Welcome to my blog, parchan50. Yes, I've heard the oil refinery version too. I'm glad that I didn't make an error about thinking it was a scam. Thanks for writing.

Hi Elaine: They all must have gone to the exact same scammer school, but that scammer must have flunked out as he forgot to put in his e-mail address. Every message I get the scammer says something about 'god' or uses the word 'angel' when referring to me, and they usually say they're a widower and a 'contractor' working in some foreign country. They all have a child or two who needs a mother just like me.

Life is full of actual sad stories, unfortunately this guy (or gal) isn't one of them.

Sad to say, some lonely gal may fall for it.

If these scammers didn't suck in some victims, they wouldn't keep trolling.

Some gals and guys have lost thousands to these crooks.

It would be funny if is wasn't sooooo sad

I got the same kind of message a few months ago from a guy saying he was military in Afghanistan. Too young for me in any case but it was hard to take seriously.

Nah, he passed scammer school, bijou. He gave me his e-mail address and wanted my phone number. I told him to write me instead and the message I copied and pasted was his e-mailed reply.

Yes Ann, these scammers look for what they assume are lonely women. I know someone who was taken big time by a female scammer. That is, if she was a she. He never spoke to her or saw her but he got taken. I warned him but he didn't listen. It's sad.

Thanks Maura. I thought perhaps I was misjudging the e-mail. It's just that it was so similiar to others I've received. Glad my red flag radar was right.

You would think they wouldn't contact a Mrs., but nobody said scammers are bright. I never checked if they are paid members. Thanks for answering, Pat.

I didn't pay that much attention to the Libya part, Maisie. My thought is that they say the military to trust them. That's my theory anyhow. When I was looking for a mate versus a phone friend, I stayed away from anyone that wasn't Canadian, for the most part. There have been stories about people being used to get a green card. Thanks for responding to this post.

Thanks Archer62 and welcome to my blog. Yes, that military angle again. Do they really think that's all it takes to trust them?

Elaine I receive these messages on a regular basis. I was in contact with this guy who claimed he was in Missouri or some place like that. At first I thought he was legit but as time went on things became more distorted. The kicker on this one as he went off to South Africa for something to do with orphanages. One day I get a message from his saying he had lost all of his money and his passport. I was pretty sure he wasn't who he said he was. The gist of his message was he needed money. I wrote him back and said I do not know you and we haven't met. Why would I even consider loaning you money based n that. I asked his if he would do the same for me and he said he would. I ended all correspondence with him right there as he was nothing but a scammer. Like Bijou mentioned their grammar is atrocious and they are always widowed with young kids. Your message takes the cake Elaine. Imagine that being in Libya and having time to be a scammer. There have been enough blogs wrote about this and I think most of us are pretty much aware of these people and what they are up to. It is strictly a money making thing and we should all be made aware of this. I was watching Dr. Phil one day and he had a guy on his show who got caught up in it. He actually sent $15,000 to some woman as he truly believed they were in love with each other. It made me sick to think that he got caught up in it not knowing what he was getting into.

What happened on Dr. Phil, happened to that guy I knew. I don't know the exact amount he got taken but he admitted it was over $5,000. He had to borrow to get the money. He THOUGHT they were in love and getting married. He never spoke to the person except through chatting. It is very sad.

I wasn't sure if I was being paranoid about the military with kids and a dead wife. I thought it was a scam but I wanted to hear what others thought. Thanks for your comment, Shartaun03.

95% of the emails I get on this site are from scammers. Although I haven't had any army ones for a while
The scammers usually have their accounts deactivated within 48 hrs but many pop up again using different handles, sometimes with the same name but different numbers.
so many profiles showing on my home page as matches are fakes.......their photos show up on scammer sites.

Prachan > Most of them told me they were now working in Malaysia doing some projects like oil refinery, purchasing antiques, building shopping malls, etc.

I've heard quite a few cases now where the scammers say they are working in Malaysia. It could be true as there are a lot of foreigners here doing 'dodgey' scams!!

Welcome to my blog, whiterose06. Last I checked, his account wasn't deactivated. Does it mean that he was legit?
