Love come softly, brush against my heart
Yearning for its closeness, not ever to depart
In God’s Infinite Wisdom, I place my life,
And trust for tomorrow, what be, what might
Whatever path this love may go
It carries with it the willingness,
to let it go
And hope that one day, it will again, brush against my heart ....
To stay forever.

I have always admired those who speak another language other than their native tongue. This includes those who Sign.

I believe it was my sophomore year in high school (way too far back to really be clear on) I took French. The school only taught two languages, French and German. I wish I'd chosen German now, since that is where my ancestry goes back to, but, it sounded more romantic to take French. I knew from the onset that it was not going to be an easy class for me. I had problems diagramming English sentences, and now I was going to take on French? Oh mon dieu!

My French teacher knew right away that I wasn't going to master it very well, and she was the type who had favorites. So, you can guess where I was on her list.

Now there are only a few phrases I can recall. I use to be able to read it and understand much more than I could in speaking it. Its been so long now, even those phrases are fading away.

One benefit of taking the class though was having a French pen pal. She was far better with her English than I was with my French, and unfortunately for her, most of my letters to her were in English. She would write her letters part in English, and part in French. At one point she wrote "please write some to me in French" because it took her a while to read my letters when they were all in English. I'm sorry to say I never did master it, and eventually my French pen pal and I quit corresponding. However, I do remember her fondly and I still have the letters she wrote, plus a couple of pictures and the doll pictured below. The doll reminds me of that time, and I wonder what became of her.

So, do you speak another language other than your native tongue?

ONE OF MY FAVORITE PAINTINGS Jun 5, 2009 2:31 pm

Back in the early 70's when my folks still lived in the town that I grew up in, there was a local restaurant we use to go have breakfast on occasion. The walls of the restaurant were covered with artwork from local artists. The picture here was one of them. It was my Dad's favorite, and he often mentioned how much he liked it every time he was in the restaurant. If I remember correctly, the painting cost around $75.00 at the time, which was pretty expensive for any of us to take on by ourselves, so between my Mom, and my brothers and I, we were able to purchase the painting as a Father's Day gift for Dad.

I loved the painting too. I'm not sure what the title is ... the paperwork is on the back, and its too high up for me to take down to check for sure, but I believe it is called "Tollgate Park." It is actually a painting done of Tollgate Park, just up the road about 1/2 mile or so from the town of Rhododendron, OR. The artist did an absolutely wonderful work replicating the mountains in the background, and the way I remember how they looked at the skyline. This picture was also painted after the flood of 1964, and shows the barrenness of the rivers edge, ravaged by the flood.

For over 20 years, this painting graced a living room wall of my parents home. When my Dad passed away, and my Mom remarried and moved here to Redding, the painting came with her. When I was asked if there was anything I wanted of my Dad's, I began to cry, and tell her it was the painting. I already had one of his pipes, and a pair of his glasses ... oh, and his favorite coffee cup. However, as much as I loved the painting and appreciated the artists work, I wanted it because it had been my Dad's favorite. Also, because it was a piece of "home." Now, the picture graces my living room wall.

Robyn5 BLOG PAGE BELONGS TO US.......GET IT BACK. has given us a challenge to take back our blogs and I am up for the challenge. Honeyb0404 Can you say EXTRAVAGANZA??? also has posted a blog about Robyn5's challenge and made some good suggestions for what to blog about. Check them both out.

Let's get our light side out. I love the picture above. We need to put a twinkle to our wrinkles. The wrinkles are bound to come, we can' stop them .... so why not make them twinkle!

Here are a few other blogs I saw on the front page that I thought were worthy of mention. This is just a random pick. We have some really good bloggers out there, and I miss the light-hearted, story telling ones the most. I admit I haven't been on SFF much lately, and I've missed reading. I am going to do my best to start commenting on the good blogs, the great reads, the fun ones .... and leave the dark, depressing, mean-spirited ones to rot in the dust.

Check out the "Spring in the Maritime" blogs of Gentleben. I liked this one specially Spring in the Maritimes #3 - Lobster A very unique photo.

Starphysh has been posting her artwork. A very talented artist she is. Here is one of them mothers of war

I also liked this blog from gisthespot. The picture was cute, and the message a great one. Let Sleeping Dogs Lie

And, last but certainly not least, is Gets blog [post 105572] I love blogs like these where there can be a lot of participation and good laughs.

POSTING PICTURES May 29, 2009 6:58 am

A few of you asked me to share what I did to downsize the photos I recently posted in my blogs. I am not even close to being knowledgeable about these things, but I will pass on some information to you that should be very helpful.

If you haven't already read them, you might want to check out a couple of other blogs on the subject. Gentleben4 commented on one blog, and then posted his own, with steps a person can take to adjust their photos.

He left comments on lovelyladu08's blog WHAT THE HECK IS UP WITH POSTING PICS WITH BLOG?????
and posted follow up to that one Photo Experiment #2

What I personally ended up doing was going back to my photos on my pc files. I opened the photo up using the photo program I have and clicked on edit. In the edit features was an option to "resize" and I clicked on that. Then I had some options that included "for email" and "for website/blogs" and I chose the website one. It then resized the photo appropriately and voila! I didn't have to do any of the math. It was done for me.

