Love come softly, brush against my heart
Yearning for its closeness, not ever to depart
In God’s Infinite Wisdom, I place my life,
And trust for tomorrow, what be, what might
Whatever path this love may go
It carries with it the willingness,
to let it go
And hope that one day, it will again, brush against my heart ....
To stay forever.

NEWS FROM OUR FRIEND THE HAG Jun 21, 2008 11:12 am
1248 Views
I just got off the phone with Elsie (TheHag) and told her that I would come on line here and do a blog for her.

She is doing great, and finally settling back in comfortably in Tennessee. For any of you who have her email address, apparently it is not up and running at this time. She doesn't get to the library very often and it was suspended due to lack of activity. She is keeping pretty busy with her work, and with all the other family activities going on in the home.

She wanted me to tell all her friends hello.

ALL RIGHT, WHERE DID YOU HIDE IT? Jun 20, 2008 7:52 am

Thursday, that is.

I looked at the calendar this morning and I couldn't figure out what day it was. Yesterday I was thinking it was Wednesday, all day, so naturally today is suppose to be Thursday, right?

I hate that confused feeling, and even looking at the calendar didn't shake loose what day it was. I ended up having to go to my word program and click on the menu bar where it says "date" to find out that it was Friday!

So, now I have to rush around and make up for losing Thursday. First off is a trip to the laundry room. I'm leaving to do that now while its still cool out. Nothing like sweating around a bunch of dryers in high 90 degree weather.

I also need to get me a strong cup of coffee. I think I'll treat myself to a "Red Eye" this morning. I need the extra boost.

Have a great Friday everyone!

REMEMBERING BOZOOKA BUBBLEGUM Jun 19, 2008 6:53 pm

Something triggered my memory a little bit ago about bazooka gum, and I decided to gaggle it and see if the stuff was still around. It is, of course (why I even questioned if it was is rather silly of me.) They even have a bazooka song that you can find if you go to the well known video sight and do a search under the name.

Bazooka gum was first marketed shortly after WWII in the U.S. and in 1953 the packaging was changed to include a small comic strip featuring "Bazooka Joe." Remember?

I remember stuffing the bubblegum in my mouth and chewing the stiffness out of it while reading the little comic strip. I would read it out loud to anyone within hearing distance and slurp to try and keep the juices from trickling down my chin.

Back then it only cost a penny, I wonder what it cost now? Do they even have penny candy anymore?

In the small town where I grew up, we had one little grocery store. Back then it was called "Gadwood's." It was a pretty old building back then in the 50's, with wood plank floors that creaked and slanted unevenly throughout the store.

Mr. Gadwood had a lot of penny candy, and we were always stopping to buy a few penny's worth on our way home from school. I also liked to get the big red waxed lips that had the sweet water inside. (I started to say "juice" but I'm pretty sure it was just colored water with a little sugar in it.) LOL

I can think of a lot of other penny candy I use to get, but I'll leave it up to you guys to share your favorites.

DO YOU HAVE A "SPECIAL" TALENT? Jun 17, 2008 11:04 pm

I watched some of "America's Got Talent" tonight. It was mostly full of the fumble bumble's, and even the ones that were pushed on through to the next round were a little questionable to me, but they didn't ask me, so ...

I always have wondered if I could have made a career in the music field if I had done some serious voice training. I have a nice voice, but far from professional. I've always enjoyed singing.

However, the one talent I am most proud of is that I can cross my left eye while my right eye remains looking forward.

I tried to take a picture to show you, but I scared myself just looking at it.

So, do you have a talent? Anything you want to share with me?

THE SAGA CONTINUES ...... Jun 16, 2008 5:50 pm

I was over checking out The Saga of Reluctant Suitor (or why can’t I find a Mate?) and it looks like we are not getting enough entries to this ongoing saga. It looks like DanDee has now promoted help from Gets, DenverColorado and TennisBud (I'm not sure they know this yet?) and they are going to build a "utopian xanadu" where the SFF women will be pampered and worshiped 24/7. ( ooooh I like that idea )

Check it out by clicking on the link above, and help build this xanadu.

