WHAT DO YOU THINK OF MAIL-ORDER BRIDES? I was just reading how big the mail-order brides business really is. This is a paragraph from an article on the subject: 'The advent of globalization and the ubiquity of online dating has set the stage for new-age mail-order bride companies to gain unprecedented popularity. According to market research firm Experian Marketing Services, the top 10 premium international dating sites drew 12.2 million visits in March. That’s a 29% uptick from March of last year — a huge increase compared to the rest of the relatively stagnant online dating industry. In March, AnastasiaDate was the 29th most popular online dating service period, in a category of 1,400 sites. And the company believes there’s room for expansion. “I think there’s a lot of pent-up demand,” says Chief Strategy Officer Mark Brooks. “People are realizing that there’s a bigger world than Match.com'. What do you think of mail-order brides? Is that a good way to find a wife? Why aren't there mail-order grooms? Perhaps I should start that. Elaine Shuel |

I might go for it if there was a money back guarantee.

I only know of 2 personally. It's hardly a good sample for statistical purposes but in both of those cases what you said is true. I'd love to hear of some that worked out over the long haul for comparison. Spiritwoman ^i^

That could be. Though I would think that some couples work out or this sites would be closed down. Elaine Shuel

I thought that too but the fact they're doing so well, I'm not so sure. Elaine Shuel

Thanks for your comment, Lyn. Is that story fiction or as the title suggests, reality? I wouldn't think many people these days would be involved in such a thing as mail-order brides but I'd be wrong. It seems to be quite popular. Elaine Shuel

I knew a man who had a purchased a wife, he lost her, he lost his house and had to pay her enough money to live the lifestyle he had given to her. I met her, she wasn't a very nice woman, very demanding and she was so hateful to him. I felt so bad for him, but it was his choice to do what he did, and his mistake cost him!

I know of n older man who met his wife in one of the Asian countries and she was from China originally. He paid for all the legal to get her Canadian status. She decided to go back to school and he paid for that too. They got married somewhere along the way. He was older than dirt and she was a sweet young thing. Needless to say her English improved and she found her way around and they eventually split. I think he knew it wouldn't last. I thought it was funny when he was always complaining about his back and he would say to me that he was married to a much younger woman. Funny story but think he had to pay her money when they split up. But to him it was worth it as they were happy for a very short time.

Hi Elaine: I worked in Law and once I went through all my pending divorce files to check their progress, and discovered that every single one of the wives was from the Philippines, and of course all had been foreign brides. Once the wives receive their immigration papers, they can file for divorce and claim half of everything and also get financial support forever, because the husband is no longer needed after they get their immigration status. To sponsor a foreign bride the husbands had to sign a financial support agreement and they are financially obligated to support their bride as long as she decides to stay in Canada. SFF must know all about this heartless scam because they have blocked every single person from the Philippines from joining SFF or even logging into this group.

I would guess there is money changing hands at one point, with mail-order brides. First they correspond online or web and the guy pays. If he brings her to his country, he pays a whole lot more. Thanks for your comment, Pat. Elaine Shuel

I would say desperate more than misfit, to pay for a mail-order bride. Meeting someone online is not being a misfit, in my opinion. What I found most interesting about your comment, Lyn, is that the horror story is usually the woman has the guy killed or takes him for all his money. I never heard of the reverse. Thanks for enlightening me. Elaine Shuel

Your brain is sharp as ever, Dianne. Thanks for contributing to this post. I do believe in the short run, both get what they want. In the long run, it's mostly the woman that ends up with benefits. Elaine Shuel

It's definitely interesting that men would take a chance on a woman from another country that he doesn't really know. The women come to the USA or Canada to start a new life or for financial gain. The problem is, it's a gamble as to which one and differs from woman to woman. Thanks for your comment, Lulu. Elaine Shuel
