The debate over the electoral college is as old as the constitution and has been ongoing ever since......

The Electoral College was invented at a time when candidates traveled around and gave speeches in person. Because mass communication was so limited the founding fathers in their wisdom thought it might be possible for a corrupt self serving liar ... or a group of corrupt self serving liars to hijack the US Presidency and legislate for personal gain. The Electoral College could also function to block a candidate who is someone not in keeping with United States values etc .. If the Electoral College was working Trump wouldn't be President

Hiramhankwilliam, you're the textbook example of why the Electoral College was invented. The Electoral College gave Trump the election ... they weren't obligated to. Trump voters got fooled into thinking that extorting money from Mexico to pay for our crap is consistent with AMERICAN VALUES. Trump voters got fooled again when they thought they were voting for a racist/bigot and got a grifter. Good job

women and people of color?! Really! That is all that matters? Weighed voting is the only realistic way to vote for anything of importance.

Yes, do away with EC. The Electoral College system can result in the election of a "minority" president who has received fewer popular votes but more electoral college votes. The Electoral College system has in the past led to the election of three "minority" presidents, namely, National Republican John Quincy Adams in 1824, Republican Rutherford B. Hayes in 1876, and Republican Benjamin Harrison in 1888.

Whether someone agree with electoral college or doesn't... is not the issue....The founding father developed a Constitution, about protections. about balance.. It's about rights, and Checks and Balances..It's about the design of a House of Representatives and a Senate....To balance democracy as to population and the value of State rights. And about a Supreme court.. That MUST be balanced to work.. Believe me, just like anything else in this country...we tend to blame abuses on the system... The system is fine...but we do need to correct the abuses. "The Founding Fathers did not trust direct democracy, and neither should you" That's a bunch of crap....the founding father trusted Democracy just fine.. what they didn't trust was History and People.. that would use and abuse our Democracy.. The founding father dealt with history.. They dismissed the idea of a Monarch..they viewed other great societies.. The Romans and the Greeks.. the Romans developed The idea of a senate and representation. The Greek the idea of States, and unification... But the rub was... they failed....Our Founding Fathers. in developing our democracy.. was an attempt at preventing the Roman and Greek failures. To put in plain English.. the founding fathers didn't Trust YOU. AS they didn't trust the Romans and Greeks that destroyed their own society.

The Electoral College gives smaller states a voice and avoids the scenerio of mob rule.
