Update on daughter Dec 1, 2007 7:54 am
454 Views
Many of you dear friends and prayer warriors will remember my plea for prayers for my daughter about 6 months ago. At that time the doctors had tentatively diagnosed MS.

Update: She does not have MS! Praise God. The brain lesions they were seeing on the MRI’s have disappeared….The doctors are baffled, but we know!!!!! All of her symptoms they have now attributed to stress. They told her she needed to simplify her life, do whatever it took to stop the stress. I am soooo proud of her….she made the decision to close her business, she has owned for 7 years, while it was very successful and go to work for someone else. Yesterday was the final day. I showed up late afternoon and we celebrated her new beginnings with a party! Hopefully she will have regular hours (whatever that means), insurance, vacation and sick time and don’t forget holidays.

The down side: we are going to sell our dream home, relocate to another city and start all over. But, you know what, it is just a house!!!!!!!

We decided to combine forces several years ago when I was going to be traveling most of the time. She is divorced, no children and of course I am widowed, so there was no reason it wouldn’t work. It has worked beautifully. Whoever found someone had the option to buy the other out or sell out and move on. We will do this again since it has worked so well.

Now I have to be up and dressed, the house vacuumed and dusted, floors mopped, and bathrooms cleaned by 9am. I am a night owl and this is about to kill me. LOL

The doggies have been in doggie day care everyday so the realtors don’t have to deal with the “boys”. Please pray that the house sells before I have to do deep cleaning again. Grin

Thank you for your prayers, love, support and concern. We WILL be fine.

Hugs

Santa for the children Nov 26, 2007 2:52 pm

When we lived in Charlottesville, Virginia, I use to drive 65 miles one way to take the children to Thalhimer's in Richmond. They had the best Santa....he had been doing it for them many years....the hair and beard were his...Suit custom fit. Even genuine leather boots.

You could have lunch/snack with him at different times during the day. We waited several hours for the children to talk to him. It was worth it.

They were quite sophisticated considering this was over 40 years ago. The elves were wired so Santa called each child by name when they started up to see him.

My children still remember him and wish more looked real than like someone just filling the suit.

I bet DanDee was a good Santa.

A standard member can only reply to a certain number of emails in a 24 hour period.
Does the 24 hours run from 12:01 am to 12:01 am the next day, or 24 hours from the last email?

Think this is why so many use IM's?

Globalization........................c&p Nov 17, 2007 4:55 pm

Finally, a definition of globalization I can understand and to which I can relate

Question: What is the truest definition of Globalization?

Answer: Princess
Diana's death

Question: How come?

Answer:
An English princess with

an Egyptian boyfriend

crashes in a French

tunnel, driving a

German car

with a Dutch engine,

driven by a Belgian

who was drunk

on Scottish whisky,

(check the bottle before you change the spelling),

followed closely by

Italian Paparazzi,

on Japanese motorcycles;

treated by an American doctor, using

Brazilian medicines.

This is sent to you by

an American,

using Bill Gates's technology,

and you're probably reading this on your computer,

that uses Taiwanese

chips, and a

Korean monitor,

assembled by

Bangladeshi workers

in a Singapore plant,

transported by Indian
lorry-drivers,

hijacked by Indonesians,

unloaded by Sicilian longshoremen,

and trucked to you by Mexican illegals....

That, my friends, is Globalization!

Many Ways They Can Still Fool You... Nov 15, 2007 8:43 pm
625 Views
Recently BarbieRocks asked us our thoughts about someone she believed she was close to, that she though might possibly lead to a more serious relationship. Without copying all the responses to show here, it seemed to me that most (including me) felt this person was married and/or leading her on.

Several people mentioned checking out someone, especially those you meet online, to make sure they were genuine. Let me just tell you, if someone wants to fool you they can do it. The majority of us are very sincere, honest people and can’t even imagine all the scams/schemes that can be perpetrated on us. My mother always said she didn’t know if I was dumb or naïve when it came to men, but that either way, I was in deep trouble.

I met a California "Christian" gentleman, RD, on AOL in one of their Christian Chat Rooms. We chatted, emailed; im’d, snail mailed and after a suitable time exchanged phone numbers. The home number turned out to be in his home office and his wife never answered his business phone. I didn’t even know the wife existed. This went on for TWO years. You would have thought by that time if he wasn’t as presented it would have outted. How in the world can someone lie and keep it all straight that long, but he did!!!

He told me the name of the church he attended, the pastor’s name and that he sang in the choir. I checked online and found that church with that pastor did exist. So I accepted it.
He started giving me names, addresses and telephone numbers of family and friends all over the country, with long explanations as to who they were and relationship to him.
I again checked on the Internet and found these people were listed in the white pages, as you would expect. I didn’t call any of them, why would I. How else would he have these names and addresses, why would he lie??? He had several addresses, none in the phone book. One was his home and the other his office number. The office number was changed and that is why it didn’t show. All the mail I received had either home or business address. I would send my letters to the same addresses, nothing was ever returned so it must be right, right. WRONG! He had rented post office boxes in two different cities about 15 miles apart; One for the home address and another for the business. These were rented through mailbox-etc., or something like that so he used their street address, and the staff put in his box without the box number. I didn’t know. Unknown to me, he printed all his own business cards, stationary, i.e. letterhead and envelopes.

