WHERE AND WHAT WAS THE BEST FOOD YOU EVER ATE?

There are TV shows about the best food that famous chefs have eaten. Their palates are more sophisticated than most of ours. I'd like to know where you had the best food of your life and what was it that you ate.

There is a restaurant in Toronto called Lee. It is owned by Susur Lee. He is a world renowned chef and his food is very unique. The flavors are incomparable. His signature Singapore Slaw and other dishes like his Top Chef prize dish of green curry chicken (I don't even usually like curry) is great. The striploin steak Korean style is also wonderful. Even the crème brule dessert is fantastic. Don't go there expecting to get to meet him though. He isn't the friendliest guy. He wouldn't even come over to our table, despite the fact we've been there often enough to be recognized by the waiters.

I will say that in Europe, our favorite restaurant was in Paris. Le Grand Colbert was magnifique. Inside the restaurant, there was a scene shot for the movie "Something's Gotta Give"; which starred Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson. The food and the atmosphere were both excellent and very Parisien. Ok it's YOUR turn.

You've done the same to me, Pat. Only you could buy that delicious sounding food and I can't. Thanks for sharing all that. I never heard of she crab soup before. I'm going to google that.

We have so many wonderful restaurants here in Vancouver. I got to watch Rob Feenie who is an Iron Chef winner on food network back in 2005. He appeared on the celebrity stage at Eat Vancouver. He is well known around Vancouver and owned a couple of restaurants a number of years ago. I had great food in Mississippi when I visited there a number of years ago. We had a shrimp feed the last time I was there. The shrimp was fresh off the boat from the Gulf. I had never had shrimp as fresh as that and in that abundance. Another time I was there when crayfish were in season. They boiled in big pots with all kinds of spices, corn and potatoes. The catfish was also great. Catfish all you could eat was at some little funky place off the beaten track. Those are the kind of things that make for great memories.

Hi Elaine; I've seen Chef Lee on t.v. many times and his restaurant looks beautiful. Years ago someone took me to dinner at a Caribbean restaurant in Toronto and ordered curried goat for me to try. The restaurant itself didn't stay open too long, but it was the first time I ever tasted Caribbean curry goat, and I just loved it. I've been on a mission for years to find curry that tastes like that, but all I can find here is Chinese curry, Thai curry, Indian curry. I like them all but none compares to that Caribbean curry.

Tokyo Kaikan, Little Tokyo, Los Angeles. Combination sushi bar and tempura kettle. One of the places that claims the invention of the California Roll.

Dunno about the Roll, but their sushi was superb, the tempura amazing and, if you bought the tempura-vat-master Morisawa-san a beer every so often, you were sure to get extra prawns......

But what really made it stand out was the first time I ordered a drink outside the house. It was rum-and-coke. I was 12 or 13.

Loved that place.

Hopefully with the internet, you'll be able to find curried goat yet again. I wish I could help you but I never ate that. Thanks for your comment, bijou.

Sounds like a place I'd want to try if I was in LA again. I enjoy Japanese food including a California roll. Thanks for sharing that, Unsafe_Sax_54. Welcome to my blog.

That sounds absolutely wonderful, Lulu. It's the entire experience not just the food. Thanks so much for sharing. I have the image in my head, based on how well you described it.

You do seem to like a wide range of foods. You're also adventurous in your eating habits. Thanks for your comment, Bill.
