Celebrating 90th Birthdays Aug 26, 2008 9:44 pm

I'm in Michigan to help celebrate birthdays. Let's see...mom 90 years old 8/25, dad 90 years old 8/5, daughter 40 years old 8/26, sister in law 53 years old 8/26. This has been a week long and fun birthday party!!

A couple of nights ago, my sister, brother, my daughter and all their families surprised my parents by showing up at their senior home to have dinner with them in the main dining room. There were 14 of us singing Happy Birthday and putting the frosting on our noses! Everyone was giggling, laughing and having a good time. I think we gave my parents bragging rights for the next 5 years! We told them if they are still around when they are 95 we will surprise them again for dinner.

On Sunday we invited all the relatives and their friends to an open house at my brothers. There were 70 people who stopped in to wish them a Happy Birthday. We had 4 generations here at the same time and got some great family pictures. Mom and dad were just beaming. My mom said that she was so tired on Sunday night but it was a good happy tired. She doesn't smile easily but she has been since Sunday.

Mom doesn't get around very easily so I went clothes shopping for her today and made a hit with some new clothes for her birthday.

They are doing so amazingly well for a pair of 90 year olds. I have to be so thankful for some good genes! At least I hope I got them!

And after all this, I just can't believe I have a 40 year old daughter!

This has been a good trip and after a week here, I am ready to get back home to Oregon!

A Dog Jul 29, 2008 7:38 pm

Three handsome male dogs are walking down the street when they see a beautiful, enticing, female Poodle.

The three male dogs fall all over themselves in an effort to be the one to reach her first, but end up arriving in front of her at the same time. The males are speechless before her beauty, slobbering on themselves and hoping for just a glance from her in return.

Aware of her charms and her obvious effect on the three suitors, she decides to be kind and tells them, 'The first one who can use the words 'liver' and 'cheese' together in an imaginative, intelligent sentence can go out with me.'

The sturdy, muscular black Lab speaks up quickly and says, 'I love liver and cheese.'

'Oh, how childish,' said the Poodle. 'That shows no imagination or intelligence whatsoever.'

She turns to the tall, shiny Golden Retriever and says 'How well can you do?'

'Um. I HATE liver and cheese,' blurts the Golden Retriever.

'My, my,' said the Poodle. 'I guess it's hopeless. That's just as dumb as the Lab's sentence.'

She then turns to the last of the three dogs and says, 'How about you, little guy?'

The last of the three, tiny in stature but big in fame and finesse, is the Taco Bell Chihuahua.

He gives her a smile, a sly wink, turns to the Golden Retriever and the Lab and says....

Liver alone. Cheese mine.

Hey!

I won a gas BBQ and have no idea how to use it. It's my very first gas BBQ. SO, you are invited to my BBQ on Sunday at 3 PM at my house....in the back yard, of course!! You'll have to teach me how to use it though. I'll have the hot dogs, you bring a dish to share. What dish are you bringing?

Work like you don't need the money. Love like you've never been hurt. Dance like nobody is watching. Sing like nobody is listening. Live like it is heaven on earth. (William Purkey)

My new friend and I went to the Salem Art Fair and he bought a magnet that has this saying on it. He forgot to take it with him so I have it and am enjoying it! While I've seen it before, I still like it. It's still meaningful.

Do you have a favorite saying that you would share? One that motivates you, that speaks to your soul?

Oregon Country Fair, A Fair for Hippies Jul 13, 2008 11:02 pm

Have you ever heard of the Country Fair in Eugene, Oregon? I went there today for the first time. OMG!! Millions of people, miles of booths and stages, tons of dust and 1000 degrees hot!! AND, I'm not exaggerating - much! LOL

This fair has been in existence every year for 39 years. It's a hippie fair! Young and old, Tie die, fairies, elves, jesters, folk music, tarot reading, rock, gurus, poetry, free spirits, costumes, topless men and women, water in cups not plastic bottles, beads, magic, tofu, transcendence, green, veggies, drumming circles. A spectacular spectacle!

I can't believe there were so many people there! I was amazed.

I went with someone from SFF. The fair is not necessarily a good place to get to know someone. It was hard to talk with so much going on. Without going into details, I did know though that the attraction to this man was just not enough to keep me there so I left early. I'm glad I got to experience the Country Fair. Now I can say, "did that" and not have to do it again!

