Are you a day person or a night owl?

When I worked outside the home, I went to bed at 11 pm usually and got up at 6:30 am, if I recall. My hours now are wacky. I go to bed usually 4 am or so but trying to get back to 2 am, which is late enough. It's about 3 am now so clearly I'm failing. Some days I can sleep in, other days not as much.

Are you a day person or a night owl and has it changed since you retired, for those that have retired? Has it affected any of your relationships? For example if you are a day person but your hubby is a night owl, did it cause trouble in your marriage?

Thanks for your reply, Lucas. My understanding is that one should sleep 6 - 9 hours a day. I sleep that amount usually, it just may start at 4 am or 5 am.

Night owl here.........the time slot between 9 pm and 3 am goes way too fast for me.........No wonder it was so hard for me to get up at 6 every morning to get my family and myself out the door in the morning.........since I retired, my bed time has been creeping later and later. I love being awake when the whole world is sleeping. I live on a road with no streetlights and there is virtually no traffic after midnight........I go for walks in the dark and come home so full of energy and write or paint or organize my stuff for my next class........I have my best ideas at that time.......I don't let it go too far though, I don't want to get too out-of-sync with the rest of the world......I still have some committments
I feel the same as you, Lulu. I love the silence when everyone is sleeping. I think better that way.

I've always been an early riser.

I think that is because my Mother always had us up early. Saturday was the only day we were allowed to sleep in....until 8:00....LOLOL. Of course the other days were school and church.

Night owl-- bed around 8-- sleep 4-5 hours then up to pray -- Worship -- computer -- back to sleep 3:30 until 6:30 am-7am-- my client is in bed 8 pm- 8 am-- oh dang funny -- I don't worship my computer haha
Wow, getting to sleep at 8 pm would be very hard for me. It seems to be working for you, sleeping then up then sleeping again, Diane. For me, I wouldn't be able to get back to sleep. It's good your body can do that.

If 8 am was considered my sleeping late time, I would be in deep trouble. I'd be writing my blogs in my sleep. Is there such a thing as blogging in your sleep? lol Thanks Rocket.

It's good that you and Joe have similar sleeping habits, Pat. Thanks for your comment. I can see why changing from day shifts to night ones could pose a problem or vice versa. Our body gets used to being awake a certain time and sleeping other times. It's difficult to adjust to changes.

I'm not surprised that you nod off often, Bill. I'd be dead on my feet all day. Thanks for your comment.

I am a night owl. Like you I am up quite late some nights. Since I retired it is even more so. I will be in bed earlier tonight as I have an appointment tomorrow at 10:30. When I go to bed late then I sleep in till 10 o'clock and then my day is almost half done.

That's better than me, Shartaun03. I sometimes go to bed 5 am or past and sleep to noon. That's one of the advantages of working from home. I make my own hours. Yes, when I have an appointment the next day, I go to bed earlier and get up earlier. Thanks for your reply and have a great week!!!
