During the War of 1812 - The British recruited slaves including those belonging to Francis Scott Key to serve in the military with the promise of freedom after their service. The war ended - The United States demanded the return of their "property" - Great Britain refused. The slaves went to Canada and some actually returned to Africa.

There are words in the song that indicate that these slaves are not saved from the terror of flight or gloom of the grave.

Why would you expect any descendant of a slave to stand to a song with those words.?

There is a incident in the book "Hidden Figures" where Mary Jackson refused to let the children's choir sin "Pick a Bale of Cotton," a happy tune about slave.

Simple actions can be used in the fight for dignity, pride and progress.

Agree or disagree, people have a constitutional right to not stand during the National ANTHEM or place their hand over their hearts and recite UNDER GOD in the Pledge of Allegiance.

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore,
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion
A home and a Country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash’d out their foul footstep’s pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and
slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave

I suspect that Kaepernick is like most who don't know the entire National ANTHEM nor the history behind some of the lyrics. He had his reasons for quietly kneeling instead of standing and is dealing with the consequences. I personally support his right to protest. There is a difference between the way Griffin and Kaepernick are dealing with the consequences.

Kaepernick created a foundation with the mission to combat all kinds of oppression globally through education and activism.

It is easy to conclude that most blacks are descendants of slaves - although some migrated in later eras from Africa but were still subjected to Jim Crow Laws and other discriminatory practices. There is a strong that Kaepernick descended from slaves and other blacks who had to face indignities because of their race.

Regardless, he as taken the situation into a positive direction.

Griffin on the other hand is screaming the Trump is a bully for calling her sick and Malania for questioning her mental health. She is calling in her lawyers because her actions had consequences. Dah!

Hank, I enjoyed this blog....... why? Because, until someone from another country interjected her venom, everyone was DISCUSSING the issue, without name calling or animosity towards each other. There were ADULTS in the room, having a discussion or debate, not an argument. EXCELLENT.

Be a prism, spreading God's light and love, not a mirror reflecting the world's hatred.
