CAN THERE BE TOO MANY CHOICES?

Have you ever been shopping for an item and instead of 1 or 2 choices, there seemed to be an endless amount to choose from? I discovered that years ago for a feminine item and it keeps happening to me and to those I know. About 15 years ago, when I needed a bed, I bought the same type that my family always bought. I knew the model's name and just asked for it, compared prices and bought it. It was nice and easy. Now there are literally 50 choices of that same model with names associated with each. I am not looking for a new bed but someone I know is and she has no idea which to buy. Can there be too many choices? Absolutely, in my opinion. I prefer the old days. What about you?

I agree. Having some choice is great, but these days, those choices can be so multiple. It can also be so confusing, that by the time I have studied several options, I forget what I wanted, why I wanted it, and just stay with what I have.
A bra is a simple sample. I found one I liked and I have worn the same brand and style for decades. Recently, they made some changes to it, and I don't like it so much, but I hate to think of even beginning to search for a new one.

My problem isn't with too many choices, it's when a company discontinues a product I really like and replaces it with something that is inferior and costs twice as much. I think we all miss the old days, but we can't go back.

Absolutely the case, Pat. They should at least stick to keeping the old models the same. I think manufacturers do that to try to force consumers to pay again for the new so-called-improved models. Thanks for your response.

Yes that happens often, and sadly, we can't go back. Thanks Rae. I wish they would just keep the old models as they were, as Pat wrote above.

Thanks for that quick course, Maisie. I actually know some of that since I have been looking for new plush linens. My birthday is coming up and I thought, hey why not? I wanted something nice and soft and found a 100% Egyptian Cotton made in India. It is important to know how many ply are used since the more ply the worse, not better, the sheets. 4 ply is worse than single thread. Single threads are longer. Of course it is subjective as to what a person wants. Percale is more durable.

As far as mattresses, it does work the same in Canada. You need to know what features you like and then find it at different stores under different names. It is ridiculous that they do that.

Anyone know anything about adjustable beds? Are they any good?

Thanks for all that great info, Maisie. I never heard the term Dual King here for adjustable beds. It might be that option isn't available in Canada. We use thread count too but it turns out that ply affects the thread count. Seems some companies beef up the thread count because they are using 2 ply or 4 ply threads and counting them as 2 or 4 threads.

I think I would feel sick paying anything close to $400 or more for sheets. The one I saw was on sale for $83 and I might stick to that. I will know after I go shopping this weekend. Thanks again. I appreciate all your advice.

After reading your comment, the only thing surprising was that there were merely 17 choices of jeans. Thanks Listz.

Oh sorry, I misunderstood. There are sheets in Canada that do cost $400 so I thought that's what you meant. I was considering the sheets at BB&B but I was reading some reviews from those that said their sheets tore. That surprised me especially since quite a few people said the same thing. By the weekend, I will get my sheets. Thanks for your great input, Maisie.

I have hit a new problem in a search of a 100% Egyptian Cotton sheet set. I purchased 2 sets and was going to decide which to keep. I then found out that due to my mattress being older and not as high, it is about 10" with the mattress pad, the new 18" pockets might make the sheets not stay put. Things used to be so easy.
