all the time he is drilling away!

I love laughing gas

Well, I didn't get much done in the way of studying today. Yesterday I started a new lesson and pulled out my Anatomy and Physiology notebook to read about the reproductive system. Today I was going to listen to tapes and go over the flash cards for the lesson. I quickly discovered that I read up on the wrong lesson yesterday ~ I got way too far ahead of myself. I should have read the chapter on the respiratory system. I ended up taking the day off and instead went up to see my cousin who had come home from the hospital. So, tomorrow I'll read. On a positive note, when it is time to study the reproductive system I'll be ahead of the game a little .

Dale has one sister living here, and two others arrived today. He is unable to walk without a walker, and really only from bed to bathroom to living room chair and back to bed. His place is very small, so the distance to each is not much at all. Most of the time he is in bed, and sleeping. He fell today while in the bathroom.

His short term memory is bad. I brought him a big bag of bite size snickers today ~ he loves chocolate. He told me he was drunk. I'm not sure if he really thought he was, or if he was joking ~ the medication and the headaches combined make him appear to be.

It is such a sad situation, and one that could have been prevented had he taken care of himself.
It has really given me a lot to think about in my own health issues, and the risks I take by not taking care of my body as best I can.

Please take care of yourself my friends.

Prayer Request Update Jul 31, 2006 2:12 pm

Thanks to everyone who prayed for my cousin Dale. He is suppose to be released from the hospital today. Things are not going too well for him unfortunately.

I misunderstood my aunt when I put the initial request on SFF. Apparently it wasn't that he was bleeding ~ but that he wasn't getting blood to an area of his brain just above his left ear. They have managed to get is BP down, but he has to be monitored very closely. He is also suffering from severe headaches and has problems with his balance. After running some tests they have determined that he suffered a stroke.

The doctors say there isn't anything else they can do. I don't know how much the stroke may have affected him ~ I guess time will tell. I have heard wonderful stories of people who have made a pretty good recovery after having one.

Dale is only 52 (or 53?). Too young to be facing what may be down the road for him.

I worry about my aunt too. She was the primary caregiver for my Grandmother before she passed away last year, as well as taking care of my uncle, who is okay, but does have some health issues that require a lot of help from her. Now my cousin, who has been living with them for about a year now, will need special attention as well. Fortunately, there is enough family around to help out.

Thanks again for your prayers.

Excerpts from a teenage Diary ~ XI
I hope you enjoy these entries from my diary. I was 13 at the time. Brown colored text are my comments now.

February 15, 1964

Dear Diary,

Today it snowed constantly. It's about 6 or 7 inches now.

I saw Chuck today. Gary and I walked down to the post office. He
[ Chuck ] was wearing a green sweater that looked so good. I don't know if he saw us or not. I hope he did (in a way).
I didn't do much today. I called Becky and she said she had cleaned her room. [ exciting diary, right? ]

Wrote Gerry and Cheryl. They weren't long letters but they said something. [ better than a blank page I would imagine ]

February 16, 1963

Dear Diary,

Today at church we sang my favorite song "How Beautiful upon the Mountains". I'm in the church choir and we sing every Sunday.

I didn't do much today.

Nanette wrote me a note. Honestly, she sure has gone nuts over Robin. [ and what about you? uh, remember Chuck? ]

Saw the Beatles on T.V. Boy are they swell. They sang my favorite songs "She Loves You" [yeah yeah yeah ] and "All My Loving." Oh how I wish I could meet up to face with them (wishful thinking!)

February 19, 1963

Dear Diary,

Today seems like yesterday, and yesterday I thought it was Monday. I guess Monday went kind of fast.
[ I always thought I was a confused teenager ].

I had a chance to see Chuck today and I never did. If I had gone up to Kathy's house I would have seen him. [another missed opportunity ]

I had three dreams last night. One was all about Ken. One was all about Chuck and one had them both in it. [ sheesh, I was rather fickle, don't ya think? ]

I didn't do much today. [geez, I had a lot of days I didn't do much!] Mary seems to be more friendly now. She use to be real shy.

MOONY ~ WHERE IS GEORGE? Jul 29, 2006 1:08 pm

I've flown here and there
Oh my, gosh every where
Searching for my man, who's so sweet

Do you think you can find
That hubby of mine?
If so, it would be such a treat!

My spaceship awaits
To whisk him away
To home sweet home we will go

I'll fix up a banquet fit for a king
And for dessert?
That's only for my George to know.

Elephant's Memory Jul 29, 2006 9:45 am

This was such an incredible story about an elephant's memory, I just had to share it with my friends on SFF ~ Karen

UPI July 3, 2006

A young man was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from college. While he was walking through the bush, he came across a young bull elephant standing with one leg raised in the air.

The elephant seemed distressed so the man approached it very carefully. He got down on one knee and inspected the elephant's foot. There was a large thorn deeply embedded in the bottom of the foot.

As carefully and as gently as he could he worked the thorn out with his hunting knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down its foot. The elephant turned to face the man and with a rather stern look on its face, stared at him. For a good ten minutes the man stood frozen -- thinking of nothing else but being trampled.

Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned and walked away.

The man never forgot that elephant or the events of that day. Twenty years later the man was walking through the zoo with his teenaged son. As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the creatures turned and walked over to where they were standing at the rail. The large bull elephant stared at him and lifted it's front foot off the ground, then put it down. The elephant did that several times, all the while staring at the man. The man couldn't help wondering if this was the same elephant.

After a while it trumpeted loudly; then it continued to stare at him.

The man summoned up his courage, climbed over the railing and made his way into the enclosure. He walked right up to the elephant and stared back in wonder.

Suddenly the elephant trumpeted again, wrapped its trunk around one of the man's legs and swung him wildly back and forth along the railing, killing him.

Probably wasn't the same elephant.
