Are you adventurous?

I have to admit it, I'm a chicken. Perhaps it's true that you are what you eat. I eat a ton of chicken. I forced myself last May to do things that scare me, as most of you know. I took my trip to Europe which included 3 planes (flying scares me to death), a 12 night cruise (we were in the middle of nowhere most of the time), motor launches and even took a gondola ride (scary to get on and off) . I'm thrilled I went and I've posted countless pictures (yes, there are more to come , for those who hoped I was finally done - sorry). The point is that despite not being adventurous by nature, I think I was a bit adventurous during this trip.

Are you adventurous? What's the most adventurous thing you ever did? Has age made you less adventurous?

One last thing, for those that feel getting older is a reason not to be adventurous, Georgina Harwood celebrated her 100th birthday by jumping out of an airplane. I have to say that's one brave lady. I'm impressed.

It's hard to say. Bing ADD adventures come naturally. I ran off with a truck driver and a a few weeks drove an 18 wheeler from phoenix to LA my first time behind the wheel. I traveled to another country to meet someone I met on line. I co-drove a dune buggy in the Baja 10000. On a whim I tossed everything I owned in my car and took off to Canada for 3 years. I got my first tattoo for my 65th birthday. The first gun I shot was a 42 gauge double barrel shot gun with one hell of a kick. Lots more but those are what comes to mind at the moment. Oh, almost forgot the most challenging - I got married twice.

You sure have taken many risks in your life, that's for sure, Spirit. Thanks for sharing that.

Hi Elaine: You sure had a lot of courage to take your European trip. I'm not the adventurous type at all and like routine in my life. One thing I did that required a lot of nerve was when my dance partner and I accepted an offer to dance the Cha Cha for a lot of money in front of a huge crowd of people at a banquet. We accepted $300.00 for doing a three minute dance plus we got two free $100.00 tickets. I arrived first and to my horror my partner didn't show up, so the organizers told me they had seen me dance before and asked if I would go up there alone. OMG how do you do a Cha Cha without a partner, but somehow I got up on the floor all by myself and danced for three minutes which felt more like an hour.

Now that takes guts, bijou. Good for you. What a nasty thing that guy did, not showing up. You should have received his share of the money. Thanks for your response.

That's a pretty good question and I'm not sure how to answer really....but the first two things that pop into my mind was building a cabin in the tundra on an Alaskan Aleutian island. That was a great year of my life where eagles seemed to keep me company everywhere I went...truly a great experience...as far away from society as I could get and exactly where I needed to be at the same time. I could not have imagined how that experience would transform my life.

The second thing was learning how to fly a plane. It wasn't very hard actually and once I flew solo and a few solo hours after that the challenge just faded away...I gave it up after about 25 hours of flight time. The learning was fun the doing was boring.

Standing on the Continental Divide at over 14,000 feet was a huge thrill...I did it the hard way with a friend but I don't know if anything I ever did gave me such a feeling of accomplishment.

Your question made me think of many things I've experienced in my life...I've been fortunate.
You're obviously very adventurous, Leaf. Great!!! Flying a plane as a hobby could be dangerous. JFK Jr and actually a friend of mine that died flying his own plane, both come to mind. My boyfriend had a pilot's license at one point. He gave it all up when his family needed him. That was long before I met him. He said it's dangerous to fly a plane as a hobby. There isn't the technical expertise that is learned by those going the professional route. Also, they don't fly enough to be able to cope with problems that could arise.

Thanks for your comment. I'm glad my post brought back such great memories for you.

I think that I'm only moderately adventurous.

I will not do anything physically dangerous. I do like to try other new things though.

It's good to be opened to trying new things, Rocket. Thanks for your comment.
