The River Swan.

The River Swan.

No more sweetness has a river’s sway
Than the drift of a soft currents’ time
A meandering sigh of dear nature’s play
Held in respect by banks of easy climb

And here, within this stroll of elegance
Which draws loves’ eye to a rosy scene
A heart is swollen to gentle romance
Beholding joy’s look of a river queen

Her easy glide is serenity’s regal pose
This lady, who sweetens water’s grace
In her white glory of all feather’s glow
All reflected within a river’s embrace

No heart might harden at this sight
Or a tear be retained within a soft eye
What smile is delayed from all delight
When this majestic queen sails by

She drifts her wake to an endless dream
And sad is knowledge if she is gone
No whiter moon has more softer gleam
This beauteous bird, the River Swan
