Love come softly, brush against my heart
Yearning for its closeness, not ever to depart
In God’s Infinite Wisdom, I place my life,
And trust for tomorrow, what be, what might
Whatever path this love may go
It carries with it the willingness,
to let it go
And hope that one day, it will again, brush against my heart ....
To stay forever.

For all of you that are going to this event I want to wish you a safe journey and a wonderful time.

I do hope that I'll be able to attend a bash or two in the future. It would be so nice to meet face to face. Although I am your Queen of Bad, I don't dance on table tops anymore, and I don't get all lovey and mushy and go around kissing everyone* ...... but I do love to join in the merriment and have a good time.

Those taking pictures, be sure to come back and share with us.

Have Fun!
~Karen

IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT Sep 25, 2007 10:41 am

CountryGirls latest blog brought to mind an incident (or two) that happened to me when I lived on a very busy street in Portland. My front room windows looked right out onto Stark Street and the only thing separating the two was a very small patch of yard and the sidewalk.

The house I lived in was a two-story and my bedroom was at the front of the house. It was a large bedroom and I was able to frequently rearrange my bedroom furniture. The times that I had my bed up close to the window looking out on the street below were the times I heard all sorts of things going on outside in the middle of the night.

One time in the very early morning hours when the streets were pretty quiet I heard a car drive by and it was definitely going way over the speed limit. I could hear a young child screaming "Daddy stop! daddy stop!" It all happened so suddenly, and being still half asleep, I didn't even think to call the police. I have often wondered what the story was behind that.

Another time, I woke up to lights flashing on my bedroom walls, reflecting from the police cars out on street. I heard a lot of shouting and looked out my window as some police were running towards my back yard. Thank God my nephew was staying with me that summer while he was going to school and he went to investigate. It turned out the police were chasing after someone and he had taken a short cut through my back yard. Later the next day my nephew found a knife hidden in the bushes next to my house that this guy had dropped along the way.

Now, my funny story. I was woke from a sound sleep (again) in the early morning hours and heard noise out on the street. When I looked out my window to see what it was I saw a person taking things from one car and placing into another. Course my thought was, this guy is stealing. I called the police and they arrived shortly. I went down stairs to get a better look at what was going on and was looking out my front window blinds. They were closed and so I was using my thumb and finger to open the blind just enough so that I could see. I had the lights turned off so that no one could see me. (I thought) As the policeman stood there questioning this person he turned and looked towards my house and waved at me! I was mortified! I got caught spying! My knee jerk reaction was to wave back by moving my two fingers up and down, making the blind flap open and shut.

As it turned out, the guy was just transporting his own stuff from one car to another.

And one more story..... I came home from work one day and my neighbor came over to tell me that earlier that morning he looked out his window and saw someone peering into my garage then turn around and walk over and try to open the outside door that lead into my basement. The guy looked up and saw my neighbor and took off running. My neighbor called the police and shortly after they came to his door. They had caught the man and needed the neighbor to identify him. He was then taken away in the police car. I thanked my neighbor for calling the police. The next day I came home for lunch and my landlord was there. He had come over to mow the lawn. He had the garage door open and was getting the mower out. I walked over to talk to him and he pointed out a sleeping bag and old battered up radio that was sitting over in the corner of the garage. It was not my stuff. I then put two and two together and realized that this person who had tried to enter my house had probably spent the night in my garage. When my neighbor saw him "peering" into my garage, he had actually just ended up pushing the garage doors shut. Creepy feeling it was to think that guy had been out there sleeping the night before.

I now live in a much quieter neighborhood!

PHOTOS AND WEIGHT LOSS Sep 24, 2007 2:17 pm

Alright, I know that I get a little carried away with my photos, but there is a reason behind the madness.

I have decided to keep a picture diary of my weight loss. It is too soon to start taking full figure photos until I have lost a more substantial amount of weight. However, I am taking a "head shot" each week.

This photo was taken today. So far, as of today, I have lost a total of 26 lbs since July. I have a very long road ahead, and many more pounds to lose. However, I wanted to share with you my success so far.

MISINTERPRETATIONS Sep 24, 2007 11:20 am

This came to me in an email today. I think it is one of those kind of round robin sort where you add on your own stories. Funny stuff I thought I'd post.

Misinterpretations.....Kids Say It

**When my twin daughters were young, I taught them to say this prayer before going to bed. As I listened outside their door, I could hear them say, "Give us this steak and daily bread, and forgive us our mattresses." My husband and I always had a good laugh over this. That was over 50 years ago, and the memory still remains in my heart

**My mother spent her early childhood saying, "Hail Mary, full of grapes."

**My son, who is in nursery school, said, "Our Father, who art in Heaven, how didja know my name?"
(note from me ~ I love this one. Its one I am constantly asking! )

**I remember thinking this prayer was "Give us this day our jelly bread."

**I recall reading something years ago about the Pledge of Allegiance. Some child thought it began, "I led the pigeons to the flag."

**When I was little, I often wondered who Richard Stands was. You know: "I pledge allegiance to the flag . . And to the republic for Richard Stands."

