Classic Television

After the wife and I got back from a early anniversary lunch at Texas Roadhouse, where the pork chop was excellent. We turned on the TV and searched for something to watch(take a nap) and we found a rerun of The Andy Griffith Show and I discovered it was one I don't remember ever seeing. Aunt Bee was down in the dumps as a woman her age had just passed away. On her way home she was taken to see some person by Opie. Well the person was selling some kind of Indian tonic and elixir that was supposed to put a spring in your step. She bought two bottles. Well it was 85% alcohol after she drank half of one of the bottles she was playing the piano and singing. Andy and Barney came in on her and they both said the same thing that if they didn't know better they would say she was "pickled". Barney took the half bottle and had it checked out. Leaving the other bottle where she had placed them. After finding out the alcohol content they went over to find Aunt Bee and the women's church league all at Andy's house and as Andy said "Gassed", He took them all to the jail where he sobered them all up, while Barney went and arrested the man who sold her the "tonic." I was lmao all the way through the show. Why can't we have TV like that anymore? It was in my opinion CLASSIC TV.

I rarely watch tv but yesterday I was bored with the computer, didn't feel like reading, so turned the tv on. Was scanning and saw the movie...Coming to America. I had not seen it in years. I sat there and watched it and enjoyed it as much as I ever did.

Hi Horse: I don't remember that episode either, but it sounds great. I remember reading a story in Whatever Happened To about Aunt Bea's real life, but can't remember any of it now. I miss all the old t.v. shows and don't get any of them anymore. I bought a DVD of one season of the Golden Girls and that show was great. I also liked Dick Van Dyke Show, That Girl, Mary Tyler Moore, I Love Lucy. Happy Anniversary and many more.

I don't find classic TV all that enthralling with few exceptions, but today's mainstream TV shows are no better.

The stuff on some of the cable channels, The Wire, Breaking Bad, appeals to me far more.

The prob back in Ye Goode Olde Dayes was that censorship frequently prevented realistic portrayal of life.

E.G. Father Knows Best

Did anyone ever encounter such a perfect family?