MY FATHER'S DAY TRIBUTE Jun 15, 2008 8:12 am
674 Views
In honor of my Dad, I'd like to share the following repost. Happy Fathers Day to all the fathers here on SFF.
~~~~~~~
[image]
This is a 3-generation picture taken in the early 80's. My Dad is the man behind pushing my brother and his son in a little floating chair in the pool. I believe this was taken on a Father's Day BBQ we had at my older brothers place. The littlest boy (my nephew) now a father himself of two small boys. God is good!
ANOTHER WAY TO SAY I LOVE YOU
He was a strong, solid rock in my life. There was never a time I didn’t feel safe and secure with him. Although he treated me no different than he did my two brothers, being his only daughter, I know I had a special place in his heart.
My Dad was a woodsman, deep in the core of his very being I think, and I feel it is from him that I get my appreciation and love for the beauty and grandeur of trees. It was his livelihood, falling trees, up until his health no longer allowed him to. In his later years he took on carpentry work as a main source of income. However, he continued to work in the woods when the need arose, whether it was to get wood to stoke his own home fires, or supply the winter fuel for a list of people who had depended on him for years to deliver good wood at a fair price. He was skilled with being able to fall or top a tree to the exact precise place it needed to fall, amidst the worried look of a home owner who just knew he would miscalculate and the tree would go down on their house instead.
My Dad was a fair man. He wouldn’t expect anything less or more than what he would demand or expect of himself.
My Dad was an honorable man. He treated others with respect and received respect in return. He lived his life as best he could, principled and with strong character.
My Dad was a quiet man, not much for light conversation, but always enjoyed a good serious discussion on things he felt deeply about.
My Dad was a spiritual man. He loved God, and he knew his life was safe in the promises that Jesus gave. Through many years of questioning and searching I know that he found the Peace that passes all understanding. Though people may have failed him, God never did.
My Dad was a loving man, although saying “I love you” was not a part of his vocabulary. I never heard him speak those exact words to me. Sometimes I feel sad that he wasn’t able to. I would have loved to hear them. We had a serious talk one time about it and he admitted to me that it was difficult for him. Not that he didn’t feel it, it just was hard for him to verbally express it. In spite of that, I never once had any doubt or felt insecure about his love. One of my most precious memories occurred during a very difficult time of his life, when he began a spiraling descent from the realities of this world at the mercy of Alzheimer’s disease. As always, when I would be saying my good-byes to him, I usually would end it with an “I love you”. Being uncomfortable with returning the endearment, he would usually hem and haw, hug me and say good-by. This one particular time I had been talking to him on the phone and as we were saying our good-byes, I once again said “I Love You.” In his usual way, he began to hem and haw and then to my surprise instead of just saying good-by, he said “visa versa”. I wrapped those two words around my heart and cherish the warmth and meaning of them to this very day.
TRUTH OR FICTION Jun 12, 2008 6:32 pm
I am in a real preachy mood. That is a capital "P" not "B." So, let me get up on my soapbox here, and you all find a comfortable place to sit. I've provided some iced tea and cookies, so please help yourself.
Let me clarify that what I am going to preach about is not the specific content of an email I received, but the type of email it turned out to be. It was sent to me by a person just as innocent in forwarding to me, as I was in forwarding it on.
What was the email you say? Well, it was one of those digitally manipulated photos that told a story, claiming to be true, and it wasn't. The photo looked real .... and scary at that. Two scuba divers are floating around underwater, smiling and waving at the camera, and looming, grossly huge behind them is a shark.
I have always been an advocate for checking the facts before forwarding emails that lay claim to being true. I didn't do that this time, and I should have. It doesn't matter if it is a harmless photo of vacationers almost being swallowed by a giant shark, or a photo of Obama talking on the phone with the mouthpiece to his ear. (I am not an Obama supporter, but I defend his right to be portrayed in a truthful manner.)
This is why I believe it is important to check the facts before forwarding on. You may ask "what is the harm?" .... I suppose in many cases, none. Except it is a complete lie being past along as a truth, and if we get lazy about checking out what is true, we may one day find ourselves believing more lies than truths.
People have been telling "little white lies" (and big fat ones too) since the beginning of time. However, with the internet, I believe it has opened up a BIG Pandora's Box. It's not just the emails that circulate about abducted children, political gossip and pictures of sharks leaping towards helicopters. It's also the chat rooms and blogs in the web sites we visit. We have to be very careful about what information we believe, that is passed on to us in this arena. I strongly believe that the vast majority of us are truthful people, and would never consider spreading rumors, or being fictitious about ourselves. However, there are those that will, and we need to be on our guard, and pay close attention.