**When my husband was 6 years old, he thought a certain Prayer was "He suffered under a bunch of violets." The real words were "under Pontius Pilate," but at that age, he didn't know better. To this day, we still snicker in church whenever that prayer is read.

**When my older brother was very young, he always walked up to the church altar with my mother when she took communion. On one occasion,
he tugged at her arm and asked, "What does the priest say when he gives you the bread?" Mom whispered something in his ear. Imagine his shock many years later when he learned that the priest doesn't say, "Be quiet until you get to your seat."

**When I was younger, I believed the line was "Lead a snot into temptation." I thought I was praying for my little sister to get into trouble.

So, how about you? Do you have any stories to tell on yourself?

BUBBA AND RAY Sep 23, 2007 12:28 am

Engineers Bubba and Ray were standing at the base of a flagpole, looking up.

A woman walked by and asked what they were doing.

We're supposed to find the height of the Flagpole," said Bubba, "but we don't have a ladder."

The woman took a wrench from her purse, loosened a few bolts, and laid the pole down Then she took a tape measure from her pocket, took a measurement, announced, "Eighteen feet, six inches," and walked away.

Ray shook his head and laughed. "Ain't that just like a woman! We ask for the height and she gives us the length!"

I HAD A DREAM! Sep 21, 2007 9:29 am

I have to tell you about the dream I had before it fades away.

In this dream I had gone back to school at the university where I use to work. I was crossing a very familiar downtown street when this bright red sporty convertible drove up and stopped at the light. The guy driving rolled down his window and called to me. It was Maynard*, an old boyfriend of mine. I walked over to his car and noticed that he was also sporting a very handsomely trimmed dark beard and mustache. Oooo, did he look good!

I jumped in the car with Maynard and we went over to his house. It looked as if we were going to rekindle our romance. We went into his bedroom and laid on the bed. We talked and smooched ... but nothing else! I was happy, he was happy. However, he then got up and left the room and I got up and started looking for my shoes and could only find one. I looked under his bed and there before me must have been 50 or so ladies shoes ... one each of a pair!

(I wonder if this is the same as carving a notch on the bedpost?)

*the name has been changed to protect the innocent. Well, maybe not innocent, but to protect anyway!

BEST FRIENDS Sep 18, 2007 12:34 pm

As many of you know by my previous blogs, In 2005 I moved to Redding from Oregon. When I did, I left behind a wonderful mix of friends who had been my refuge during hard times, my play pals, my confidants, my most trusted and truest. I have had moments many times since moving here of missing them greatly and wishing so much that I could call on one of them to go out to a movie or dinner, or just to go driving around and exploring. Thank God for email and telephones!

I'd like to share a few of these friends with you. I love each one of them in their own uniqueness.

Guy: (pronounced the French way with a hard g ... Gee) We met when he came to work at PSU. I was very attracted to this dark haired French man with his peculiar accent. However, romance was not to be a part of our relationship. I think if I were to ask him, he would agree that when we met it was the beginning of an enriching, fun-loving, faith building time of growth for both of us. We could spend a whole day sitting around engaging in very serious, soul searching conversation, or be silly, play games and laugh so hard my stomach hurt, or (pardon me) I'd pee my pants! To this day, even though we don't see each other very often now, I count him as one of my closest of friends.

Darlene. She is the same age as my Mom. Although our relationship is based on mutual interests, respect and our Christian faith, there have been times she has been like a second Mom to me. I have come to her broken, and ashamed, just needing to bare my soul. She has loved me through some difficult and trying times.

Joy: Her name exemplifies who she is. What a joy she has brought to my life. Several times she has packed a picnic, called me up and said "I'm taking you away from it all" and then she'd come pick me up and we'd drive out to a park, or a lake and sit and enjoy our picnic meal and just relax and enjoy the peace and solitude of our surroundings. She also plays a mean game of "13."

Rosie: She is the practical joker of the bunch. One time she was at a singles potluck and went around asking the guys if they would like a kiss. When their response was yes, she'd hand them a candy kiss. She and I have dressed up as clowns and entertained kids and then gone out to eat afterwards with our costumes still on. I've set beside her in a movie theater and shrunk down in my seat hoping no one would see me when she would laugh .... she has one of those donkey sort of laughs. hee haaawww hee haawwww

Sue and Vic: I think I'll always be joined at the hip with these two. We met in high school and were housemates for four years when we first moved out on our own. With them I share a history of life itself from high school and beyond. From, boyfriends to husbands, from babies to grandbabies. Sharing the grief of the death of a parent because not only were we involved in each others lives, but we were like adopted daughters into each others families. We sewed our wild oats together.

Elaine: We share a bond so unbreakable, she is my soul sister. We have cried, laughed and prayed together and have shared our inner most thoughts and desires with one another. She is the one I have trusted my most darkest secrets with. She is the most giving and selfless person I know. We have spent many early morning hours drinking coffee and having some of the most deeply spiritual conversations. She also has a beautiful knack of seeing the humor in the simplest of life experiences.

