 Same thing for us Italians. Our celebration of Shadowfest comes from pre-christian pagan times. The practices and intent are the same only we include remembrance of deceased relatives and friends, The belief includes that the veil between the physical and spiritual is thinnest at this time of year so our departed loved ones can communicate with us easier than at other times.

 How interesting Halloween symbolises the boundary between the living and the dead and the veil between the physical and spiritual thinnest this time of year hence opportune time to best communicate with the spirits/dead.
