When I'm gone

When I'm gone

I write, not for a joy’s high of favour
That adulation comes to me cheaply
Not for my own sweet comfort to savour
But for passion’s write imbed so deeply

If I write for applause then let’s assume
I ask for it to be a silent prize
Sooner it be inscribed upon my tomb
That I then rest in written advertise

What author, in his effort seeks such fame
To glut the self in gloss of glory’s prime
As for me, I would rather leave my name
And let the reader have choice of my time

When I am gone and weary bones in soothe
Then come all applause as writing’s approve

Well written Ron. How true it is. I often think that writing poetry is a good way to show your thoughts and feelings. You obviously have a talent for this. Have you ever heard of cowboy poetry? Years ago I was at a family reunion. The last night of the reunion we had a dinner and part of the evening entertainment a lady was invited to entertain us with cowboy poetry. Up until then I had never heard of it. Afterward I looked it up on the Internet and I was surprised how popular it was.

Than you for your nice comment. I must admit that I had never heard of Cowboy Poetry and did look it up on the net. I shall give it a try although I might have some trouble relating it to the place where I live, a real concrete jungle.