This came to me via email from a friend. Don't know the source but I found it to be pretty funny! Uh huh!

A lot of folks can't understand how we came to have an oil shortage here in our country.
~~~
Well, there's a very simple answer.
~~~
Nobody bothered to check the oil.
~~~
We just didn't know we were getting low.
~~~
The reason for that is purely geographical.
~~~
Our OIL is located in:
~~~
ALASKA
~~~
California
~~~
Coastal Florida
~~~
Coastal Louisiana
~~~
Wyoming
~~~
Utah
~~~
Kansas
~~~
Oklahoma
~~~
Pennsylvania and Texas
~~~
Our dipsticks are located in DC
Any Questions? NO?...Didn't think so.
If Chemistry is not important any more what is? Jun 29, 2008 10:16 pm
I've recently read some blogs that talk about chemistry not being important at our age. Good blog by the way. Sorry, I don't remember whose it was. Anyway, I've been thinking about it.
Chemistry has definitely gotten me into trouble in the past. I totally ignored red flags and ended up in relationships that were not good for me. But doesn't there have to be some chemistry there to spark the desire to even get to know someone? And then I have to ask, if not chemistry what else?
It starts with self awareness, self knowledge of what's important to me and what isn't. It's knowing what are red flags for me and then paying attention to them not to chemistry. That's what's real. A red flag could easily trump chemistry now that I'm more conscious of what those red flags are! And that means I have to consciously pay attention to how I'm being treated, how others are being treated, to words vs behavior, to histories and to my gut.
Is chemistry important to you? Then what? What is more important for you than chemistry?
Thank you everyone for your concern about my doggies. I was worried about them. It hit 105 degrees in the shade here in Salem. We cut our day short in order to get back to the dogs to check on them earlier in the day. They did okay.
When I got in they were panting pretty hard and lapped up a lot of water once they got in the house. I fed them and put extra water in their food then took them for a walk. Gave them some loving and left again for dinner. I just got back and they are napping now.
It was hot! The ice had melted and they were left with hot water to drink. It was stressful on them but they did survive. This summer is not going to be easy on them. I may have to set something up, like a baby gate, in the kitchen for them on very hot days.
Stay cool!
Doggies Need Ice Jun 28, 2008 9:36 am
I am heading out for the day. My daughter and her husband are taking the moms to see Avenue Q today. It was a Mothers Day present. Then the mothers get to buy dinner! Aren't we lucky!!
How fair is that!!!
Anyway, it is a scorcher here this weekend in Oregon. The temperature is supposed to get to 99 today with no breeze at all. I have to leave the doggies outside in the back yard. I have my two and am dog sitting for a friends dog too. I worry about leaving them out in the heat for so long. So, to make myself feel better, I took a fan outside and plugged it in on the back deck, am going to put ice cubes in their water and have a bowl of water freezing in the freezer. I filled up a little swimming pool for them too. Though I don't think they know what to do with it yet. I thought I would throw some greenies in the water for them to fetch or catch later. Well, am I being a little obsessive or what? I'm sorry, I worry about them specially the older dogs. Heat is good but too much is stressful! Okay maybe more on me than them!!
Stay cool!
Yummy Garden! Jun 22, 2008 10:54 am
I have been thinking how wonderful my garden is this year.
The strawberries are full and sweet. I went out this morning picked a handful and threw them in my cereal for breakfast. What a treat. I am beginning to notice that the slugs think they are a treat too though. Have to figure out how to get them before the slugs do!!
Next up will be the blueberries. I have 3 blueberry bushes. There are a couple of blueberries almost ripe right now but most of them are still green. I love blueberries! I eat them by the bowl full like popcorn. Can't wait for them to ripen.
The artichokes are ready now too. There must be a dozen of them on my one plant. I bought this tiny little plant a few years ago having no idea it would get so big and produce so much. It is taking up a huge space in my garden. Had I realized it would be so big, I would have planted it somewhere else. I have cooked 3 artichokes so far and ate them with cranberry horseradish. Delish!
I also have raspberries along a back fence. They are taking over the raised bed! They won't be ready for awhile. There aren't even any blossoms on them yet. I will have to figure out how to reduce their numbers after they bloom this year.
Any ideas?
I like coming home from a long day of work and puttering around in the garden. It's a good way to unwind, it ends up tasting so good and the cost is nice and low!
So what are you growing in your garden that you enjoy?
