I can't believe it, here it is almost 5 o'clock in the morning and I can't get back to sleep. I say BACK to sleep because I was doing fine till my doorbell rang at 2:15 a.m. My first thought was "Dang what the heck is HE doing here"? Well it wasn't HIM (My closest thing to a husband....LO I also thought perhaps I was dreaming and the doorbell didn't really ring. That happens to me sometimes. I live in a very quiet neighborhood for the most part. But there is a major highway, and the only buffer is a small lake/pond. I peeked out and found a (Fortyish) woman standing there. I said,"Yes"???? She said "Do you have a phone"? Again I said "Yes". She said "Can I use it"? to which I replied, "NO, are you ought of your mind, it's 2 in the morning". She said "Ok Ok Ok" and left. I'm wondering 'Why', Why my house. There are other houses, and I didn't have lights on. My house was just as dark as anyone else's. Well I don't have a clue. I just know she didn't look like she was in distress, and I AIN'T LETTING NO ONE IN MY HOUSE AT TWO IN THE MORNING, unless its a booty call. What would YOU do????? Barbara

Some times I wonder if I did the right thing when I left my marriage. Can't help it, I just do. My youngest daughter says "Everyone is Happier now". My middle son says "You should have left a long time ago". My other three haven't said anything. When people ask, and I say I was married for over 40 years, and then got a Divorce, they are astonished. "How could you do that after so many years"? I don't know. I reached a point where it was him or me. I could keep on putting his needs ahead of my own, or start thinking of myself. I did to, I made myself not think about how his life would change if I left. I would have felt sorry for him and went back to doing everything as before. It wasn't that I didn't care, but I just couldn't do it anymore. Now after four years, I could be friends, if he wanted to be. But he doesn't. I miss some of the things that was my life before, but I don't miss him.....Strange huh. Barbara

I made a batch of 'Chile Rellenos' tonight. OMG were they good. I ate two, and I am stuffed. If you've never had one you don't know what you're missing. I know that mine are not 'Traditional' because I had a Friend from Mexico tell me the proper way to make them. Actually he was supposed to come to my house and make them with me so I could learn how. But he disappeared. He was going to a party one night, and come by my house the next day, and POOF he was gone. Since he was Illegal, I can only guess what happened to him. Anyway I'm still making them the way I like them and thats good enough for me. First I Blacken my Poblano peppers, over my little one burner gas stove, and put them inside a plastic bag to sweat. I cook some ground beef, with bell pepper and onions. I add one small can of chopped green chillies, a can of old el paso refried beans, (Or make your own) and about 2 table spoons of taco seasoning. I let it cool and then put it into the food processor. I scrape the black off the peppers, find the thinest side, and split it there to take out the seeds. I rinse them off a bit and lay them on paper towels to dry. I separate 4 or 5 eggs and beat the whites into meringue, before adding the Yolks back and beating till smooth. I cut some pepper jack cheese into strips about 1/4 in square and the length of the peppers. Put the cheese inside the peppers, fill with the beef bean mixture, tooth pick together if needed. Roll the peppers in flour, then dip into the egg mixture and deep fry. When they are browned on all sides drain on paper towels. Place into a baking pan and cover with Green sauce. You can buy it in a can or make your own, I use the canned. cover with plastic wrap and microwave for about 10 minutes. Throw some 3 blend mexican cheese on top and microwave till melted. Any beef bean mixture you have left is good filling for 'Burritos'. uuummm uuummm Good. There goes my diet again. Thought I would trim down some for the St.Pete Bash, but it ain't happening. Barbara

I'm off today..YEAH!!! Actually I'm off 3 days. I haven't had a day off since last Monday. The store where I work, the management team rotates Sundays. This month, Lucky me, I have to work two Sundays. There are four of us, the manager, asst. manager, myself and another woman (we're called Sales Associates). This week was especially hard. One of the cashiers quit without notice. Last wednesday the other Senior Sales associate 'forgot' she had to work and didn't show up. The Asst. Mgr. had to work all day. Saturday one of the Processor's was suppose to come in at nine, she showed up at eleven. Then the other S.S.A. came in at twelve thirty, she was scheduled for ten. Sunday actually went fairly smooth, I opened and closed. The only incident I recall was one cashier showed up in jeans, I let it pass. Mistake, she wore even worse looking jeans again Monday. I spoke to her about it, but since I worked the closing shift, it was the Asst.Mgr.'s duty to send her home if she was out of dress code. Monday, as soon as I clocked in at 11 a.m. the asst. mgr. started getting ready to leave. I asked "where is everyone"? She said "who is everyone, Who's supposed to be here"? I said "I don't know but there's only two people in the store, and one in processing, and if you leave I'm the only one here in management". She gets the schedule to see who hasn't come in. She called the Mgr., to see what she should do. She finally reached one of the 'Back Room Girls', who said she would be there in an hour. Three hours later she showed up. By then it was 2:30, and she only worked till 5:30. When there's only one person in management working we're not allowed to leave the building. Since I didn't know that I was going to be left alone, I didn't carry a lunch. I decided to work in the back room getting merchandise ready to put into the store. We needed to clear out as much as possible because the Floor Cleaners are coming tonight(Tues). The one cashier is angry because she had to come in on her day off, to cover for the one that quit. She's also got an attitude over the Dress Code issue. After all we should be grateful that she came in at all. Meantime the other cashier is busting her hump trying to get everything done, from hanging clothes to mopping up spills, and she's got an attidude too. You know the type "No one ever does anything but ME". My job as acting mgr., is to take care of anything that needs attention, from the cash register's to dealing with delivery's (donations). I get called up front just to tell a customer "I'm sorry sir we can't reduce that item anymore". What I'd like to say is " Sorry Sir if it was any cheaper, we would be paying you to take it". Then I'm called to the back to tell some one "I'm sorry ma'am we don't accept computers/hideabeds/TV's/broken furniture/or beds. Sometimes it seems like I walk a hundred miles a day. This whole three day week-end, at least 75% of our customers were Mexicans. Most of them don't speak english, and they grunt and make gestures to convey what the need.(that's a whole nother blog). They seem to always have large bills. They buy a small item, and hit you with anything from a twenty to a hundred dollar bill. On a Holiday week-end. I don't know which is worse, having someone drop a big bill on you, or standing for 10 minutes while a little old lady counts out all her change and pays you to the penny. I made it through another week...TG.... Barbara

