Love come softly, brush against my heart
Yearning for its closeness, not ever to depart
In God’s Infinite Wisdom, I place my life,
And trust for tomorrow, what be, what might
Whatever path this love may go
It carries with it the willingness,
to let it go
And hope that one day, it will again, brush against my heart ....
To stay forever.

I really liked the idea some had of posting several pictures of themselves through the years.

I know we can't go back ~ but I sure wish I had the shape now that I had back when this was taken. I'll probably never get it back ~ but I'll do my best to get close to it! LOL

This was taken in 1971 I believe. It was my first time ever going to a photo studio to have a picture taken.

Those years were so innocent, even though I was doing my fair share of partying. We were wild and crazy gals!

My house mates, Sue & Vic, and I were spending our time going out 2-3 times a week to the night clubs and dancing up a storm! There was always dimer night and then of course, the weekends. Its amazing I even made it to work!

It was all fun, and I wouldn't change any of the memories, even the not so good ones.

THOSE WERE THE DAYS MY FRIEND ~ AN SFF PHOTO GALLERY Apr 25, 2008 6:24 am

Okay, here we are! I'm excited about this. A couple of people have already posted their own blogs with their pictures and I will provide a link to those in a comment below this blog.

This is my Senior High School picture, taken in 1968.

I did a search last night and found the following poem that I liked and thought I would include. It was written by a man named Albert Huffstickler on his 69th birthday - Dec 17, 1996

Don't Ask The Angels How They Fly

Knowing there's only so much time,
I don't rejoice less but more.
Knowing how many things will now
not happen, I wish them Godspeed
and pass them on to someone
down the line. I honor my
regrets, the part of me that
never happened or happened wrong
and proceed on course though
the course is not known. Only
the end is known and some days
it's a comfort. We live on
love, whether it's there or
not and rejoice in it even in
its absence. If I had known,
I'd have come here better equipped -
but that's another one of those
things you can't change - as we
can't alter that part of us
that lives on memory, knowing
all the while that time is not
real and that what we are we
never were in the light of that
timeless place where we really
belong, have belonged always.
And what's left then is only
to bless it all in the light of
what we don't and will never
know or at least not here where
the light is only a shadow of
that light we almost see sometimes -
that light that's really home.

I thought I'd do one more reminder about tomorrow's photo day, and provide some instructions about posting for anyone that might need to know.

If you have a photo of you from at least 25-30 years ago, tomorrow is the day we are going to post them.

I plan on posting my senior high school picture.

Come on and join the fun.

I will post a blog tomorrow morning (PST) and invite everyone to post their picture on my blog.

How to post your picture in the comments section of a blog:
(this can be done only if you have uploaded the picture into your profile and it has been approved.) This is my preferred suggestion. Your current photo on your profile will remain the same, and what the reader will see is the older picture embedded in the comment box. So, your current photo will still be at the left of the comment box, and your older photo will be included in the comment box.

In the comment box, to post the photo:

1. Go to the photo edit section on your home page to see what number has been assigned to your old photo.
2. In the comment box, in brackets [ ] you will then type the word photo, then the number of the photo, space once and then type in your handle. Sample: photo3 Ola2006 .... remember, it will be in brackets.

I will do a sample of what it should look like in a comment below.

Another way would be to post your own blog, if you were not able to upload a photo in time to post it on my blog. In the text box of your blog, you want to type, again in brackets, [ ] the word: image. Then at the bottom of your blog, click on the browse key and it will take you to your own pc files where you can click on the picture and it will upload from your files into the text box.

Gold and Silver members may know of an easier way to post the photo in my blog, and if so, I welcome your input here.

See you tomorrow!

P.S. On another note. Be sure and read SassySouthernGirls continuing saga Let's Write....The Saga of Senior Friend Finder Quite a story has developed, and the more the merrier I say!

HOOKA TOOKA Apr 23, 2008 3:51 pm

I am listening to some music I put together on my space account and the following song just played. It's by Chubby Checkers, remember him? I learned how to do the twist to his music.

I thought this song was fun to sing and went to look up the lyrics .... they don't make a lot of sense, except that we say "hooka tooka soda cracker if our mama chaws tobacca"

It got me to thinking how much fun it would be to have a good old song fest and sing nothing but songs that were silly, funny and nonsensical ... like the "One Eyed, One Horned, Purple People Eaters" Now, tell me, have you ever seen a purple person?

I use to sing all the time and I miss it. I don't mean for this to sound "whoa is me" because I don't feel that, but I just haven't had that much reason to sing for sometime. I use to even sing "Oh What a Beautiful Morning" while walking to catch the bus for work! About the only time I really do sing is during worship time at church.

I miss getting together with my friends and my brother. The guitars were brought out, and we sat around and sang, harmonizing to songs like "Michael Row the Boat" and "House of the Rising Sun" and seemed to always end our time together singing "Amazing Grace."

