Avarice.

Avarice.

Would a forest cry out for nourished seed
That it outgrows its established station
Or the rich man, who in a constant greed
Will refuse to buy, to choose starvation

What point, that coin is to a hunger’s sate
That avarice is to an advantage
Finance, a security to palate
Which is to the gullet a greed’s blockage

What hungry wind is to a calming state
Or the lone wolf who refuses to share
A locked heart is to the world, demonstrate
That a selfish is to the self unfair

Those of us in wisdom and in the know
Tell, you can’t take it with you when you go.

Somewhere I read that Avarice is a fancy word for greed.
Some call it as one of "the seven deadly sins.”
Thanks for this wonderful poem that would remind the greedy people that they could take nothing with them when they would finally leave for unknowns never to return back.
Best wishes.

Indeed, my friend, Avarice is just another word for 'Greed' but we poets love to use words which confuse the mind...lol. I did write a poem for each of the 7 'Deadly Sins', of which Avarice is one. I, personally, have never wanted more than what I need and so have never needed anything other than my own sense of 'Personal Power', belief in my self. After all, any form of psychological 'Need' stems from a lack of personal power and so with greed, the desire to own gives confidence in having more than the next.
My thanks for your comment, Sir.

Sad really, is not avarice/greed a disorder or disease of the soul?

Ah, Lilium (Have I got that right? And what does the name imply?) Sorry about that, my natural curiosity allows me to ask questions of you. A disorder of the soul? Now that is a philosophical question, indeed; for it then begs the question as to what is the 'Soul'?
We poets know the 'Soul' as the 'Well of Emotive Source', that shady place which 'Wells' up such feelings as instinctively drive us and act upon. So, in this case, yes... Greed can be a disorder of the Soul, in that it is a malfunction, a disorder of an emotive spirit which then gluts the nature...
Hey, my Ozzie friend! How on earth did we get onto this? You ask one simple question and I lapse into a whole disconcerting argument...lol.
Have a lovely day/afternoon/evening!