My Daughter sent this to me, and I thouth it was wort passing on....
AFTER BEING MARRIED FOR 40 YEARS, I TOOK A CAREFUL LOOK AT MY WIFE ONE DAY AND SAID, "HONEY, 40 YEARS AGO WE HAD A CHEAP APARTMENT, A CHEAP CAR, SLEPT ON A SOFA BED AND WATCHED A 10-INCH BLACK AND WHITE TV, BUT I GOT TO SLEEP EVERY NIGHT WITH A HOT 20-YEAR-OLD GAL.
NOW I HAVE A $500,000.00 HOME, A $45,000.00 CAR, NICE BIG BED AND PLASMA SCREEN TV; BUT I'M SLEEPING WITH A 60-YEAR-OLD WOMAN. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT YOU'RE NOT HOLDING UP YOUR SIDE OF THINGS."
MY WIFE IS A VERY REASONABLE WOMAN.SHE TOLD ME TO GO OUT AND FIND A HOT 20-YEAR-OLD GAL............ AND SHE WOULD MAKE SURE THAT I WOULD ONCE AGAIN BE LIVING IN A CHEAP APARTMENT, DRIVING A CHEAP CAR, SLEEPING ON A SOFA BED AND WATCHING A 10-INCH BLACK AND WHITE TV.
AREN'T OLDER WOMEN GREAT? THEY REALLY KNOW HOW TO SOLVE YOUR MID-LIFE CRISIS.

Hooked you with that title didn't I ?
Last night I watched a movie named 'Innocence'. I'm not sure what year it came out, but it won awards from five film festivals. It wasn't a mega hit I'm sure, just a plain old fashion Love story, featuring 'senior citizens'...LOL...It jumps back and forth between the couple when they were young, and fifty years later. It was not the best movie I've seen, but it was very interesting. If you get a chance to watch it, do, you won't regret it.....
What Movies have you seen, and would recommend, and why?

I've been Thinking...

I've been thinking, and that's something I probably shouldn't do. Today I went to lunch with a very nice and interesting man. He approached me via e-mail after reading my SFF'S profile. I told him from the beginning that I was seeing someone at this time. Since he lives here in the same town I saw no reason why we shouldn't see if a friendship would evolve. I also told him I would like to bring a Friend along, and that was O-K with him. We had a nice lunch, and wonderful conversation. It was great to talk and laugh with people that have something to say. I felt a little inadequate, since the two of them have traveled so much more than I. But I'm a good listener...LOL. After I got home I was thinking. Why is it that we sit around wishing for someone to come along and sweep us off our feet like we're 20 yrs old again. It's different when you're just starting out. You have plans for a family and all that goes with it. It's not the same when you reach our age. True enough there are a lot of sick'o's out there and you have to be careful. But there are a lot of NICE people too. Say for instance we would like to travel, but can't manage it alone. There's someone out there that also wants to travel. What would be wrong with taking a trip together? DO WE ALWAYS HAVE TO BE IN LOVE? At Our age who cares? Is it because we worry about what people think of us? Not me I stopped caring about that a LONG time ago. There have been many times I wanted to do things and didn't because I had no one to accompany me. I know I'm not the only one, there are a lot of us. It really doesn't matter if you travel with someone of the opposite sex, or same sex. Personally I prefer opposite sex. I wouldn't have a problem sharing 'living quarters' with a male friend. The man in my life right now is a little bit younger than me and is still working. He doesn't have time to travel, or go out very often. I work full time to, I'm just thinking about in the future. I'm curious how others feel about this.

The Seniors Breakfast Special
I went to breakfast at a restaurant where the "seniors' special" was two eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast for $1.99.
"Sounds good," I said. "But I don't want the eggs."
"Then I'll have to charge you two dollars and forty-nine cents because you're ordering a la carte," the waitress warned.
"You mean I'd have to pay for not taking the eggs?" I asked.
"YES!!" stated the waitress.
"I'll take the special then." I said.
"How do you want your eggs?" the waitress asked.
"Raw and in the shell," I replied.
I took the two eggs home.
DON'T MESS WITH SENIORS!!! We've been around the block more than once

Well not really,,,LOL. I read it on a T-Shirt. It said something about being in Hawaii.
I Love T-Shirts with sayings on them. I don't have a clue why, I just do. I Love to read Bumper Stickers too. When My Niece was young we used to go on long drives together and read bumper stickers, business names, homemade road signs, anything we saw usually called for a comment or kept us laughing until we spotted the next one. We still bring some of them up in conversation. I have some real doozies, and I wear them when I'm hanging out. I guess I'm an exhibitionist, I have no problem sticking my 'chest' out so someone can read my shirt. Childish? Maybe, but I have one that says, "Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional". How about you, do you wear or read T-Shirts? If so tell us your favorite.... Barbara