I hope the Lord leads me to a man who loves music as I do. Someone who likes to sing, even while driving down the road.

~~~~~~~~~
So, here's the words to Hooka Tooka.
Hooka Tooka my soda cracker
Does your momma chaw tobacca
If ya momma chaw tobacca,say
Hooka Tooka my soda cracker
Hooka Tooka my soda cracker
Does your momma chaw tobacca
If ya momma chaw tobacca,say
Hooka Tooka my soda cracker
Who your love, Who your love I say
You know I love my mother-in-law
If your love momma like you say
Why can't momma chaw
Everybody yup
Hooka Tooka my soda cracker
Does your momma chaw tobacca
If ya momma chaw tobacca,say
Hooka Tooka my soda cracker
Momma loves momma loves you all
And you know I'm her son-in-law
If you love me like you say you do
Chaw tobacca too
Hey Ar
Hooka Tooka my soda cracker
Does your momma chaw tobacca
If ya momma chaw tobacca,say
Hooka Tooka my soda cracker
Hooka Tooka my soda cracker
Hooka Tooka my soda cracker...
Good Morning!
I hope everyone is doing fine, having a good day so far and looking forward to what is ahead.
I got a call last night from a friend. She and her husband are driving through Redding today on their way up north. It will be great to see them. They are driving their motor home and will be staying at camp grounds near by. I'll drive on out and sit around the camp stove with them for the evening.
I want to remind you all to GET YOUR PICTURES APPROVED and ready to post this Friday. Please see my blog OKAY ~ HERE'S SOMETHING FUN WE CAN DO for details. I will post a blog early Friday morning (PST) and you all come and visit!
PEACE Apr 22, 2008 5:19 pm
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
when there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
Grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand,
to be loved as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying [to ourselves] that we are born to eternal life.
MY BALCONY PEOPLE Apr 21, 2008 2:06 pm
1549 Views
Years ago I read a book written by Joyce Landorff called Balcony People. In a nutshell, the "balcony people" in our lives are those who cheer us on. Those who give us the "atta girl/boy" and pats on the back. Those who give us encouragement to keep going when it seems so difficult to continue. We all need balcony people in our lives. Those who stand up and applaud and say "I knew you could do it" ..... or lift you up when you fall and say "come on, you can do it, I have faith in you."
So, today I want to thank those of you here on SFF who are my balcony people. There are so many of you that I am afraid if I were to list by name, I might miss some. You know who you are. It's not just the comments you leave on my blogs, but the comments you consistently leave on others as well. The blogs that you write that make us laugh. The blogs that encourage us to have some fun and be silly here once in a while. The blogs where you share your strengths and your weaknesses, letting us know that we do not stand alone.
As Robrenee commented not too long ago, I also feel balcony people here in SFF are bloggers that we can "feel safe with." Those that we feel secure in the sincerity of what they write, and the acceptance of the comments we may leave in response to what they write, even if it is expressing an opposing view.
Thank you for being my balcony people, I am blessed because of you.
How about you? Who are your balcony people?
~Karen
p.s. Don't forget to get that photo approved so you can be ready on Friday to post it. Please see my blog OKAY ~ HERE'S SOMETHING FUN WE CAN DO for the details.
OKAY ~ HERE'S SOMETHING FUN WE CAN DO Apr 20, 2008 8:01 pm
I just saw a picture of bluedarlin on someone's blog. It was obviously taken when she was a younger woman, just by the look of the picture and the style of her hair. Very cute picture too.
Anyway, how about we share pictures of ourselves back from when we was young'uns. I know SFF won't approve little kiddie picture, but hopefully as far back as a high school pic? Let's post them this next Friday, April 25th. That gives you all plenty of time to dig into your box of pictures, scan one, and get it approved by SFF for posting. It doesn't have to be a high school pic, but try to post one at least 25-30 years old or more. Then, on Friday you can choose a couple of ways to post it.
1) Write your own blog, with your picture.
2) For those of you who do not have a blog, (or don't want to write one), you can leave a comment on my blog.
How does that sound?
I will be posting my senior high picture.
I hope we don't have a problem with approvals, but if that is the case, I will be uploading mine as an image in my blog text. That still might not be approved, but I'll try. Otherwise, I'll pick something a little older.
Also, for those of you who have silouette's as your profile picture and do not want to post any actual picture.... I have no problem with you being creative with something else. Just try and keep it in line with the theme if you can.
Let's have some fun.
IS IT FOR REAL? Apr 20, 2008 2:41 pm
I joined a friend and his four year old grandson yesterday and saw the movie, "Horton Hears A Who." What a delightful movie. I think I laughed more than little Ebin did! I know the movie is entertaining for young kids with all the colors and storyline, but I saw things in it that would, I'm sure, just pass over their little heads. I loved the characters, and the personalities of them. The facial expressions, and reactions were very humorous and, of course, human in nature. If you want to go see a light-hearted, entertaining movie that gives you some good feelings, go see it.
I also saw another good movie a couple of days before, coincidently starring Jim Carrey, who was also the voice for Horton in the movie. It was called "The Truman Show." If you haven't seen it, it is the story of a man who apparently was adopted at birth by a TV station and his whole life has been lived out for public view. He is totally unaware of this until he decides to try and find a woman that he fell in love with, who wasn't written in the script (at least not the way the producers planned it.) It was an entertaining movie.
So, this brings me to the heart of this blog. In "Horton Hears a Who" it was about Horton discovering a town of little "people" living on a speck of dust. In "The Truman Show" it was about a persons life being observed by millions of people 24/7.
Do you ever wonder if your life is under scrutiny? Oh, yes ... there is a God, but I'm talking about living on that speck of dust and what lies beyond it. Do you ever wonder if the existence you live in is not the actual thing?
No, I haven't been smoking any of that mary-gee-wauna.
I have a memory of when I was about three years old. I had been running to catch up with my older brother and a neighbor friend when I tripped and fell, hurting myself. I sat there crying for what seemed to be the longest time (in my memory). My brother didn't come back to see if I was okay, so I sat there all alone until I quit hurting. For years after that incident, I would imagine that I was still sitting there on the hard dirt ground crying, and all that I had lived so far was just a dream. Weird, huh? Maybe I'm still living in that dream. Maybe I'm still sitting there holding my knee, crying and hoping my mother will come soon to kiss my oweey and make it all better.