After two years of changed plans and no visits we finally met at my sons in Atlanta. Several things didn’t seem quite right, but I chalked it up to nervousness. I’m naïve remember. He asked me to marry him, had mail forwarded from one of the addresses and was to return at Thanksgiving. His plans changed and he couldn’t come then, next it was to be Christmas, then New Years and finally Valentines Day. Then he made his BIG mistake. He sent me flowers, said he was sorry he couldn’t be with me, but he was in the hospital because he had a wreck on the way to the airport to fly out to see me. I immediately called the California Highway Patrol in his area to find out which hospital they had taken him to and was told there were NO wrecks on that stretch of highway that day. Hmmmmmmmmm, that started me to checking. It turned out all the names, addresses, etc that he gave me were indeed genuine….the problem, when I called them, they had never heard of him. He pulled their names from the same resource I used to validate them. Once I started to check I discovered he had an ex-wife (the first one and the mother of his children) and she was only too willing to tell me about him. He had been married at least 6 times and didn’t always divorce. Seems he thought polygamy was fine. She also gave me his correct home address, his correct phone number, and his wife’s name. Suffice it to say when I finished speaking with him I left no doubt as to what I thought of him and what he could do with himself.

Some men are exceptions to this...not many...but some...c&p Nov 15, 2007 6:45 pm

OK, there are some men who are exceptions to this. Not many, but some.

Women are like apples on trees. The best ones are at the top of the tree. Most men don't want to reach for the good ones because they are afraid of falling and getting hurt. Instead, they often take the apples from the ground that aren't as good, but easy. The apples at the top think something is wrong with them, when in reality, they're amazing. They just have to wait for the right man to come along, the one who is brave enough to climb all the way to the top of the tree.

Now Men.... Men are like a fine wine. They begin as grapes, and it's up to women to stomp the living crap out of them until they turn into something acceptable to have dinner with.

UNDERSTANDING ENGINEERS c&p Nov 7, 2007 9:59 pm

Understanding Engineers- Lesson One

Two engineering students were biking across a university campus when one said, "Where did you get such a great bike?"
The second engineer replied, "Well, I was walking along yesterday, minding my own business, when a beautiful woman rode up on this bike, threw it on the ground, took off her clothes and said, "Take what you want."
The second engineer nodded approvingly and said, "Good choice; the clothes probably wouldn't have fit you anyways."
-----------------------------------------------------
Understanding Engineers-Lesson Two

To the optimist, the glass is half full.
To the pessimist, the glass is half empty.
To the engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.
--------------------------------------------------
Understanding Engineers- Lesson Three

A priest, a doctor and an engineer were waiting one morning for a particularly slow group of golfers.
The engineer fumed, "What's with those guys? We've been waiting 15 minutes!" The doctor chimed in, "I don't know, but I've never seen such inept golfers!"
The priest said, "Here comes the greens keeper, let's ask him."
He said, "Hello, George! What's wrong with the group ahead of us? They're rather slow aren't they?"
The greens keeper replied, "Oh, yes. That's a group of blind fire fighters. They lost their sight saving our clubhouse from a fire last year, so we always let them play for free anytime."
The group fell silent for a moment.
The priest said, 'That's so sad. I think I will say a special prayer for them tonight."
The doctor said, "Good idea. I'm going to contact my ophthalmologist colleague and see if there's anything he can do for them."
The engineer said, "Why can't they play at night?"

--------------------- -------------
Understanding Engineers- Lesson Four

What is the difference between mechanical engineers and civil engineers?
Mechanical engineers build weapons and civilian engineers build targets.
-------------------------------------------------
Understanding Engineers- Lesson Five

The graduate with a science degree asks, "Why does it work?"
The graduate with an engineering degree asks, 'How does it work?"
The graduate with an accounting degree asks, "How much will it cost?"
The graduate with an arts degree asks, "Do you want fries with that?"
----------------------------------------------------
Understanding Engineers- Lesson Six

Four engineering students were gathered together discussing possible designer of the human body.
One said, "It was a mechanical engineer, just look at all the joints."
Another said, "No, it was an electrical engineer. The nervous system has many thousands of electrical connections."
The third said, "It was obviously a chemical engineer, just think about all the reactions taking place each second in the body."
The last one said, "You're all wrong, it had to have been a civil engineer. Who else would run a toxic waste pipeline through a recreational area?"
--------------------------------------------------------
Understanding Engineers- Lesson Seven

Normal people believe that if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Engineers believe that if it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet.

If my body were a car !!! Funny C&P Enjoy Nov 4, 2007 2:14 pm

If My Body Were A Car

If my body were a car, this is the time I would be thinking about trading it in for a newer model.
I've got bumps and dents and scratches in my finish and my paint job is getting a little dull.
But that's not the worst of it!

My headlights are out of focus and it's especially hard to see things up close.

My traction is not as graceful as it once was. I slip and slide and skid and bump into things even in the best of weather.

My whitewalls are stained with varicose veins.

It takes me hours to reach my maximum speed. My fuel rate burns inefficiently.

But here's the worst of it . . . . .

Almost every time I sneeze, cough or sputter . . . either my radiator leaks or my exhaust backfires!