Gentleben goes into more detail and I encourage you to check out the blogs linked above.

Classybaglady also gave some good information. She uses a free photo editing program you can get on line. It's called Picasa. If you do a search using the big "G" search engine, you should find it without any problem.

Hope this helps.

Here is another picture of Lake Shasta that I took on Mother's Day.

I have tried and tried to figure out what the picture is that you have up as your profile pic right now. I am bewildered. The most I can make out is a pair of boots but then the "thing" looks like it has a tail too?

I wonder if anyone else has an idea what it is .... anyone up for guessing?

ANOTHER PICTURE AND DAY OF ADVENTURE May 28, 2009 2:59 pm

Now that I've received some good advice from a couple of people about resizing photos, I'm going to give it a try with this blog.

On Mother's Day, my folks and I went out for brunch, and then we took a drive up to Shasta Lake Dam. It was a beautiful drive. We wanted to see how the waters were, since we recently had a couple of weeks of good rain. Our fire season is approaching, and it wouldn't be good to have the water levels too low.

This is a picture of me and my lovely Mom. As you can see from the background, the Dam is up to good levels.

I recently had a fellow SFF'er share with me some photos taken of the Wyangala Dam located 45km east of Cowra in the heart of NSW, Australia, and it was unbelievable how low the waters were. It was like looking at a patch of land with mud puddles. Very sad situation, and I pray that they will get plenty of rain this winter season to bring the water levels back up.

Back to Mother's Day ... as I said, it was a beautiful drive, and peaceful as well. There were a few others who had the same idea as we did, but not enough to make it "touristy" or crowded.

I AM IN LOVE May 27, 2009 1:16 pm

With two of the sweetest little boys.

Being that I did not have any kids of my own, I have not had much of a chance to display my nurturing side. I have a good friend here who happens to have two grandsons that I am now able to bestow some of that bent up motherly/grandmotherly nurturing and I am happy as a clam.

Ebin is the oldest, he is five, and his little brother, Ayden is three. Sometimes they come to me and ask for hugs and kisses so freely .... and then they say "I love you." Oh, man ... does my heart melt!

The picture here was taken Memorial Day when we got together for a BBQ. The kids had big gigantic (monstrous actually) squirt guns, but fortunately, even though they were instructed to, they didn't go after me. The weather was pretty hot, which meant staying inside where it was cooler most of the time, and also was the safety zone!

TREASUREHUNTER4 ~ MY SPECIAL KING OF BAD May 4, 2009 11:24 pm

Classy_baglady posted a blog earlier today letting us know the sad news of one of our own passing GOODBYE, TREASUREHUNTER4....MAY YOU REST IN PEACE

I left a comment on her blog, but wanted to pay a special tribute to him myself with this blog. I got to know Dave more personally after he and I were bestowed the esteem titles of SFF King and Queen of Bad. Bad would turn out the be the farthest from the truth with this man.

Dave wrote thought provoking blogs, and had a real talent for bling art.

Although I never had the pleasure of meeting him in person, I did get to know him through email correspondence outside of SFF. I could count on Dave sending emails that were usually interesting, and educational. On Fridays he would send his "bad boy" emails, which were never really out of line, but always good for a laugh.

Dave was a very kind and gentle man who contributed a lot of good will to this site.

I will miss you my King.

PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS Apr 30, 2009 1:30 pm

You know that old idiom, right? It basically means that if you support something with your words, you need to also support it with your actions.

I do a lot of observing, and try to come to my own conclusions because of them, rather than take someones word for it, specially if what is being said can be very damaging. I was once told, many years ago, that I was "easily swayed" and I now try my darnedest to not be.

So, in observation, I read a lot of words about being a positive person, and not wanting to contribute to a negative situation and/or conversation, yet .... with some who make that statement, I don't see it in their actions.

Just an observation .... but people, please consider the fact that actions do speak louder than words. Your actions may just be the straw that breaks the camels back when another has to make a decision on whether to be a part, or not, of a group, an organization, or even a bunko club.

SPICES ~ WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE? Apr 21, 2009 11:34 pm
1416 Views

My Mom taught me to cook at an early age so that I could fix the evening meal on the days that she had to work through dinner time. I got really good at making hamburger patties, mashed potatoes and gravy, and serving a lettuce wedge with a blop of mayonnaise on it. I got really good at the gravy too ... no lumps!

I know my mother must have used other spices, but I wasn't really introduced to cooking with them until I was a young adult living on my own, and doing my own cooking all the time. Those dinners I cooked for my Dad and brothers usually were seasoned with just plain old salt and pepper and nothing else.

Now I have some favorite spices I like to cook with, but it seems that I am seasoning just about everything with them. For instance, I like to fix my eggs with curry and basil and cayenne pepper. I like to cook up a pork chop and season it with basil and cayenne pepper. I like to put lots of basil in my soups ... and cayenne pepper. See what I mean.

I need a change. What are some of your favorite spices, and what types of dishes do you season with them? I need some fresh ideas!

Oh, I bought some turmeric last week ... never have used it before .... have you?
