Having seen the memorial several years ago, my gal friend and I had many thoughts going through our minds. She had been there a few times but it was my first and probably only trip there.

One thing I will always remember is the launch out to the memorial, people chatting. On the way back there was total silence on the launch.

There was an article recently in the Macon (GA) Telegraph about the 5 survivors of the attack.

Tom, thanks for this historical blog. I wasn't aware if it, maybe my grands were but am pleased to read it now. It's really sad, seeing those above pics, one can ponder on how much those soldiers had suffered, died and for those alive, it's really a very sad and haunting memory. Good informative blog.

I heard one of the survivors saying that he didn't like to talk about that day, because when he does, then he can't sleep. Many veterans are quiet about their war years, and I understand.
God bless our service men and women...... past, present, and future.
