dilemma - Molly and me..

Since I'm retired and live alone. my Chihuahua Molly is with me almost all day every day (and night). She watches my every move and follows me around the house keeping track of me. She was abandoned and I adopted her from a shelter. Even though I've had her over two years now I think she's still afraid of being abandoned again. When I do have to leave her for a few hours she gives me that sad look as I leave and then greets me when I return as if I'd been gone for days. My problem is I want to take a few small overnight trips this summer maybe some for several days. There are plenty of people here who board dogs and I have left her before for two nights.. I was pretty sure she's would have separation anxiety problems and she did. The woman I boarded her with said she wouldn't eat anything and was obviously upset. When I picked her up, she was REALLY glad to be back but she seemed exhausted.
I feel bad leaving her but I don't want to stop going places or doing things. Have any of you lovers had a similar problem with a that has separation anxiety problems when you've left him/her for several days. Any suggestions? I'm hoping that if she stays with someone else
for a while she'll eventually get used to it. The women I boarded her with loves animals and even let her sleep on her bed, so that's not a problem, I have complete faith in her, but worry about Molly's reactions
.

As June suggested both my sister and I used to leave an article of our clothing with the dog. I also found that having some come in to take care of them at home was much easier for them. When I had multiple dogs and cats I actually had someone come and stay with them.