Well, these are a few of many who have made an impact in my life, and bless me to this day with their friendship.

I think the most common thread in all of these relationships is our unconditional love for each other. It hasn't been smooth sailing all the time. We've been through rough waters. Anger, hurt feelings and disappointment have had its place one time or another. However, we've survived through those times because we see beyond our weaknesses and our imperfections and embrace what is good and beautiful and loving in each other.

(The friends in the picture ... thats Vic and Sue in the background, and Sharon who is another special friend I have known since high school. She is one of those that no matter how long its been since we've last seen each other, we just take off right where we ended.)

How about you? Care to share about a friend or two of yours?

YOUR FAVORITE TIME TO DRINK Sep 17, 2007 2:14 pm

Stillwater said something on one of his blogs the other day that gave me the idea for this blog. He said "what a great morning for drinking coffee."

I could relate to that comment. There are just days or times of the day that are better than others for enjoying a good cup of coffee. For me it is in the early morning. I wish I had a little outdoor patio, because then I would have a little table and chairs out there and I'd spend a little time each morning (weather permitting) to sit out there and sip from my favorite mug. Actually, I'd even enjoy sitting out there on a rainy day as long as it had a covering. Then I could sit and listen to the patter of rain on the roof. I'd contemplate the events of yesterday and plan for the day ahead. Some days might even be a 2 or 3 cupper before I'm ready to get busy.

There is something about fresh air and coffee that go together for me. Maybe part of it is remembering the many camping trips we took during my childhood and the first thing on the fire in the morning was campfire coffee. The aroma of wood burning and coffee perking ... hmmmm.

So, when is your favorite time of day for drinking? Coffee or tea that is ....

(the photo is a picture of my favorite mug to drink coffee out of. In case you can't read what it says ... "Dad of the World's Greatest Kids" It was my Dad's mug. I got it for him one year for Father's Day and he got such a kick out of it. I drink out of it whenever I want to feel close to his memory.)

I'D LIKE TO TEACH THE WORLD TO SING ](R. Cook/R. Greenway/B. Backer/B. Davis)

I'd like to build the world a home
And furnish it with love
Grow apple trees and honey bees
And snow-white turtle doves

Chorus:
I'd like to teach the world to sing
In perfect harmony
I'd like to hold it in my arms
And keep it company
(That's the song I hear)
I'd like to see the world for once
(Let the world sing today)
All standing hand in hand
And hear them echo through the hills
For peace throughout the land
That's the song I hear
(That's the song I hear)
Let the world sing today
(Let the whole wide world keep singing)
A song of peace that echoes on
And never goes away

Put your hand in my hand
Let's begin today
Put your hand in my hand
Help me find a way

(Repeat Chorus til fade)*

*maybe if we keep repeating the chorus .......

THE HUMAN RACE ~ VARIETY THE SPICE OF LIFE Sep 15, 2007 1:03 am

I love to people watch. When I lived in Portland there were times I had to go downtown to the hubbub of the city. If I had time, I'd sit for a while in a spot where the buses arrived from the outer lying areas of Portland.

There was always someone on a street corner playing a guitar, or flute, and a very well known street preacher usually occupied a corner as well. One of my very first trips downtown I was approached by a Hare Krishna. Back then I was not familiar at all with who they were. I politely gave them some money as a donation, and received a little brochure about their beliefs. Then I went back to my apartment to tell my roomies about these strange looking people I saw.

Another time I was taking the bus home and as it made its way down to the center of the city I was busy watching the people walking the sidewalks. All of a sudden I saw this big tall burly sort of man standing in the middle of the sidewalk with his arms stretched out from his sides, a wild look on his face, his zipper down and his little fella out .. urinating on the sidewalk. People were walking by him looking in every direction but at him. I looked around me on the bus to see if anyone else saw what I did ... no one seemed to be aware. What a sad situation that was.

Then there are the people that strike up conversations with you as you wait for the bus. It's small talk, but friendly.

Everyone going about their own business, lost in thought about the events of their own lives. Young teenagers standing around smoking cigarettes, wearing dark cloths and thick eye make-up. Many of them living on the streets. Seeing that saddened me most. These were just kids, many who were just tossed out on the streets and forced to survive on their own. Drugs slowly sucking the life out of them.

Gosh, not sure what this blog is all about. I'm just typing away with my thoughts.

What started my thoughts on this was from viewing some videos on you tube. One guy had a very creative idea and asked his viewers to respond to him by making a video of them hugging something or someone. Lots of very creative videos and ideas of what to hug, from a cell phone to a clothes rack, to a parakeet and a dog. The most heartwarming though was a video that starts out with this little baby I'd say about one to one half years old. The camera zooms in on his very pouty face and he is on the verge of crying. His Mom then says something that makes him smile this oh so sweet smile and she hands him a couple of stuffed teddy bears. He then sits there hugging those little bears tightly to his chest and giggling and smiling big.

I think if we did more hugging this world would be such a happier place, don't you?

I know this blog kind of goes all over the place, but my gosh, what do you expect .... It's 1:00 a.m. in the morning and I should be in bed!
