In defence of Chihuahuas

This is the first time I've blogged, here or anywhere so please bear with me if I screw up. I have a small rant before I really start. When I look for profiles of people near me about 3/4 of them haven't been on line here for over 3 months, and most of them don't have pictures. And even though I list the distance I'm willing to travel I get profiles of people 300 to 400 miles away. Although they're in California as I am, I don't think I'll be driving 300 miles for a cup of coffee. Anyway that said I'll keep trying.
This blog site seems to be about anything from peoples personal lives, to news articles, politics, poetry, scenery, etc. My subject may seem mundane but I think someone has to stand up for the Chihuahua. Because they're so small some people don't consider them as "real" dogs, and tend to make jokes and snide comments about them. As an owner it doesn't bother me but they don't know what they're missing. I'll admit that before I got my Chihuahua "Molly", that breed was one of my least favorite of all dogs. Always loved big dogs. Then one Saturday a friend talked me into volunteering at a adoption day at a local shelter. I was there to help sell raffle tickets and set up booths. Other volunteers were walking dogs that were up for adoption and there was one little Chihuahua that seemed really shy and frightened. She'd been a stray and had been abused. The woman who was walking her kept bringing her over to me and setting her on my lap.
While she was on my lap she calmed down and let me pet her. (The dog) I really didn't to come home with a but I knew that the dogs not adopted that day were due to be euthanized within a week since they'd been at the shelter for a long time, and new dogs were brought there regularly. Anyway old soft hearted Tom came home with a and I've never regretted it. I've had several dogs during my life and Molly's one of the most fun dogs I've ever had. She's playful, she's smart, she's cute and best of all she makes me laugh a lot with her antics.
I've had her for 4 years now and she's long outgrown her shyness and fear of people. I should mention that she's a Chihuahua mix and I have no idea what the mix is but she's a bit bigger than most Chihuahuas and she can run like a Greyhound. I live alone except for Molly and she's made my life a lot richer having her around.

Hi Tom: I always go for the shy and frightened looking type too. My last dog was a Papillon, which is basically a Chihuahua with really long fur and she had such a quiet and gentle nature. Nice blog and welcome.

P.S. The closest man who ever sent me a message was on another continent, and 99% of the men in my area are married or looking for casual sex.

Your a good man Tom. My family has had chihuahua's and chihuahua-X's for many years and love em to pieces. They think they are big dogs and we treat them as if they are big dogs.

Welcome to blogs. You will meet all kinds in here. I met Alfie (hawkslayer) in here in 2006. After meeting several times in person I moved from Indiana to Georgia to spend the rest of my life with him. It can happen!

My daughter has 3 Chihuahuas, her daughter has 1. Cute little dogs and easily spoiled rotten!

Looking forward to seeing more of you in here...