Many people on this site have set themselves up with multiple handles and I am sure most are set up innocently for one reason or another, and not to deceive others. However, when you think about it, if its kept a secret, it is being deceitful. An omission of truth. So, because of that, I am admitting to you all today that I have a second handle on this site. I don't use it much, in fact very rarely. My reasons for creating it were not completely without deceit in mind. Not a very nice thing for me to do, is it? I'm not as nice as some of you may think. See? That other handle is "AKissingBandit" I also thought I'd have fun with it, and go around and kiss all the guys, and they wouldn't have a clue who I was! LOL Now that the truth is out .... I still may do it.
And, while I'm on the subject of emails. Do you ever wonder why so many of them sound the same? The subject matter may be different, but the general wording is the same across the board. Where do you think these emails originate from? They come from companies that hire people to write them and then mass mail. Embedded in them is spy ware. I wish I knew more about how it worked. Also, when email like that is forwarded on, many that I get have all the email addressee history still intact ... ready for anyone to take and use for spam. We need to start being more responsible about what we forward on. Clean it up before you pass it on again. Get rid of any other email addressees. Blind copy to everyone you send out to so that their addresses will remain private.
Okay, that's all I have to say on the subject right now. Please pass the tea and cookies.
AND WHO DO YOU LOOK LIKE? Jun 8, 2008 11:07 pm
There is a profile that keeps popping up on my home page of a man who closely resembles Captain Kirk of the Starship Enterprise (William Shatner). I'd post his picture, but don't feel comfortable about doing that without his permission, since I don't know him.
It got me to thinking. You know they say we have a double out there somewhere. I think I may have three or four. On several ocassions through the years, I've had a person greet me in such a friendly way that I figured "they must think I'm someone they know." I just smile and say hello. One time my brother and SIL saw a woman in a restaurant that they almost walked up to because they thought she was me. When I heard about it later on, I asked them why they didn't approach her and get a phone number. I would have liked to meet this person that was suppose to look so much like me that we could have been twins.
When I was in my mid 20's I visited a girlfriend and her husband while they were living in Alaska. His parents were living next door to them and when we met they just went on and on about how much I looked like Rue McClanahan, from the Golden Girls! I never could see it.
I'm sitting here now, thinking of some of you here in SFF and wondering if you have ever been told that you look like a celebrity. Or, even better, have you met someone, unrelated, that could have been your twin?
"MARRIED, LOOKING FOR LTR WITH BENEFITS" Jun 7, 2008 10:37 pm
What? How can anyone with any crack of sense believe that an adulteress relationship would not change their life?
I just read a profile where the guy states he is married, he loves to hug and kiss, and is passionate. He is looking for a LTR with benefits, but he does not want to change his life.
My mother always told me, "you play with fire, you're gonna get burned". Sometimes I get very disheartened at what I read on this site.
I guess we could give the guy one brownie point for at least being up front about being married.
I suppose if two people of like mind began a relationship that was strictly uncommitted, emotionally detached, and non-obligatory, they might make a go of it. However, I really don't believe that it is possible. One or the other usually gets hurt in the end.
JMHO.
A NEW FEATURE ON SFF Jun 5, 2008 3:56 pm
I was on my home page and was looking at the guys that were currently on line. One caught my curiosity so I went to lick* on the little i by his photo and voila up popped up this little synopsis of the guys profile.
This is really great, and I hope SFF continues to make this available for standard members. I couldn't view the "view more" link, but what information is listed at least gives me enough information to know whether it might be worth using up some points to view the guys full profile.
So, how is your week going? Mine has been good .... just getting things on my "to do list" done, which always makes me feel good.
I had a positive (or negative depending on how you look at it) weigh-in on Monday. I am coming up on a year since joining Weight Watchers and I am working very diligently to reach a certain goal by July 1st. I'll most likely blog something about it ... naturally. You all are such great supporters and encourager's.
The tide still seems to be out .... still a little blog dry.
I'm looking forward to a great weekend, hope you are too!
~Karen
*oops I meant to type click, but I'm going to leave the typo as is because it made me laugh, hope it does you too! I do want to clarify though that I don't make a habit of licking the pictures on my computer screen!
